“good enough but not excellent”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

We spent a week here at October half term 3 adults and 2 children aged 10 and 12.
Hotel was clean, room was a good size, fresh towels each day. Balcony large with a sea view. Pools clean and big but freezing cold. kids loved the slides, plenty of sun beds.
Sea beautiful, very clean, warm and clear with little fish swimming about. A bit uneven to enter due to rock /coral but once in the water it is fine.
Bars had long queues, only one open in the evening, friendly bar staff.
Entertainment was ok but only for an hour and a half in the evening, plenty to do in the day around pool such as darts, mini golf, yoga, basketball. table tennis and football.
Food good but a bit repetitive, hard to find a table if you go for dinner at 6:30 -7 pm.
Tea making facilities in room means a kettle, you have to hunt around the hotel for tea bags and ask at lobby bar for a carton of milk.
nowhere to walk to in the evening, you can get a bus from outside the hotel to Alanya for 3 lira where there are lots of shops selling fake goods, or to Konakli town for 1 lira 50 which we thought was better than Alanya.
Boat trips from Alanya boatyard for around 40 lira per adult ( about £13) and half that for children, 4 hours on boat including lunch and drinks.
While we were there most guests were English.
Beach bar is lovely to sit and have a drink while watching sunset or for during the day when at the beach to grab a drink and something to eat, however food was nicer at the main restaurant.
main road outside hotel is very busy day and night and as I am a light sleeper I had trouble getting to sleep due to the noise.
Animation team were brilliant and really friendly, especially Sando.
We would not go back here due to lack of things to do outside of the hotel, if you want to go away and spend all of your time in the hotel then beach club Doganay will be ok for you.

We flew to Alanya, Turkey not knowing really what to expect after reading such mixed reviews. We had the holiday of a life time and the fully inclusive is one fo the best we have experienced. The hotel staff were helpful and we tipped the restaurant waiter to ensure we got a nice window seat table for lunch/dinner with our favourite drinks ready and waiting for us. We experienced the Turkish bath - spa, massage etc and anyone who visits, this is a must! We bought lots of goods in the markets (Tuesday Alanya, Friday Konakli) and bazzars - enjoy the haggling.

The food was amazing and such a grand selection with buffet style, all you can eat, as many courses and cultural foods you could wish for (including the standard spaghetti bolognese, soups and salad and chips) as well as a range of excellent meats, kebabs, vegetarian foods and wonderful cakes.

We will go back in October next year - if not before! We stayed away from the water slides as our 17 year old and 13 year old wanted to chill and relax away from the noise and other events such as zumba and water volleyball. We loved the private beach and the restaurant swimming pool on the beach side.

The room and balcony were clean with a daily visit for clean towels, mini bar cold soft drinks, and the beds to be made. We were allowed to keep our rooms until 4pm as our flight was not until after midnight.

I advise you to prebook your transfer as we got there within 1.5 hours on a small minibus, whilst others boarded a coach and went to every hotel on the way and arrived 3 hours after us.

I strongly advise you not to bother with the a la carte restaurant as it's Italian was rubbish and we ended up going back in to the normal buffet restaurant after, too eat nice food.

My children loved the para sailing on the beach (£25 each) and we enjoyed the boat trip. Cleopatra beach is lovely and a must. Lots of pirate ships floating around the coastline with tours.

Enjoy
Amanda

Room Tip: sea view with balcony is a must and worth the extra

IGNORE ALL THE BAD REVIEWS! Just returned from a brilliant two week stay. After seeing some of the bad reviews left before we went we were worried, but the holiday just got better and better. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. If you make an effort with them, they will go beyond their job to help you. (We even got a smile from the blond lady collecting glasses in the lobby). The animation team were the best I have ever experienced, with the most people I have ever seen getting involved in the pool games. They were also always up for a chat and a joke. Especially Mario and Ersin (Lady Gay Gay).

Although in need of a little TLC here and there, you couldn't fault the hotel on cleanliness. The hotel itself is situated just out of Alanya, but there is a free bus from the hotel if you want to go shopping, experience the buzz of the town and visit the harbour.

There was an excellent choice in food, lots of new things to try - which is part of going on holiday abroad! My mum had courgette and aubergine nearly every day for breakfast. There is chicken, chips and spag bol for the fussy eater. Drinks are available 24 hours which was great and the fridges of bottled water made drinking enough throughout the day so much easier. The only downfall is the pools were so cold! But the sea was lovely to swim in! Every day was rounded off with a visit to the turkish bath (which is free) and a cocktail (included in the AI package). Thankyou to all the staff at the Doganay that made this holiday a trip to remember!

Well we have just arrived home from a weeks stay at the hotel, unfortunately for us things started of on a bad footing , we arrived quite late after a long transfer, first impressions were good until we entered our room, we were put on the 6 floor where the rooms are quite dated and small. We could barely swing a cat and the room had rotten wood and was really dirty, after speaking to reception we were moved to the ground floor to a much nicer room a few days later with no fuss. The staff over all were ok but communication was very difficult and some of the staff could be very rude ! This over the time became a bit frustrating .
Food is plentiful if your an adventurous eater, but did become very repetitive, but was very tasty.
The hotel for us was a bit far out as we like to wander of an evening, there is a hotel free bus that runs 4 times a day that takes you down by Alanya harbour which I would highly recommend but be prepared for a crush on the return journey (40 on a 20 seater mini bus)
If you want a great day out on the boat , book up the Dilara 5, lovely crew highly enjoyable day, and if looking for somewhere to eat along the harbour I highly recommend "The Orange Restaurant, beautiful food with staff that cant do enough for you.
The hotel has a lot of facilities to keep you occupied during the day, although the pools were freezing but we put that down to it being the end of season.
The animation team were great we didn't really get involved with that side of things but watching from afar they really go full out to make your holiday a memorable one , there's few staff that could take a leaf out of there books !
overall the hotel was reasonable clean, lifeguards a bit to be desired (playing cards under the stairs) taking an hour to sweep up a broken salt pot then sweeping it into the drain around the pool was a bit of an eye opener.
Beach is nice although a bit rocky but always plenty of sunbeds and the food in the bar was good.
If you like having beer on tap and location is not an importance then this is a great hotel, unfortunately just not for us

Room Tip: If there are 4 or more of you request a connecting room as four people in a standard room is a squas...

Ok so. I was v worried when reading these reviews thinking it was going to be a nightmare, but we had a great week. Staff are amazing, all very pleasant. Ok some didn't appear to be on laughing gas all the time but they were polite and professional.
Animation team were great, and hotel facilities were good.
It's not a brand new hotel, there were some things that looked a little tired but the place was immaculate, especially the pool areas and the pools themselves. Dining was pretty standard, but plenty of choice, albeit a bit frantic at busy times. A la carte was fully booked so couldn't try it out which was a bit of a shame.
I would happily return here, and so would my kids.

Just spent October holiday week at The Doganay 24th to 31st for my daughters 16 th Birthday, please don't listen to negative complaints, as for the money this hotel is amazing, its by no means a 5 star but is def a 4 star turkish hotel. Cleanliness is outstanding, especially rooms, staff are friendly especially animation team who go all out to make you feel welcome and always stop for a chat, (although the blonde lady in lobby collecting glasses has yet to smile but hey that's just one). Drinks and food is plentiful, a little repetative but beautiful salads, pasta, cheese, the freshest bread ever and chips and grilled meat for the fussy eaters, I dont think there is any part of the day or night that you cant help yourself to food or drink also helping yourself to bottles of red, rose, and white wine was fabulous and bottles of coca cola and fanta at every meal at hand. Free bus into Alanya also available if wanting to shop or visit the beautiful harbour, you may have to stand on return journey but it's free, you would have to stand on the dolmus as it gets busy. to sum it up a very friendly well ran hotel would go back tomorrow. Thank you so much Doganay Staff !!!

Arriving on 13th October 2013 my boyfriend and I had a few reservations having read that some people had problems on check in and told they had no room available. We arrived approx 1 am and had no such problem. The reception staff were very friendly and we were shown to a lovely room which had views out to the hills on one side and the sea to the other side. The room was basic but had everything you needed, spacious enough for the two of us and exceptionally clean. (Housekeeping came in daily) In fact the whole hotel was exceptionally clean, tidy and well maintained. (As some other reviewers have written I did not get any notes asking for tips)
On the first day we enjoyed the turkish bath and massage which I highly recommend, I have had one before and this one was better than before and reasonably priced.
The food was lovely, if you're a particularly fussy eater and limit what you will try then you may find it a bit repetitive but if you're willing to try different things there is plenty of choice. Stay away from the pudding counter; not because it's bad, because it is too darn GOOD! I put on a few extra lbs in weight because of those delicious puddings!! Food and drink is served around the clock, breakfast is 7am - 10am with a more limited late breakfast available 10am - 11am. Tea and cakes are 11am - 5pm. Lunch starts at 12.30pm til 2pm and dinner is 6.30pm - 9pm. There is a snack service doing pizza, pasta, chips etc that runs 11am - 5pm and then Soup counter and late breakfast (great for those arriving very late like us) served 11pm - 6am. Drinks are 24hrs. Sadly I can't comment on the A'La Carte restaurants as we left it too late to book - do it early! You're allowed to eat here once per week of your stay as part of your all inclusive. There is a disco down at the beach running from midnight to 3am which was a good laugh.
The beach was lovely although it was very pebbly and a bit rough on the feet and be careful as you go in the sea as there are a ledges of rocks a few feet in that you clamber over. They're not sharp as such but just be aware they're there. We had no problems getting sun beds and we are not the earliest of risers, we usually didn't get laid out in the sun until 11 or 12 ish plus on the beach there is a chap who will find you some beds if you can't spot any.
There is a free bus that will take you into Alanya (approx 10mins) away where the shops are all very much alike but definitely still worth a visit. Remember to haggle!!!! They expect it!! One great thing we noticed was that nobody hassled you to come into their shops as you were walking about as I have put up with in other parts of Turkey. Once you were inside they were more eager to sell to you but still not what I would call forceful or pestering.
The hotel itself is quite remote but there was fairly decent (not amazing but ok) entertainment on every evening from 9pm and most nights the animation crew organised trips into Alanya to the clubs there if you want to get out and about. We didn't.
If I had to put any downer at all on the whole experience it was the transfer from the airport which is approx 2 -2.5 hrs.
We had a late pick up on the way back to the airport and check out was 12noon, (you can pay extra for a late check out) but it was all ok as we enjoyed our last day with luggage safely stored but accessible for us and we were allowed to use the showers down in the spa to freshen up before we left.
Overall The hotel was clean, tidy, modern decor (quite plush looking actually) and comfortable places to lounge and relax in the evenings. Food was perfectly acceptable and tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty to do including water sports at the beach (we went scuba diving) and to be honest I really can't fault it. I'm not one prone to complaining whereas I know some people have particularly high standards and may have different views on this hotel but I genuinely couldn't find anything to complain about. On our last night I asked my boyfriend if he could think of anything negative to balance out this review but he too was full only of praise.
We had a great week here and I would highly recommend it.
