We spent 2 weeks at the Xperia Saray Beach Hotel, Alanya in May 2018. It’s an extremely nice hotel on the main street through Alanya, and the beach is behind it. It couldn’t be more ideally situated.
The room we were originally allocated was on the ground floor opposite the reception desk (102). It wasn’t ideal for two reasons; the noise from people going through the hotel lobby at all hours of the night (upper floors are carpeted and therefore absorb most of the sound), and the hideous ‘view’ from our window of what looked like a shed roof (which came right up to the window, making the room very dark) and a large generator. We were also disappointed not to have a balcony of any sort, so there was nowhere to hang wet swim towels/costumes. However, we were moved eventually, only after having to complain numerous times, and were given a very nice 5th floor room with a Juliette balcony facing the main street. The room was cleaned every day, with fresh towels every 2 days.
The pool area was really nice, and the beach speaks for itself. There were plenty of sunbeds both by the pool and on the beach. It seemed the hotel loans out towels for the sunbeds, although this was never explained to us, but we’d brought our own anyway.
The food was very good (especially the cakes!!) and there was plenty of variety, except to say that the ‘hot’ food was only ever lukewarm. The mains vegetarian options were rather limited too.
The evening entertainment wasn’t to our taste, plus it only catered to the Russian guests (we were the only British couple in the hotel), which made it impossible for us to get involved had we wanted to, so we went elsewhere most nights. Even the Aqua Aerobics in the daytime was instructed in Russian.
The staff/waiters were generally very nice, although we were overlooked in favour of more forceful guests barking their orders behind us – it seemed staff were keen to please those guests first rather than us, even though I spoke in Turkish. This became really annoying, as it happened too often.
However, the very best experience we had in this hotel was of the Hamam/Spa. Kasim is a really nice guy who books the sessions in for you. We had 2 full hamam sessions – one at the beginning of our holiday and one at the end – with 3 extra full-body hot stone massages in between. The prices were very reasonable, especially compared to similar at home. It was a little touch of luxury that we both thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.
