Swandor Topkapi Palace
Ranked #45 of 235 Hotels in Antalya
Reviewed July 15, 2011

I am currently sat out in the beautiful turkish sun writing this review! Sadly it is our last day here but it has been great . Plenty to do for everyone. The hotel is situated away from the city or other shops , but it there is no need to leave as plenty of entertainment, waterpark open for a few hours in morning and afternoon , a quiet pool and private beach. Food is always tasty and refilled.... Yes it can get very busy to get food from the buffet but you need to expect this when your visiting a resort of this sheer sIze , but saying this we never has a problem getting a table and if we went to one which was not clean or full of cutlery some one was soon on hand clearing and setting it for us . Rooms cleaned daily and fridge restocked ... You are not going to get you flawless 5* British room , but they are clean and tidy and have everything you need and are of a 4* standard just need a little smarting up . Well worth the money and will come back again . Worth booking the a la carte restaurants for 5 euros each , around 5 to choose from specialising In different things , and makes a nice change from buffet and the hustle and bustle . I think any of the negative reviews are being very fussy .. If the waiters are busy go up and get your self a drink ! That's what your suppose to do , there are a few waiters on hand clearing tables and will take orders for you to help out ( dont be afraid to give them a nice tip and ask for a drink they will keep coming back to take orders for your drinks if you appreciate them. ) hope this hel

Please dont listen to those bad reviews there all obviously very picky people! We got back yesterday and are already thinking about going back! Would say it was more 4 star than 5 and the rooms were not bad at all a little bit dated but we wernt complaining as we didnt spend alot of time in there. We found all the staff very friendly and polite yes at first it seemed like they favoured the russians but once you got talking to them and they realised you wer english they couldnt do enough for you! And was very good with the kids! Always busy serving or cleaning the hotel was spotless! The entertainment team were great and always trying to include you with activities. The pools and slides wer also good. The slides only open for four hours a day but that is long enough! And the beach and jetty were lovely but sand was hot! The food got a bit reoetitive after abit but we tried some of the a la carte and they wer so nice the waiters couldnt do enough for you and it was only 5euros each. Free for under 6. Plenty to do here didnt really need to spend any money we went out on a couple of days trips on a boat and to the big market and thats all we paid for. Also was my sons 5th birthday and we booked the turkish a lacarte wich was free and they brought him a birthday cake and sang happy birthday. The reception staff wer nice too. Yes the russians thought they owned the place and at teatime was sometimes like a cattle market and they would try and grab things from you or push in. But we just did the same to them and they soon got the picture. Overall we really loved it here and cant wait to go back in a few years! So give it a try and dont listen to these bad reviews!

This was our 2nd stay in the Topkapi Palace after having such an enjoyable stay last year. I would say overall this hotel is very good value for money. Not 5* in my opinion but i think the price we have paid on both occasions reflect that. Expect more of a 4* and i think you'll be happy, think 5* and you'll be dissapointed.
Dont be put off by the negative reviews, try it for yourself and im sure you'll have a lovley time.
I travelled with my husband & 2 children (2y & 6y).
What to expect:

Food - Breakfast served until 10.30am, Fruit, yogurt, pancakes with jam, chocolate etc..Omelette/fried/boiled eggs, breads/toast, Various Cereals, You will find sausage, beans, fried potatoes inside but they are more suited to the Russians and definantly not your heinz beans (they are the size of bullets).
Apple, Cherry, Orange, Peach juice from self service machine, Tea, Coffee or Hot Chocolate.

Lunch - Spag bol (no mince just a passata sauce), hot dog, hamburger, chips or cheese toastie's on offer in snack bar.
Cheese pita bread, Mince pitta bread, Rice on offer in Turkish restaurant at side of pool.
Soup, Bread, Chips, Spag bol, Green peppers,Tomatoes, usually a meat or fish option from outside buffet or some sort of meat in sauce option from inside buffet, Rice, Veg, Salad, Fruit, Cakes on offer in main restaurant, Open from 12.30-2.30pm.

Evening meal - Main buffet restaurant - Again an extensive selection of food available in main restaurant. Does become repetative if on a 2 week stay but show me a hotel that doesn't..
Expect to see various meats in sauce, normally a tomato type sauce or mushroom & onion with chicken etc...Expect to see the pasta bar every night, 3 different types of pasta with the optio of passata sauce and grated cheese, Rice, Chips, Peppers, Tomatoes, Grilled meat or fish from outside buffet, pitta bread, Soup, Bread, Salad bar, Fruit bar, Various cakes on offer - most look very pretty but taste of nothing to be honest.

Al a carte options for evening meals - Definantly worth a try, we enjoyed most - must be pre-booked at least 24 hours before.
Turkish - No extra charge.
Warm bread with a selection of dips to start,
Chicken on skewers served with rice, bread, pepper & tomato or some kind of lamb dish which i personally didnt try but looked very nice.
Rice pudding or a traditional turkish desert for sweet.
We ate her twice during our stay - very nice.
We made all our pre bookings with our holiday rep, nice & easy no problems.

Italian Restaurant
5 euro pp which you sign for at end of meal and will be put onto your room bill for you to pay before checkout.
Children 6 are free, they do not pay the 5 euro.
Chicken salad or octopus to start.
Pizza or pasta - these are small portions but nice to try.
Steak or grilled chicken - when i say steak i mean small thin steak served with 3 chips and a drizzle of sauce (do not expect a sirloin from your local steakhouse)
Tiramasu or some fruity combination for desert.
Nice to try but prefered the other restaurants.

International Restaurant
5 euro pp excluding kids under 6y.
Prawn cocktail, peppered turkey or a cheese option to start,
An option of a pasta dish next which consists of 3 different pasta's-very small portion's,
Grilled chicken or Steak - Steak here gorgeous - Thick & very tasty served with vegetables.
Chocolate fondue with a selection of fresh fruit.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here - ask to be seated inside as we made the mistake of being sat out and got bit to hell.

Mexican Restaurant which is next door in Kremlin Palace.
5 euro pp excluding kids under 6y.
Nachos and dips on table,
Spicy potato skins with cheese or spicy chicken wings (served cold) to start,
Chicken or beef fajita or burrito served with veg,
Ice cream in batter drizzed with chopped nuts and chocolate - very unusual but surpisingly nice.
We ate here twice during our stay. The waiters will come and place mexican hats and poncho's on you if you like so a nice photo opportunity ;-)

5 euro pp exc kids under 6y
Didn't personally try here as im not a lover of seafood ut my parents did and didn't enjoy.Basically if you like you fish served with eyes and tail etc you may want to try, if not, stay away.

5 euro pp exc kids under 6y
You will be seated to your table which has a bbq to the side. You will be brought a good selection of various meats inc Liver, Chicken, Beef, Sausage, Mushrooms, Peppers, Onions etc... all which you will bbq yourself. Warm bread & a selection of dips.
Your drinks & desert will be served to your table.

Midnight snacks
11.30pm-12.30am - Soup & Breadroll.

You will find stalls outside by the evening entertainment selling candy floss, popcorn, smoothies etc... these are extra as private stalls renting space from hotel but not over expensive - candy floss 5 lira, smoothies 10-15 lira.

This year they have also added an oxygen bar, a fish pedicure stall, small shop selling turkish sweets/small gifts, tattoo stall - my daughter had a small temporary tattoo-Tattoo costs from 25 lira up..

Rooms - Carpet quite grubby looking, large bed (king size & 2 single beds in our room.
Sufficient cupboard space (& we took alot of clothes!)
Ok bathroom - clean & respectable, powerfull shower.
Clean towels daily.
Room fridge restocked daily if required.

No need to take pool towels with you as you will be provided with a pool card in exchange for a pool towel, If you go to the beach and your towel gets sandy just exchange towel for new clean one - no problem.

Nice shaded play area for children, built on sand. Nice and cool, good place to escape and get them out of sun for a short while.

Amusement area - not included in AI - Need to exchange money for tokens for kids to ride on small cars, train rides etc..

Service for drinks in main restaurant is slow but if you dont want to wai just get up and go to bar yourself.
Im fussy when it comes to alcohol and learnt last year that you wont get malibu and the like there (i took some this year)
You can expect beer, vodka, gin, peach schnapps, some kind of cocktail - there is enough realy as long as your not fussy...dont expect pina colada's and the like like Tenerife! ;-)

Sunbeds are snapped up early but its the brits aswel as the Russians.

I'd say during out stay the hotel was filled approx with 45% brits, 55% Russians - believe me they are very rude and extremley greedy with food - especially cherries! You just have to let it go over your head, If you cant beat them, join them and be as rude to them as they are to you!!! ;-))) 2 can play that game! hehe..

Childrens pool very hectic as you can imagine - we tried to stay away
Main pool - Music played most of the day, entertainment team sing and dance at poolside, water polo and other games throughout the day etc....
Main pool but other side of bridge - Nice, quieter but can still hear music briefly, where you will find most of the brits.
Quiet pool - Near International Restaurant - Smaller pool with a small amount of sunbeds - very peacefull and away from it all.
Wavepool - Waves come on once a day, twice if your lucky. BE CAREFUL - blue floor around pool becomes very slippery, saw a goof few accidents inc heads beingcout open!
Slides open between 10am-12pm & 2pm-2pm daily.

Ice cream/ Coffee shop - Can be difficult to find but basically head for International restaurant/quiet pool and keep walking - you will find.
Ice cream served only between 3pm & 6pm.

Kids club - WORRYING....
If you leave your child here you must be mad! Club is run by local staff, none who speak very good English.
You sign your child in but they can leave whenever they like without an adult signing them out (literally just walk out by themselves! ???) BIG CONCERNS,Surely not? believe me, i tell no lies!
I was told just to let my kids know where i will be sat so they can come find me when they want to leave.... i dont think so!
My children are 2 and 6!! this is a HUGE complex, if they go wondering around here alone i dread to think what could happen. This is a huge problem and a serious concern, An accident or missing child waiting to happen!

Outside complex
There are some shops around but not walking distance, you will need to catch a taxi or bus.
Taxi to nearest shops will cost around 25 lira but will wait for up to 3 hours and bring you back for that price or Bus will cost you 1-2 lira each way, just jump on & off whenever you like.
Open air market on Saturday - a good 30mins drive away.
Marina - Again a good 30, maybe 40mins away but well worth a trip, realy pretty, lovley restaurants and a nice change - make your own way down on the bus from opposite the hotel - stay on until the bus driver tells you no more stops.
Dont expect to be able to walk outside hotel and find pubs, shops etc like you do in Spain, Canaries, other parts of Turkey - there is literally nothing around - this is a hotel based holiday.
Trips can be arranged with your rep also.

Nice beach, HOT sand - make sure the children have footwear on at all times down there - i saw a few running across sand screaming as sand literally burning their feet ;-(
Had no problems finding sunbeds down the beach at any time. We pulled our beds as close as possible to the shore and literaaly had the waves crash in against our feet! Bliss! :-)
Various watersports available, Jet skis, Canooing, Kayaking...we went parasailing, 2 adults together - cost us 150 lira.

Realy depends on what you like - there is plenty to do if you want to get involved during the day and evening.
Various shows in the ampitheatre - some good, some not so good, go and see them if you dont like - walk away - no problem.
Music & dancing most evenings - not to everyone's taste - ALOT of turkish dancing and music which is nice to see but not every night pls.. :~)

Overall you could go to this hotel with £50 in your pocket and not spend a penny if you didn't want to buy any extras. Food and drink is catered for all day & night long and with the large selection available there must be at least one meal you would like.
Well i hope you enjoy your holiday & you have gained a small, truthfull insight into what to expect.

We had a lovely room, king size bed in one room and two single beds in joining room for my 14 and 10 year old, it was cleaned everyday. pool was brilliant and slides. food was good apart from all the Russians putting far to much food on their plates and not eating it and pushing you out the way for it..staff were nice . lots to do no need to leave the resort . if you can do the market trip great. cant wait to go back next year hopefully.

If u are going listen to this reveiw and ignore the bad ones and bad points, i know those negitave reveiws get you worried and stressed. we went last year and i have been reading some reveiws and i think those who are complaining are those who are picky and expect being treated like royality ! we arrived and had a smooth check in, we went to rooms and there were more then expected for turkey. spacious and clean, sheets cleaned every day, towels changed and our fridge was filled every day of free beverages. we recieved a free 15 minute massage coupon with some lovely sweets in a tin, which makes a fantasic free soveneer. we also recieved a picture frame with a lovely hand made picture in, we got these in a lovely bag which makes another great soveneer. the spa treatments were lovely and reasonable prices. its for EVERYONE ! they is a quiet pool tucked away for those who like quiet, the main pool is packed but still lovely. couples, families, young and old people there is some thing for everyone to do. the beach is stoney but soo its only in sea, sand hot but lovely. the water sports are a must do, id recommend great marvel. its a fantastic activity to do ! you hold on a big doughnut and get pulled along hitting the waves by a boat. me, my boyfriend and my nana and granda went on, yer bit weird but just an example this hotel is perfect for every one. the food is repetetive but lovely ! GET THE PANCAKES WITH CHOCOLATE SAUCE YUMMY ! the cleaners were lovely and friendly, only the males as the woman hid their faces and were quiet. the hotel is well maintained and clean, every one always works hard considering the amount they get paid and the hours they work. the coctails are unbelieveable ! they are plenty of sunbeds even in august. they have their own peir with bean bags heheh, and which is lit up on the nyt and u can see the fish under neath it is very romantic. the sunbeads are comfy and free on beach. the hotel is very beautiful and well maintained. they area around is not very nice and dirty. as we pulled up i thought aww noo wat have we got out self into BUT walking in to hotel i was gob smacked. i thought it was amazing. THE RUSSIANS, keep away and they are the most horrible people and jst rude and think they are hard and always in gangs trying to make ppl feel small. and watch out for those fat russian woman, theyll take all the food ahah, they used to take loads and scrape in to their bag. greedy considering u can eat as much as u want. and dont be afraid to move those towels, because them russians will pinch towels and claim sunbeds all over for when the sun moves. and they are posers who think they are outa a magazine or sumthing sat on egdge posing. over all it is best holiday ! best hotel ! worth every penny. and u can wonder around the hotel next door as they is a gate out the way. u do not need to go outside hotel to access it is just beind some rooms. its a must do, and they do some better coctails ;) !

Room Tip: every room is good, all veiws are beautiful, all have lifts i think

We booked this family holiday and had great expectaions but when we arrived we were given crap rooms facing the hotel next door wouldnt of been so bad if we could see there pool area but we faced the back entrance where they kept there rubbish. we waited two days for a room change.
The rooms are ment to be cleaned every day and they were but so bad we did it our selves. The sfaff are very rude and customer service is very poor for a 5* hotel. we have traveled home 4 days early due to 1 of our party been sexually assulted by a member of staff. i would advise never go here it is by far the worst holiday experince any of us have had.

The 4 of us have just returned (kids 9 & 11). What a fantastic time we just had, reading reviews before we went we were a bit worried and yeah the rooms are a bit tierd...but how long are you really in them when you have so much else to do on this complex. We've done 1st chioce holiday villages for years now and this blew them out the water !!! The entertainment team work so hard on the shows and daytime activities as do all the staff. We found the food to be excellent lots of choice, highly recommend La nazir and la godola resturants (cover charge well worth it ) although if the kids had their way we would have main buffett every night..they loved the choice, drink was okay, we like the cocktails !! So much to keep the kids entertained flumes are gr8 especially the ones in the Kremlin (which is much quieter). The pavillions on the pier are well worth it for a special treat you get your own waiter all day who brings drinks food and trays of melon they evan brought us a bottle of champers for our anniversary. One thing that did confuse us was the currency basically anything goes, we stuck to lira and english notes but euro widley used. Thomas cook wanted £90 euro to take us to the market in side but Lara has a market on a saturday morning which they never mentioned and it worked out 14 lira there and back, lots goodies to haggle for !! The bazzars along the road sell thing like r4 cards with 300 ds games for £30. At the time we were there there was loads of guests from the UK and we felt in no way out numbered by russains as previously mentioned, the cheers at the ampitheatre at night confirmed this !!! Overall a fantastic 2 weeks would def consider going back !!
