Owner description: The old city of Antalya contains many of the city's historic sites. Renovations to the marina and waterfront have added several hotels, restaurants and shops, making this a popular tourist destination.

Picturesque area, peaceful, interesting local shops with a good variety. Mixed line of old buildings in original state and well renovated buildings made the town very special

There is so much to say about this area of town. But in short, it's BRILLIANT! Though small and away from the larger (grossly grandiose Hotels), if you manage to book a Hotel in the old town of KaleiCi you wont regret it.

The Good: The place is crawling with unique shops and Cafes, almost every corner hides something fantastic. It's safe and some parts are well preserved. The people are wonderfully friendly, because lets face it...over 50% of Antalya's economy is run by Tourism. Everything is situated within walking distance, and you can literally find everything you need in KaleiCi without even going to the Main Street. (Which is bustling with people at all times of the day!) It's very close to the shore and main Harbor, and perfect for a late Afternoon/Evening stroll.

The Bad: For this city I'll go through major/minor Nuances. For Seasoned Travelers, we are used to a certain level of "foreignness"...so this is really for Newbies that aren't used to a Society outside their Normal Level of comfort. First, although many buildings are being renovated, many have been left in ruins. To the average person, this could be considered and eyesore, since I am a photographer...I love it! Ruins and abandonment's add to the charm of a city/village for me. Secondly, this is Tourist Central!! So those sweet little shops are run by money hungry Locals that wont hesitate to jack-up the price of a coffee mug by 300% (This is not an exaggeration!) None of the Drinks will be free or cheap, so buy your own in Grocery Stores which are 20-50% lower. Of course this does not apply in Restaurants hehe. Third, the fumes from every wood burning stove from EVERY inhabitant cooking Dinner at the same time may be hazardous to those with sensitive Respiratory Systems. Finally, if you do book a Hotel/Room in the area, stay away from the Ground Floor. The constant pedestrian traffic make Privacy impossible, that and, the view for most 4th to top floor balconies are amazing!

Enjoy Antalya!

Spent 4 days in Kaleici over the new year holiday. Fabulous atmosphere and lots of friendly faces that complimented the ambience of New Years Eve. Fire works were spectacular at midnight and it was great to have the choice of dancing the night away or sit peacefully in a bar listening to a choice of music. Definitely a good place to be and certainly will be returning to such a unique place.

I loved pretty much all of it and the experience of the dining, stores, hotel, and streets. It is an old Ottoman city with many low cost hotels, good restaurants, ruins, close to the marina and sea.

We entered the old city via Hadrian's gate and wandered until finding the steps going down to the harbor. During the 20-30 minutes that we lingered here, it was fun to look in a few of the shops and observe the people, cars, and dogs & cats as they came and went. The narrow winding streets make for an interesting stroll. We could have spent more time exploring a larger swath of Kaleici if we had wanted to, but even for a quick look it is worth seeing.
