We stayed here for one night in December 2012 whilst touring Tunisia. The hotel is well situated, right on the beach and walking distance to the town centre, Marina and port. It cost 70TD/night for half board. The clientele was almost exclusively Arab, mainly Tunisian.
The Hotel looks good on first arrival, with a huge foyer in marble and nice bars around reception - quite up-market. However, once you get into the lifts the story starts to change. The hotel is suffering from a distinct lack of maintenance and could do with a good renovation. The carpets are worn, the paintwork faded and although 3 of the 4 small, slow and creaky lifts work on arrival, they were all out of action the following morning.
We stayed on the 3rd floor overlooking the beach. The views from the balcony are stunning - in summer it is probably lovely. Originally the rooms would also have been lovely, but are now dated and shabby. The rooms are fully carpeted and do not look too clean - I suspect a good vacuum cleaner would show this in seconds. I hesitated to walk out of the bathroom into the bedroom in bare feet. The bathroom was fairly clean and functional, but likewise past its sell-by date.
The faded splendour of the foyer and bars did not extend to the dining room, which was distinctly 2* in furnishings and decor. The buffet counters were inadequate, with the hot ones lukewarm and the cold ones not very cold. The service was poor, mainly school or college kids with no experience or savvy. There was no fresh cooking or grill available. We had the evening meal and breakfast, and both were equally appalling - actually inedible - the only thing that was good in the evening was the bread - and the same bread was served up for breakfast, by which time of course it was stale! There was no hot water for tea or coffee, just warm water out of a thermos.
The main bar is open to the foyer, and the foyer is open up to the roof, with the rooms leading from balconies overlooking the foyer. This means that the ridiculously loud children’s disco that went on to gone midnight kept everyone anywhere near the central well from sleep. Across the far side of the foyer from the bar you could not hold a conversation because the music was so loud.
We would not stay there again under any circumstances.
