“vegas”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

On the way from the airport to the hotel in Lara beach all I could think about was Las Vegas.A strip runs parallel to the beach and all the hotels(mainly 5 star all-inclusive) are on one side of the road and on the other side of the road are the apartment blocks where the staff from the hotels live. The hotels I'm sure are all superb once you get inside them but they are in worse and worse taste the further along the strip you go.With all the hotels being all-inclusive there are no bars and no restaurants outside the hotels.Nothing! Be prepared to go all-inclusive and basically stay in your hotel.

“Not really my type of thing”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

The beach here is okay. They say it's miles long but you will struggle to have a really nice walk along it as you will be interrupted by little pier-like constructions for all the hotels - we tried dipping under them in order to keep to the shoreline and I ended up banging my head really hard! There are also several rivers running into the sea which are too wide to be passable if you are just walking.

All there is here are 5-star hotels, many of the newer ones look like they have been based on a 5 year old's Disney fantasy. Tacky in the extreme. The only other features here are shopping malls catering solely for tourists.

The public transport links are poor. A public bus takes almost an hour to get you to the Old Town and harbour in Antalya. We were told that buses to Side involve changes and take about 3 hours. So getting out and about other than Antalya means paying for tours, taxis (not cheap in Turkey) or hiring a car.

If you want a holiday where you rarely need to leave the hotel and like talking to other tourists most of the time, then Lara beach is perfect for some affordable luxury pampering. In my opinion, they really know how to do all-inclusive well in Turkey. If you want to experience a foreign culture, soak up the local atmosphere with an evening stroll etc then go elsewhere. You can get more of a balance of all-inclusive luxury and somewhere with some atmosphere and transport links if you opt for Side.

“Not the best resort!”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Nice hotels in Lara but the resort is a bit of a dump! Be prepared to stay in the hotel if you book here, as there is nothing outside other than shops selling fake clothing. It's a shame, this was my first visit to Turkey and I'm sure there are some very nice resorts to visit, but this isn't one of them. The beach is filthy. Would not return even though the hotels are very nice, I like to get out and about but this isn't the place to do it!
