Owner description: The historical site of Perge, 18 kilometers east of Turkey, holds the vast remains of what was once the most propserous city of the ancient world. Enter by passing through the arch of the Roman Gate to be greeted by an amphitheater, the Hellenistic Gate (quite well preserved) and richly decorated remains of the city wall and much more.

Perge is very impressive little city located a few km from Antalya. It's very easy to get there by car ( but I am sure that also by buses) as it's just of the highway.
Impressive ruins where you can walk in the old street see the shops were in the Agora area and the big baths. They had 3 different sections for baths. Hot, freezing cold and normal. The heating system was built using columns underneath the baths. So clever and efficient.
All of the beautiful sculptures and artefacts are exhibited in Antalya's museum. It's worth seeing them both.
In a hot day, take with you a big bottle of cold water or buy one at the entrance, and wear good shoes.
The toilets are located outside the site in the parking place. They are pretty clean and tidy.

Another great place to wander & explore. Truly amazing place, the Romans & Greeks were so clever, just marvel at all that has been excavated. So many columns, walls, pillars, and still alot of work left to do. We enjoyed it so much.

What a fantastic location themthar Romans certainly knew how to build. A good guide is essential and ours(Erim) was definately worth his salt he painted a thorough picture of what it was all about.

I must agree with many other reviewers that this would be a better site if there was more information. However even without a guide this is a very impressive and very large collection of ruins, essentially an entire town, which was reportedly one of the most beautiful cities of the Hellenistic era ca. 300 BC, but was also occupied by the Romans and then by the Seljuq Turks until it was abandoned after ca. 1100 AD.
There is a large agora and stadium, Roman baths, and the impressive remains of the towers/gates from the Hellenistic times.
There is little shade anywhere, and when we visited in late June it was scorchingly hot (I think 42C that day), and so be prepared if you're visiting on a sunny summer day.

We enjoyed this site. In my opinion you really need a guide to explain what is here to get the best of this ruined city, otherwise you don't notice or understand the best bits.
