“Never see the film after you've read the book!”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

After staying last year at the Concorde the inevitable comparison was always going to happen.
Whilst anyone who stays here won't have a problem whatsoever I personally preffered the Concorde.
There were just a few things wrong with the Baia that a couple of tweeks won't cure, the first being the bar at the pool. The White Bar doesn't open until 12 each day so if you(and being summer you will!) want refreshments you have to go to the other side to do so. Now it's not a million miles away but if (like we were) your sunbeds were on the right hand side as you come out of the hotel then it was still a bit of a pain having to walk right the way round every time up to 12. Why can't they open the White Bar just for drinks before 12?
At 12 when the White Bar opens they make fish and chips which whilst looking the part doesn't really deliver on the cooking side as the fish we found undercooked a couple of times.
The second thing wrong (and other people have commented on this) is the complete lack of storage. The "wardrobe" does not have the space to hang half of the clothes we brought so they had to be left in the case. They could have easily added an extra wardrobe at the side. Then for some unknown reason the have a curtain to cover the wardrobe instead of doors! This is totally at odds with the reast of the room which was immaculate and modern.
There is a flat screen tv with a dvd player and a kettle with coffee and tea being replenished daily. Our room had a balcony at the front of the hotel which whilst not have a lot to look at was quiet. The beds were huge and very comfortable and the maid(thank you Ferida) cleaned the room to a very high standard each day.
Getting a sunbed wasn't a problem as I am up early anyway but I noticed that they were nearly all taken by about 7:30. But if you want to get a bed later then go down to the pier as these were never taken. The towel desk opens at 8am and shuts at 6:45 pm, just hand the amount of cards for the amount of towels and when you give the towels back you will receive the cards back for the next day(although some were handing the towels back, getting the cards and then asking for new towels in order to put down on the sunbeds for the next day!)
The pools are immaculate and (thank God) cold! The water slides open from 10am-Midday and then from 2pm -4pm. There are 3 of them and two of them are very fast the blue curly one is so slow that you have to propel yourself at the bottom!
At the start of our holiday the British were the majority, but by the time we left the Germans were. They have a nice Pie chart in the lifts each day so you can see what percentage of nations are staying at the hotel each day.
Check -in was a bit of a let down as although first in we were last to be sorted as they said our room wasn't ready. The reception staff were a bit miserable and we didn't get the service we would have expected. However the bags were brought up quickly so no problems there.
I am not going to say much about the food as it was excellent and a wide variety that should ensure everbody finds something that suits. We had an great waiter(Emre) who had wine on our table each night(I think the tips helped!!). Also if you can try and speak a little Turkish to them as they appreciate the attempts.Even please(Lutfen) and Thankyou(Tesekkur..pronounced Teshekooor) helps.
The 3 a la carte restaurants are free to use and you book these at guest relations between 10am to midday. However you can only dine in each one once a week. The 3 are Italian,Mexican and Turkish. We went to the Italian and Mexican and was very dissapointed with the lack of service in each. In the Mexican for the main course it is either Chicken Fajita or Beef Fajita. I would have thought there would have been more choice and if I have had to pay for it I would have been even more dissapointed.
I used the gym which was excellent and opens around 8am.
We went scuba diving and tried to use the hotels diving centre but they weren't interested and asked us to come back later...no thanks. We used the Concorde's diving centre and they were fantastic..honestly if you want to go scuba diving use these guys you won't be disappointed. The cost for my son and myself diving and my wife snorkelling was about 500 lira(about £170) which included a dvd of the dive. You depart about 9:30 and get back approx 3 hours later.
We rented a cabana for our final day which is 40 euros and this was excellent. As you arrive there is fruit waiting for you on the table and a large dish full of beer/water/fantas etc covered in ice cubes. The waiter was great constantly filling the dish back up with fresh ice cubes and getting us drinks from the bar, although they should(like the Concorde) give you a ice cold flannel as this was a great idea.
We decided to go into Antalya and was amazed when they didn't have a shuttle bus so we decided to get the bus. This service is an absolute steal. A brand new single decker bus, air conditioned and for the 3 of us to Antalya(about 25 mins away) was 12 Lira(£4) RETURN!!!
Get the bus(LC07) outside the hotel(opposite side of the road).
There are two pool tables and some video games in the games room and also a two lane Ten-Pin bowling alley. I expected to see the snooker tables that were in the brochure but these have been taken out and a bar with comfortable seats/sofas installed instead.
So in summary a very nice hotel, very clean and modern and I wouldn't have a problem staying here again, however if I had to choose it would be the Concorde....

This hotel is good located, and gives you opportunity to enjoy, it does not matter if you are business man, or a couple, family of group of friends. All types of travelers are her accommodated. The stuff is good, but if you don`t give tip to house keeper, she will do all her duties but will change your linen on in a seven days. Also the shower gel and other supplies will be changed from time to time. But if you give a tip she will try to fit your wishes. The food quality is average, and the fresh fish is served approximately two times for a seven days. The food offer is to be better. The waiters are perfect if you know turkey, but if you speak in english they will not understand you at all. The rooms are good equipped. Bed quality is high. You can relax and sleep like a baby. Pool area is perfect, there are few pools and also special adult pool. Indoor pool is good, but the prices of the spa center service are too high. The beach is average but the bars are perfect, the waiter will make you always good cocktail, does not matter if it is morning or the night. Entertainment team is cool. All in all Baia Lara is good hotel, and you want regret if you stay here.

Room Tip: Ask them to give you room on the upper floor, they have a room on the zeroth level and they are so n...

I wanted to give a short honest opinion for a family, so here goes:-

We stayed 8th to 22nd August - family of four (children aged 9 & 11 - us aged 42 & 43!!).

The hotel is beautiful with long stretched out pools which lead down to the wide sandy beach (far nicer than I had imagined). There is a jetty with sun loungers, bar and bean bags, we even saw a turtle whilst sunbathing! The water is calm and we were very happy to leave our children playing with their new friends.

POOLS - are uncrowded, our children loved the slides - we barely saw them except for the occasionally spray of sun cream. They had made lots of friends by day 2 of the holiday and tended to lunch with them and also play with them in the evenings.

SUN LOUNGERS - lots of them. However, beware of the dreaded "reservation towels!!". On our first day we wondered down at 10am, there were no beds. We asked staff for a bed and got no where, it was now 42 degrees. We ended up lifting some over the fence from the childrens pool onto the grass. On speaking to another holiday maker we found out people were getting up at around 5.30am to put their towels down. Being a complete insomniac it wasnt a problem for me! however when you are at a 5 star hotel you do not want to be getting up at this time to get a bed. Unfortunately you eventually get drawn into this as you need a bed and umbrella.

FOOD - If you like puddings you will be in heaven. Food delicious, plentiful, excellent quality. The chefs are constantly circling around checking. There are themed nights, e.g. french, chinese, etc.

ENTERTAINMENT - Very high standard. We watched several acts including mongolian acrobats - truly amazing. Once a week there is a "white night" with laser lights, really lovely pretty & great music.

EXCURSION - we booked a speed boat trip with 4 friends we met & went along the coast, through a waterfall and stopped off at a bay - the children LOVED it!.

Out the front of the hotel there is a shopping mall, some lovely little shops selling every fake watch make that you could think of, fake Hollister hoodies, silver jewellery etc. No hasseling what so ever from the shop keepers. We all purchased quite a few items, children liked shopping there. There is a larger air conditioned shopping mall 5 minutes walk up the road.

Would I go back? Absolutely. If you want a relaxing holiday with a truly 5 star treatment then don't hesitate.

We have had some truly lovely holidays, but my children said this was the best ever. The standard of hotel in Turkey is now making it very difficult to choose where to go next year.

(Just to add - our friends have just returned from the Cornelia de luxe in belek, they said if was gorgeous but no one spoke english, which made kids club & entertainment difficult. At the Baia it is around 30% british, 30% dutch and the rest different nationalities).

Hope this has helped, if you book, have a happy holiday!

Having already stayed in turkey three times already with the titanic hotel being our favourite we knew it was going to be very hard to beat but well what can I say this was truly an unforgettable holiday and our favourite by far!!
Rooms - we were located on the 7th floor which was very quiet which we liked the room itself was lovely and clean just what we wanted. We had a side sea view which was the most sea we have ever had. The only issue was the beds were rather hard (but you get that at most hotels) and being on the 7th floor you couldn't sit down and have a look at the view you had to stand up all the time as we had a concrete balcony not a glass balcony. Although on the last day we paid 75 euros to keep our room until 10pm because of our late flight and we had to change rooms and were given a room on the 5th floor with a pool view and I can honestly say the view was spectacular and that it's actually worth the money if you get a view as good as that!
Staff - credit to all the staff who were very helpful and pleasant this truly makes a big difference when you go on holiday!
Food - plenty of choice and presented lovely, you can never go hungry every day they even brought sweetcorn, cucumber, melon and ice cream around the pool which was wonderful. Must mention the white bar was nice to go to for lunch especially the haddock and chips they were beautiful. The brasserie was always lovely to come up from the pool at like 5 and have a little cake and a cup of tea.
Pools and entertainment team - the pools were great and very big. But what made our holiday the best was the entertainment team we can't thank them enough a special mention to cem, mammut and gizem these were wonderful they didn't stop! We all had such a laugh and the one day they had off it wasn't the same without them it felt too quiet and boring! They made all the activities that bit more special there was always something going on in the pool so you never got bored whether it was water gym, water polo, the pool game or activities like darts, volleyball, football, archery, French bowls ect. Every Friday there is the Olympics which whilst you're there you must take part in my daughter absolutely loved it you'll see it for yourself!! The best entertainment team we've ever come across in all the years we've been on holiday.
The entertainment of an evening in our opinion was pretty good. Whilst we were there for two weeks they only repeated about three shows. All acts were brought in from outside and were great especially the Mongolian acrobatics WOW!
Beach - the pier is lovely and a wonderful touch to the hotel. We didn't use the beach much because there was always something going on at the pool and we did find this beach compared to the rest we have been to in turkey was very deep as you stepped in. It wasn't ideal for children to play in as there was no shallow area.

All in all a perfect holiday and we have never gone back to the same hotel because we like somewhere different but this hotel has ticked all the boxes and we may just even consider coming back!
The only fault is towards the end of our holiday there were people putting towels on sunbeds at midnight this isn't fair and a rule should be enforced if this continues.

We travelled during peak season at the end of July, with our 2 children 11 and 16. A beautiful hotel, very friendly staff and first class food. I really can't find fault. Thank you to all the staff for your friendliness and hard work in very high temperatures.

Two weeks spent at the very pleasant Baia Lara Hotel. Food of very high standard and follows a theme each day of the week (repeats each week). Buffet style in main restaurant with waiters providing drinks and clearing. We also had a most enjoyable meal in the a la Carte Italian restaurant. The room we had on the 7th floor was spacious for the 3 of us. 3rd bed was a "bed" and appreciated as often these are "camp bed" quality. We rate the hotel highly on every aspect. The entertainment was better than in most hotels we'd stayed in before. The beach and sea was superb.

However -and there is always one- the hotel felt extremely crowded on most days. A trip to find a sun bed round the pool at 09:00 will on balance not be fruitful, and all areas are pretty well packed with sunbeds on lawns under trees and even in end sections of the bars. The beach usually will have a place for the latecomers. Finding a table for lunch round the snack bars of the main pool could also on occasion be difficult. Service could also be very slow due to the sheer volume of people. For the price and star rating we would have wanted a more relaxed atmosphere and less crowded environment. If we return it will not be in the peak season :-)

Travelled with children aged 11 and 9. We go to different countries every year and this has to be one of the best hotels we have stayed in. We had to study hard to think of a complaint.......and still thinking cos there arent any, It was a fab two weeks and werent ready for home at the end of our holiday. The only people who complained with those who had been there for 3 and 4 years in a row.....what do you expect, nothing is every the same.

15 min transfer from airport. Check in fast and efficient with very pleasant staff Arrived at the hotel at 2215 hours Unpacked and went to brassiere to get a bite to eat and drink.

Room: 1 superking, 1 single and 1 sofa bed and very comfy. No problems with our air con. Room cleaned to a high standard every day.

Pools: The pools are huge and we loved them. Was up at 6.30 7 everyday to get a sunbed in the shade, but then again thats everywhere if you go away in the August school holidays There are plenty of sunbeds for everyone dotted around the pool all with mattresses which made for a relaxing 6.30 a.m watching the sunrise with a coffee and kindle in hand. Midmorning they walk around with drinks, and ice cold cucumber sprinkled with salt, mmmmmm On an afternoon it was watermelon, sweetcorn and icecream.

Food: Amazing Buffet was a different theme every evening. Mexican was the best al a carte by far. Huts to one side of the pool at lunch time each serving different foods ie. Pizza, chicken/donor kebab, hotdog, burgers, pasta, salad, waffles, pancakes and turkish cuisine. The icecream man appears there at 1.30 every afternoon,,,,,,,delish

To the other side of the pool you can lunchtime table service serving fish and chips, pasta and sandwiches

Bars: All bars had bottles of water in ice on the bar so you could just help yourself. Pool bar was ok, not the best service out of all, Lobby bar very contemporary and cool. The white bar on an evening is nice to chill out as is the beach bar which looks completely different to the day time with chair covers etc. The White Party is a must.......amazing with no expense spared. Service was fine in all bars. People say they arent quick enough but they do a good job and are a little more relaxed than us. If it isnt quick enough then take the massive 10 sec walk to the bar. They do serve Absolute and Smirnoff Vodka. Unless you ask for it you will get their own brand as a matter of course, otherwise no problem

Entertainment Team: Love them Mahmoot youre the best. They were all so friendly and made a nice presence around the pool. They are not pushy and always speak and say hello. By the end of the holiday if you werent looking they would push you in, but then again, we would do the same. Great with the kids i.e. walking around with my daughters bright pink headband and sunglasses on.

All the hotel team work long hours and our service was no different after tipping them. We did tip as gratitude not as ' serve me now, and quickly'

I could go on about this hotel but no need, It was worth every penny and our best family holiday yet. Thank you Baia Lara it was brilliant. Miss you :((
