We have been to this hotel a total of five times over the last six years and having read the previous review I was rather surprised and sceptical about the comments made, but I can confirm this hotel has definitely lost its appeal for me.

After a four and half hour flight and the normal two hour transfer , we arrived at the hotel at 01.55 local time we were told our oom was not ready, strange as the rooms are normaly ready with it being a late flight. We were told the room would not take long less than one hour ! One hour came and went still no room , I enquired what the delay was the reply was we are waiting for the cleaners to come !

At 03.30 a couple with a young child appeared at the desk checking out , and amazingly Five minutes later our room was ready at 03.35 ok Alanya is two hours ahead so it was 01.35 UK time but still a very long day/night.

Now on to the clientele . We have always acknowledged that this was primarily a German hotel which usually means very high standards , as we have experienced in previous holidays here, but also what goes with that , people of a certain age seem to think they can control the hotel , while sat in the vitamin bar having a drink listening to the background music a patron came from the other end of the veranda and turned the music down saying it was to loud ! So now the guests control the volume of the music that other paying guests are listening to..

This year overbooking seems to be a major problem for this hotel in the first three days we are aware of twelve couples that have he to stay elsewhere for one night because of overbooking, cancelled flights out were one reason so no rooms available .

The food as always is very good , the staff that we dealt with attentive and pleasant as always , but they always seem under pressure , also the third manager in the last four years.

All I can say that in the popularity stakes the British are well down the table, this hotel is geared up German, Russian, Dutch, British, in that order.

This review is being written on our third day of a fourteen night holiday, so incensed am I , that I feel I have let people know what to expect.

Myself and 2 friends arrived at midnite and were told to have something to eat and have a drink in the bar as our room was'nt ready, I approached reception 12 30 and told the room will be ready in 20mins, after another half hour the room still was'nt ready and by 2am the same thing room will be ready soon, at this i complained and asked for the Manager who arrived and tried to tell me they were having problems with the cleaning, i told him we were 2 pensioners and another lady and wanted a room immediately,he said we could have a double with a pull out bed which we accepted.
The room was clean and comfortable and we pleased with it. Grand Kaptan is a bit out of the main town and although they have a free bus you will have to fight to get on it. The food was very good with plenty of variety...the staff were pleasant and courtious although some of the bar staff were a bit unfriendly...towels were left on pool chairs and never lifted so it took us 3 days to get a poolside chair....would i go back to Grand Kaptan NO

This was our first Beach Holiday in this "Grand Kaptan" Hotel in Alanya and it was really good there. It is a very good managed Hotel with a good 4 Star Level. All was clean and we did liked the Design there very much. Especially we have to say, that the Food - Breakfast and Dinner - have been very choiceful and did taste very good. It was hot and fresh. Also good Choices of Drinks.

We were in Grand Kaptan at the end of July until the beginning of August . I can recommend this hotel to everyone, for both families and both for couples. It is very close to the centre, and there were free shuttle buses from the hotel almost every hour. In the centre u have to visit the castle, the museum with old coins and funeral customs, and Damlatas cave. You can easily go there by bus , everyone in the city tells you how to go there. In the hotel, everyone was nice, the guest manager takes care from everything , he is a really nice person. And also the animation team was fantastic there , Hakan knew some Hungarian words which was very nice from him, there were good shows in the evening, not boring, but very funny, if u didn't want to take part in games, they didn't force u. Best animation team ever. Best food: 3 plates of cookies and cakes , ice creams, very good fresh meat and meals everything fish, chicken everyting u can imagine, we were full at the end of the holiday because everything was so delicious. And u can eat cookies after lunch , u can eat at the seaside also, and there is a woman who bakes pita by the swimming pool. U have to taste it as well.We will definitely go back!!! But in the centre of Alanya, u have to take care of one thing: there are two shops where u can buy original turkish tea powder, where the tea is not only in plastic bags but the the shop assistant measures it to you and also u can taste some teas there, but be careful!!! only one shop assistant is nice, the other is very rude and agressive and can screw you, if u are not careful. The youngest (around 30-35 year old) is the ruder, don't buy anything there, and don't go there!!! Luckily, we didn't buy anything there, but he wanted fo force us to buy a very few things for horroristic price! The older man is very nice, he also offers you some desserts mainly from almonds, he is nice, go there!!! In the hotel, only the fitness is poor, the machines are in very poor shape. But it is the best hotel ever!!!!!!!!!!!

My Wife, and 2 daughters (10yrs and 13mnths) and I have just returned from 2 weeks all inclusive in this hotel and we have all loved it. Having already been many other All Inclusive locations I have to say, this is the best we have been to this side of the Atlantic. In terms of value, cleanliness, location, quality of food and drink and friendliness of staff, I have to give a huge thumbs up.

SWIMMING POOLS
Main pool has a swim up bar. Strange thing is they don't serve you here. You have to get out of the pool and go up to the bar above it!!! Also has a baby pool just next to it. Waterslide pool has three good slides open for a large proportion of the day. Music playing at slide pool for the most of the day and lots of fun and games every day too. Both very claen and tidy too.

SUNLOUNGERS AND PARASOLS
We managed to get a good spot by the pool on our second day. Most of the guests seemed to leave their towels, lilos and beach toys on their sunbeds overnight, so we did the same. This worked out great as we did not need to take everything back to the room every night or get up at the crack of dawn to compete for a good spot. There are plenty of beds available both by the pool and on the beach, and you can always slip 10lira (£4) to one of the attendants to sort you out if not.

MINI MARKET
A few shops in the hotel selling essentials. There is also a beauty salon, doctor, souvenir shop and professional photographer.

WI-FI
Pretty good coverage across entire hotel. We had to go out onto the balcony to get full coverage for Skype etc. Completely free you just need to put in your room number and Date of Birth each day.

BUFFET RESTAURANT
Excellent service from majority friendly staff. Played with our 13 month old at every meal and spoiling her to death. Serve all drinks at your table with a smile. Never lingering around for a tip.
Breakfast - Choice of omelettes, cakes, breads, pancakes, toasties etc even salads!!!!!
Lunch - Salads, Grilled meat, bread, soups, pastas, rices, choice of main dishes cakes and much more. You can also eat lunch at the beach restaurant. Waiter service from snack menu including burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, stuffed pittas, Chicken Gordon Blue (which made me laugh), kebabs, and many more.
Evening meal - Much like lunch but with a wider choice. Certain things do get a little monotonous but still very nice in the main.

TWO A LA CARTES
One visit to each per stay - just go to reception to book and order from menu the day before. Each one is open only two days per week.
Seafood - on the beach. We had a booking for 7pm but was still so hot that we had to leave. I would recommend booking later especially in the middle of summer.
Mediterranean - Great choice on the menu - only problem is the time between courses. We were there for over 2 and a half hours despite asking to be quick because of the baby.

SELECTION OF BARS
Great choice of drinks - Local drinks not bad at all. All free including fruit juices and even local Red Bull. Imitation Baileys Malibu etc etc all nice too. I was on the Vodka red Bull almost every night. Cocktails are not included however my wife managed to get a few for free from some of our top bar staff.
The lobby bar is open 24 hrs. Very smart decor with some big aquariums and plasma tvs with music on.
The pool bar I have already mentioned
The Vitamin bar - ner the main restaurant - serves drinks, ice creams and cakes too
The roof bar is open in the evenings and has live music once per week.
The beach bar - is open all day from 10am.
The theater bar is open during evening shows.

SPA CENTRE
Massages etc - free 10 min one for AI guests in first 2 days

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT
Amphitheater at front of hotel. Same mini disco music for half and hour at 9pm can get a little tedious. After that a mixture of external entertainment hotel run shows and audience participation (Miss hotel, Mr and Mrs etc etc). One major criticism we had was that there was nothing happening after about 10.30 most nights. Some of the bars are open but there is no disco or anything like that to go to in the hotel.

HOTEL RUN KIDS CLUB
Not the best I have seen but good for younger kids to go and do drawing etc with hotel supervision.

PLAYGROUND
OK I suppose for kids aged 4-8 but only a few small plastic type things to use. Could also do with a quick clean.

ROOMS
We had a larger room with a king size double, a single, and a nice clean travel cot. There was still space for a couple of armchairs and a coffee table. Beds and pillows are a little on the hard side but at least they are cleaned every day. Air con is reasonably quiet and works well. We only switched the TV on about 3 times whilst there. A couple of music channels and at least 2 in English. Tea/coffee making facilities all included along with mini bar (Beer, Coke, Fanta, Water) all restocked daily. Quite a small, but clean and tidy bathroom with a powerful warm shower and hairdryer. Great smelling shampoo and shower gel etc etc.Small balcony with more than half having a sea view.

THE BEACH
Large private beach easily accessed via a tunnel under the road from the main pool area. They even had a lift for us to take our pushchair down. Sand is OK but a little like gravel in places. The water was so warm and calm enough to swim easily. There are some rocks so we advise that you take some water shoes. There are activities hear such as beech volleyball and bowls every day. They also have all the usual water sports however these are at an additional cost.

LOCAL SHOPS ETC
There is a row of small shops and a restaurant right outside the front of the hotel. There is also a Migos Supermarket which sells most of your essentials you can buy in the UK. If you are thinking of taking bulky items in your luggage dont bother, you can but them here and at a better price too I imagine. We bought pampers nappies baby milk etc etc all the same brand as the UK.
The hotel runs a free 15 min bus ride to Alanya centre throughout the day. Here you will find Fast food restaurants and 1000s of clothing, shoes, souvenir and gifts., Again I would not bother doing loads of panic buying in the UK. Everything you need is here and it is all so cheap. We bought Bikins, trainers, flip flops, hoodies, jeans, etc all genuine fakes for about 1/4 the price in the UK.

In Summary this hotel surprised me ......... in a really positive way. It is compact but has so much to do, and as I said previously the best value all inclusive package I have come across. Enjoy!!!!!

We have just returned from two weeks of eating and drinking in the glorious sunshine.
My kids are very fussy eaters but they have all found food every meal that they have enjoyed, the chicken tasted like kfc, plenty of pasta, good puddings and little to no fish! The drinks were good, not watered down and no queues for the bar. Entertainment was good, the team worked very hard and after a few drinks the nights passed quickly. The rooms were clean, air conditioned and the ice room was a good idea.My only negative to this holiday was the thomas cook nearly 4 hour transfer back to the airport stopping at every hotel, it only took less than 2 hours in a minibus to arrive. Overall an excellent holiday in a fun hotel. Thank you Grand Kaptan.

Room Tip: We had two rooms 245 and 247 next to the lift, little to no noise a decent view. Good standard of li...
