“GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY”
Reviewed August 17, 2008

We stayed for 2 weeks half board (4 adults 2 kids 12,13),the filghts there and back were great (with first choice), transfer to hotel was about 40 mins (3rd drop). It took about 10mins to check in and marvel at the reception area.the room was spacious and well layed out (seperate loo). we stayed in room 451, our balcony faced the hotel entrance, it got a bit of sun which suited us fine, my sisters room was around the corner 433 but her balcony over looked the hotel air con plant which was rather noisy 24hrs aday. The food was excellent although don't have the bacon, restraunt staff were very good. A large beer (about a pint) was 5,600 dinar £2.50 and a can/bottle of pop was 2,700 dinar £1.20 so you may wish to consider the all inclusive option, we did not. sun beds at the pool, you have to either give the pool man a big tip or get up early about 6:30 to get good beds (especialy if you want 6 together), but it does say in the hotel book this is frounded upon. Animation team worked very hard to keep everyone entertained day & night, but some shows were a bit boring. the building work is at first noticable but soon bleds into the back ground.overall this was a good value for money holiday but I am not convinced that it is a 5 Star hotel having stayed at other 3 &4 star hotels in Tunisia.I would be happy to answer any questions you have about the hotel or resort.

We stayed one week at Riu Imperial Marhaba. We found out that “Marhaba” means “welcome” and indeed everything in this hotel welcomed us- from the reception to the beach.
The personnel are very helpful and they do everything to please you. The room was very spacious and it has a lot of shelves and drawers. It was the first time when we had enough space to put all of our things. We had a nice balcony with a side see view. The construction work did not bother us at all. There was almost no noise. Everything was spotless.
First night we arrived late, because of the flight time table, and they brought us cold plates in our room. The food was very good and very nice arranged.
We eat only in the main restaurant, the one near the reception. The food was very good, tasty and varied. Each night they had a different theme- for example Italian food, or Tunisian food and the waiters were dressed accordingly. The waiters were very nice with us and we tipped them not because they asked for it, but simply for treating us so good.
For our last supper they put on our table rose petals and a beautiful floral arrangement.
I loved the fact that they had 4 elevators- all glass made, so every time we took the elevator we enjoyed the view. The beach was very nice and cleaned and the water was very warm.
We went in two trips one in Tunis and one in Matmata. We only stayed in Tunisia for one week, so was not enough time to make the two days trip in Sahara. We went by a tourist taxi and the driver was also our guide. He told us what to visit and he explained a lot of interesting things about Tunisia. We booked the trips at the reception. If you would like to make trips like this, asked for Mr. Adel. You won’t be disappointed.
We loved this hotel and we definitely go back.

Just returned from the imprial Marhaba. This was our 2nd visit to Tunisia our first was too Hammamet.
We found the Hotel rooms spacious and clean, the beds were hard but i still slept well. It was nice to have the toilet and bathroom seperate from one another. The rooms are carpeted so there is little noise. We stayed on the 1st floor with a sea view. The view was good we could see the building work but it wasnt a problem as we were in the centre of the hotel room 155. The room airconditioning was good in the 40 degree heat.
The food at breakfast time was repetitive tunisia cant do bacon or sausage, so it is eggs, crepes , cold meats and cheeses, fresh bread and cakes.
The food at lunch was more varied different hot and cold dishes and deserts.
The dinner menu was excelent with brilliant tunisian dishes, there was always something everyone could eat including pizza, chips, lasagne, steak, fried fish, chicken if your not adventurous. t
the pool area was clean and spacious, there wasnt lots of young children. The animation team play music and games from 10 am to 5pm. They are very friendly not pushy and excellant at their jobs. My wife got stung by a jelly fish and one of the team put tomato on the sting and it had gone within the hour each day afterwards he made a point of asking how she was.
The beach is nicer than hammamet very clean and no seaweed, there were a few tiny jelly fish. There are lots of beach activities paragliding 35 dinar for 2 people. Jet skiis. Ringos about 15 dinar a go.
The evening entertainment is not what you get in ibiza and can get boring . The karaoke was the most entertaining it was like eurovision, russians, dutch, belgians, rumanians and of course english. The hotel is multi national and the entertainment team are multi lingual so the english are included.
Tipping, in tunisia the average wage is 400 dinar a month so the tunisian hotel staff are very happy if the are tipped. i gave the pool man 20 dinar and he put our 4 towels our each day in the spot we wanted with a umbrella and table.
We travelled by taxi to port el Kantaoiu 4 dinar each way. it is a nice clean modern marina lots of shops, restaurants and an irish bar. Not that lively its not majorca. It is nicer than Hammamet and you feel safe and not hasselled.
We travelled with thomsons and as before had excellant rooms and no hassle the flights were about 30 min delayed there and back.
I would go again but at the end of september when the temperatures are about 27 degrees not 40

I took my mum to Tunisia for a week for her birthday, and thanks goodness we ended up in this hotel, some of the other ones we saw on the way in from the airport looked rather grubby and run down. We were pleasantly suprised when we arrived at the Riu Imperial, impressive entrance, very cool and open, and very friendly staff. The room was clean and we had a lovely sea view. The food is fine, no complaints, and on all inclusive basis you can eat at either the resuarant, or at the bar food area, although the food down there wasnt up to the same standard. Nightly entertainment wasnt up to much, and if i had been there with friends or my boyfriend i think we would have been very bored, as it was i was with my mum so we were just after a relaxing break - we did visit the nightclub which was ok but the drinks are expensive. Was disappointed with the Sahara experience (we travelled with thompson) the rep wasnt honest about what we could expect so it didnt live up to our expectations, although i would recommend it as it was great to see the Sahara - lots of travelling on a coach though, so be aware of that. Also worth visiting the Souk in Sousse, great fun bartering with the locals.
There was building work going on which started early in the morning, and it was bothersome, but you kind of get used to it. I dont think i could have coped for two weeks though. Be careful if you go for a massage in the hotel, as they tried to overcharge us! All in all though, a fab hotel, great staff and reasonably good food. Not much to complain about really - i would recommend this hotel, but not if you want an action packed holiday with buzzing nightlife.

We have just returned from two weeks at the Imperial Marhaba hotel in Tunisia and although we had a lovely holiday, there were some problems you should be aware of.
Firstly, the building work IS a problem. Work starts at 7.30am every morning, even on weekends, and goes on until 5.30pm. Although it won't bother you much during the day, the morning banging is horrendous. The scale of the bulid is massive - 3 story's high, 50 meteres long and about 30 meteres wide, with a massive crane in the middle. It blots the landscape dreadfully and you simply can't escape it.
The hotel itself was quite nice - very clean, light and airy. The reception is lovely and the terrace is gorgeous with resin wicker chairs and low coffee tables for evening drinks.
The food was Ok and my advice is to stick to the show cooking and the Tunisian dishes, as these are made fresh and taste nicer. The waiters are all very friendly, but of course they are looking for a big tip at the end of the holiday, and on the last night, they decorate your table with flowers and petals to make sure you do leave a tip!
The puddings are very sweet and often look better than they taste, but the fruit is lovely, especially the melon and plums.
The cooked breakfast is horrible, so best to stick to the crepes and pastries, or the freshly cooked eggs.
The rooms are kept well clean and our cleaner often made swans from the towels and sprinkled rose petals over the bed, which was a lovely touch.
If you want a sunbed with a parasol, then be prepared to get up at around 6.30am every morning, or tip the pool boy to reserve them for you! By 7pm, all the good beds are gone. If you've got kids, then this is especially important as the sun was very hot when we were there in July, and you really do need to keep them in the shade for a few hours.
The Animation team did a good job, but not our thing at all! Music is played all day from 10am at the pool by the animation team and it is REALLY REALLY LOUD! If you have a toddler who needs an afternoon nap, then this is not the place for you!
We have 3 kids and although they are catered for, I think this hotel is better suited to young couples. It is also very geared up for the all-inclusive guest, and I would guess about 90% of the guests were AI. We were Half board but this was OK as the food was plentiful.
The best food was served at the bar by the beach - fabulous spaghetti and lasagne. It's also very quiet as the AI guests do not go there as its not part of their package.
The beach was gorgeous and if you want some peace, then this is the place for you. There is also no mad rush to book the seats at the beach as most people tend to stay by the pool, so its nice and quiet.
Water sports are numerous and we all had a go on the parachute, jet ski and Big mable - a big sofa pulled behind a speed boat!
The hotel was much further away from the Marina then we thought, and the walk of about 30 minutes in the heat did get a bit much.
Overall we had a good two weeks, but were a bit disappointed with the food and hated the building work. We will not be going again, but glad we went as waking up to blue skies every day was wonderful!

I am 17 and my boyfriend is 19. We have just returned from a week at the Hotel RIU Imperial Marhaba. The hotel is beautiful. Food is good, rooms are nice, beach lovely and staff are nice and helpful. Not a 5* though. But there is absolutely nothing to do at night! We found ourselves going to bed at 9 and watching tv. It may be more suitable for older couples or families. At the hotels private beach there are an abundance of watersports at a very reasonable price. If you like the beach and the sea or even the pool, you won't be stuck during the day. But at night it is a different story! The entertainment is pathetic, the nightclub is rubbish and there is no pleasant and upbeat atmosphere at the bars at night. I definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel for young couples or older teens!

We have just returned from the Rui Imperial Maharba, and just wanted to say what a wonderful hotel it is. The building work is certainly not a problem. The staff are excellent, and plenty of choice with the food, the only down side is that there is a problem with the AC in the main lobby which the hotel are aware of. The rooms are not effected though which was a welcome relief from the heat. Word of advise - if you want a sunbed guests are 'reserving' them from as early as 6.30 am, there were some available if you asked the pool attendant he did his best to find you one. Overall a lovely relaxing holiday and would return.
