Owner description: A historical site not to be missed. Just off Atatürk Boulevard you’ll see the impressive three double arches of the gates, which were erected in 130 to celebrate the visit of Emperor Hadrian. Legend has it that in ancient times, the queen of Sheba passed through the middle arch on her way to Aspensos and spent a happy night with King Salomon. With the exception of the columns, the arch is made from white marble and is richly decorated.

“Another great remnant of Hadrian”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

We walked to the gate from our B&B in the heart of Antalya's Old Town. The triple-arched gate was constructed to welcome the traveling Emperor Hadrian, who visited Antalya in the year 130 A.D. and it is in excellent condition again, having been later enclosed in city walls and only rediscovered when these collapsed. To either side were tall square towers built of stone, the one on the right dating also from that time. Nowadays the gate is one of three or four entrance gates from the busy streets of modern Antalya into the Kaleiçi Old Town and one of the city’s most visited sights. A couple from Colombia took our photo before it, and we heard an interesting collection of languages being spoken.

“Not to be Missed”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

Antalya"s downtown is worth a day of sightseeing. However, Hadrian's gate is a premier activity. The gate, its history and the fact that the multi-archeological periods remain are incredible.

“An Arch-eological marvel”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

I loved how the structure provided a bridge from the old town to the new city. The transition is not in your face, and there are always friendly people ready to take photographs of you at the gate with your camera. It calmly blends the quiet and tranquility of the old town with the hustle and bustle of the new city, making it a somewhat enchanted gateway between the past and the future. Ladies, if in heels, watch out for the glass bridge. It can get rather slippery.

Impressive Roman triple arch gate. You can still see the cartwheel ruts in the stone pavement. Visited Nov. 2007.
