amazing and well preserved antique site, it takes you back to history. For those who studied history or theater history or archeology is a place to go.

e thought we were just going to the beach for a swim, but on the way came across the ancient site where St. Nicholas was born. It was amazing how as an individual you can wander freely around this huge city site and see the ruins at close hand. Not crowded- a truly amazing find.

Walking from the beach to Gelemis, I sat down in this unique place and tried to imagine, how it would be to set for this moment the time 2.000 years backwards...

What a stunning underrated set of ruins Patara is. Once a major port in the Lycian era, Alexander the Great used it as his stronghold. It is also the birth place of St Nicholas. The ruins are just behind the beach only a short walk and are made up of an amphitheatre, hospital, port, palace, temple to Apollo, baths, grain storage, very ancient lighthouse, agora, tombs and city walls. They really are beautifully intact ruins that a lot of visitors don't bother exploring but in my eyes are definitely worth the effort :)
