We stayed at Melas Lara for two weeks in July 2012. It was a good hotel with friendly staff. the entertainment team was grat and members like Safak, Mustafa and Adem made it even more memorable. As the previous reviews, pool sunbeds were a problem bt there were additional beds available and the sandy beach was always available.
A great holiday overall.

We stayed at the Melas Lara in Lara Beach for one week in July 2012. The transfer time is 20-25 mins so not too bad. On arrival at the Hotel the Reception area was in darkness, but we were checked in pretty quickly. We were given our room key and the porter took our luggage. He also showed us how to use the safe (which was free) and then left.

On getting up in the morning, around 8am, we struggled to get a sunbed, the pool attendant brought two out for us. Breakfast was fantastic, good choice for everyone, omelettes made for you and warm pancakes made freshly every morning plus usual fried eggs, scrambled, sausage, etc. pool was very clean and water was warm. not the usual freezing cold you normally get.

Lunch was as you would expect, a fantastic choice with something for everyone, including my fusssy 11 year old who normally eats chips and chicken nuggets. There was pasta, chicken, soup, chips and much more. desserts were out of this world. If you have been to the pool, you do have to get dried and changed as they will refuse you entry to the restaurant in wet swimwear.

dinner is similar to lunch, just more choices.

There are two other restaurants you can book, the turkish and the fish restaurants. You can book one per week, if you wanted to go, you would have to book almost at the start of your holiday.

We used the spa for a turkish bath, about 115 euros for 2 adults and 1 child. this was the basic one but very worthwhile.

I would say that the hotel wasmainly German tourists, who are some of the rudest people i have ever met. You just have to be as rude as they skip queues and barge past you. And of course grab all the sunbeds. Most days we had to set the alarm for 6.45am just to get a sunbed. The beach is only a few minutes walk away but there is nowhere else to go if you are not at the pool so a sunbed is a must. This was the only downside to our holiday.

The entertainment team are fabulous and put on some good shows in the evening and the daytime entertainment was definitely a laugh. There were also a couple of professional shows which were pretty good.

There are a couple of shops a few minutes walk away (come out front of hotel and turn left, you will see the shopping centre in front of you, only a handful of shops though. Apart from here, there is really nowhere else to go unless you want to walk a bit further on, but it was too hot (38 during daytime and 31 at night)to walk much further.

Check out is at 12 noon, our flight was very late that evening, but we spoke to the Guest Relations Lady (who was very helpful) and we kept our room on til 2pm for free, which meant we could go to pool, have lunch, pack, check out, then back to pool. We could then use the shower at the spa and there is a hairdryer there too.

All in all, a good relaxing holiday, except for the sunbed issue.

Just returned from holiday at Melas Lara Beach with adult family members.
Arrived early hours and reception were welcoming. Rooms were clean (except dusty bottom of mirror which we marked to see if it was cleaned) with good facilities - jacuzi in bath, good power shower, plenty of hot water and free toiletries, in bathroom. Beds very comfy, great view from balcony. Careful if overlooked by next door hotel as they can see you on balcony. They must have got an eyeful of us on occasion!! Mini bar refreshed every day. Free safe and aircon, which only worked when balcony doors were shut.
Hotel staff were not overly friendly - English does not seem to be widely spoken. Some wished you good morning and served you with a smile.
Food was great with lots of options, salad and fruit were always available.
Breakfast was a bit samey as they don't have bacon (being a Muslin country) and the sausage was more for the Germans - sliced bread was hard, twice round the toaster to get it brown!
Omlettes and fried eggs were OK.
Continental breakfasts with meat and cheese and pastries were available.
We booked the Fish Resturant but on my last trip to Turkey I was very ill from fish so I was a bit worried about eating fish. Best bit - There is a great view from the Fish Resturant !
The meal consists of lots of courses but I was not over impressed and would not have been happy if this had not been included in the all inclusive deal. Four from our party of six were unwell after eating there.
The Turkish Resturant was fully booked during our stay.
If you want to try these resturants I suggest book as soon as you arrive.
The Beach Bar was lovely as you get the breeze from the sea, choose from menu and there is a salad bar and sweet selection with ice cream.
Pool Bar offered burgers but I did not try this.
This resort is most definately dominated by German, Russian and Turkish tourists! We had a row regarding the sun beds one day with a German (?) . After that we were getting up at 6am to get decent beds around the pool. As the hotel supplied pool towels which were all the same I would suggest personallising your choice of bed with your own towel and book or hat/clothing.
The pool area was clean and the pools were lovely.
The garden area toward the beach has lovely seating with cushions and net curtains great for my afternoon nap. The chess set board could do with a tidy up also the bowling ball is broken.
The crazy golf is a must.
The gardens were tidy and otherwise well kept.
The beach sand gets too hot to walk on with only a limited pathway to the sun beds.
The spa facilities are over priced and the guy going round will promise you good prices and free treatments which are forgotton very easily. They also have a problem with their credit card machine for paying in sterling, so make you pay in Euro which may affect the exchange rate with your card provider.
Everything is priced in Euro, obviously for the mostly German guests and they seem upset if you ask for price in Turkish Lire.
The lobby bar is open 24 hours, a nice area to chat, play cards etc. Try the cocktails - mmm lovely.......
The night club was awful - boom boom music - again more for the Germans I feel.
The entertainment team seemed to offer alot during the day if you are into participating - darts, shooting, water polo etc. The pillow fights on the surf-board are quite entertaining.
Only watched part of an evening show and found this entertaining - the Titanic sketch is brill!
Went on a Thomas Cook Boat Trip down river to beach then Managat Water Falls and Markets.
The boat trip was lovely but the lunch provided on the boat was poor. You get hasselled at the beach to buy from small children, man with small monkey for photos, jet ski rides, and they charge for the sun beds - seeing as you are only there for about 1 hour its not very good.
The outside market is OK but all very samey - if you want snide clothing etc here is the place to barter. The indoor market is a complete rip off. TK Maks style and I cannot believe this stuff is genuine. Even the turkish delight I brought there was big packaging with hardly anything inside.
The Managat Waterfall area was much better with a nice market to buy souveniers - Thomas Cook should miss out the indoor market and spend more time at the waterfall.
The local shops are a short walk or taxi ride away, they are very modern with shopping malls fully air conditioned.
Many of the shops have similar goods for sale so its worth shopping around for good prices and try to barter with them.
Take a trip to Antalya Harbour - very pretty at night.
This was my first All Inclusive holiday and I must admit although its great to be able to eat and drink as much as you like you don't get the option to try eating locally which may be cheap and a different experience.
The hotel is very nice and I would recommend it although I do not think I would visit this particular resort again.
The weather was fantastic !!!!!

We decided to book a last minute holiday in December 2010- due to the horrible ice and snow in northern Scotland. We got an amazing deal from Thomas Cook- we couldn't believe we got a 5 star hotel for the price.
We arrived very late at night.
When we walked through the door- the sight of the foyer was amazing.
The grandure of the lobby was a good first impression- with beautiful marble floors, chandeliers and a fountain in the centre.

There weren't many staff around, but the staff that were immediately brought us drinks and let us sit and relax while our luggage was taken to our rooms.
We hadn't staid in an all inclusive hotel before- so we weren't sure how the system worked.

Our room was lovely. The only thing was we requested a double bed- and it was two twins put together. We had a laugh though when I nearly fell through the middle in the middle of the night.
We had requested a sea view- but didn't expect much as it was so last minute.
We had a "side sea view" which was amazing. Also the bathroom was really nice and we were surprised to find we a huge whirl pool bath.

During our short stay- which I wish could've been longer- we played pool at night times, and tennis a few evenings.
There was Bingo at the bar- done mainly in German- this proved to be quite funny, but it was quite cheesy.
This time of year at this hotel is perfect for a quiet getaway- there wasn't much entertainment on/the usual summer holiday events- but we didn't mind this for winter.
We missed out on a trip because our Thomas Cook rep was terrible. She was also late for the meeting and very derrogitory about the hotel. We did the trip on our next visit to the area though.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The food was great and there was a wide choice even for vegetarians.
The salads and tomatoes were excellent- even in the winter.

I wish the pools and slides had been open- but we knew before going at this time of year they wouldn't be. On New years day I went swimming in the sea because the weather was so good- so this made up for it.

The New Years festivites were good. There was music, dancing and entertainment.
As there was so many people the service was very slow- as in the starters etc were brought and then 4 hours later the main courses arrived. During the interim there was the entertainment and lots of drinks brought to the table- so I didn't mind too much.
Before 12 everyone went outside for champagne to watch the fireworks display.
I have never seen such a good fireworks display in my life.
It was absolutely stunning. We could see other hotels displays in the distance and they were nothing compared to Melas's.

While we were there there the Royal Holiday Palace was being built next door.
When you see it it is stunning and looks like a palace. Unfortunately this will make alot of people put down Melas Lara- beause its not as esthetically pleasing or stunning. Melas also has alot less facilities so Melas isn't really for families as much I feel.
I worry also that because of the height of the Palace it will begin to cause shading over the bathing area at the Melas pool.

Overall- the hotel was beautiful, room was brilliant, the weather was on average 25C per day, whereas at home it was 5 or much lower, the hotel was immaculate, clean, lovely food, great ambiance, perfect location.
Loved the holiday.
I would go back for a winter break at a good price.
Since then have gone back for summer and spring to the same strip of hotels, but in some ways Melas Lara will always remain my favourite- but it may just be for sentimental reasons.

Room Tip: We had what they called a side-sea view. Which was really an amazing sea view.

Animation team was amazing. they kept you entertained during the day with various games and competitions. And the evening with shows. The comedy was so good. Everything was very good. I recommend the turkish and fish restaurant. Very good food. Rooms were spacious and kept clean daily. The beach was only 5 minute walk from the hotel and was very beautiful.

Just returned from a week in the Melas Lara with my husband and I would definitely not be returning. The hotel is beautiful, clean, very high standard, average facilities. The Thomas Cook rep in the welcome meeting appeared very negative about the hotel, she only visits for 20-30 mins a day and does not spend time there as it is not British!! only 40 British guests at the hotel during our stay, advised to use facilities like Turkish Bath etc outside of the hotel as they are over priced. The food was the same every morning, lunch and evening, the only variation was possibly sea bass instead of Trout, lentil soup instead of tomato, other than that by the third day I was able to go direct to the cooking pot to get what I wanted. The poolside and beach bar facilities are served at a table from a menu so food is not as readily available as at other all inclusive where you could get pizzas, burgers, wraps, crepes etc as and when you wanted. I did not feel all that welcome, on arrival the hotel reception was almost in darkness as the lights are switched off at a certain time along with the hotel features ie the reception fountain so as to save electric!! Rooms are vacated by midday on your departure day and despite the rep telling us that they will extend til 4pm if they can, when we requested this we were told she should not have said it as they do not do this especially in high season, there was no offer of a courtesy room however after much persuasion they did extend our room until 2pm.. The staff were pleasant but really did not give the time of day to us whereas they were very friendly towards the other guests. It may be that the hotel has not accommodated British visitors and are not as comfortable with us as their regular visitors. The room maid was pleasant and the rooms were spotless, if you left her a tip you would get swans and petals etc but no tip, no niceties!! A minor detail but sums up the attitude towards the British, there was not even an English version of the Tour information file in reception and the spa centre had treatment leaflets and prices in all languages except English. A very poor show. There is very little outside the hotel but that is usual for these types of resorts. We did go on the Antalya uncovered trip which stopped at a waterfall, jewellry store and a leather shop which were all a waste of time, you were then taken to see old town Antalya and new Antalya. The tour guide was very informative, friendly and probably the best person we encountered on the whole holiday.
On a plus note, the minibar was stocked every day, 2 Efes, 1 coke, 1 fanta, 2 water and 2 mineral water and the safe in the room was free to use. There was free internet connection but only in the hotel lobby. The sunbeds on the beach were free of charge.
