We stayed for a fortnight from the 15th April 2012. Arrival into the airport went fairly well and we were out of the airport pretty quickly, landed at 9am and were at the hotel at 10.40am.

On arrival our room was not ready but we headed off in search of coffee and a look around. We were allocated room 337, but were not happy as the room is above the main atrium and we were very concerned that it would be noisy, so went back and spoke to the guys at reception and were upgraded to a suite, number 2240, which was really lovely, we had a separate room with a corner seating area, twin beds and tv as well as the main bedroom etc. Our mini bar was kept nicely stocked as we made a request on the days we wanted it to be filled, as stated in the welcome letter we received on arrival. Thank you so much for the upgrade it was fab.

We had stayed in February at the Riu Palace Marhaba in Hammamet and were a little concerned that this hotel would not live up to the palace, well we had no reason to worry, both hotels are well run, have superb friendly staff who cannot do enough for you (not sure how a previous reviewer could describe 90% of them as rude, we didn’t come across any one who was rude, apart from some of the guests staying here!!). We were actually very sad to have to say goodbye to so many of the wonderful staff who make this place so special. Big hello to Latifa in the main bar and Abdulaziz, Mejda and Nourradine in the restaurant.

The food is all buffet style, but drinks are served to your table during meal times, we thoroughly enjoyed the food, it was always fresh, the hot food was always hot and there was always an excellent variety, we always found something really good to eat, in fact we found that there was far too much choice at times, decisions, decisions!!

Bar service inside is good, you just take a seat and the drinks keep coming, the staff are very efficient, the only time we struggled to get a drink was in the quiet bar, where they often only had one staff member working (it needs at least two in our opinion).

The pool area is lovely and the pool/sunbed guy is a star, it did get quite busy during our stay, so we do wonder how easy it would be to sit there during the summer when the hotel is far busier. The beach was nice and the water was very clear by the time we left, my husband did go swimming but it was still pretty chilly in April!

There is a nice beach bar/restaurant and they started to serve lunch there the day before we left, which was lovely, as Brits we rarely get the chance to sit alfresco to eat, so it was a real treat. It was also pretty good fun watching the Manager cooking Paella!!

The hotel was absolutely spotless, we even saw cleaning supervisors checking the top of paintings for dust, needless to say they didn’t find any!!

We have read many of the negative reviews on tripadvisor and really do wonder if these people did actually stay at this hotel, some of the things that have been written are utterly ridiculous. This hotel is a 5* in Tunisia, so therefore may not live up to 5* hotels elsewhere in the world, but having travelled extensively and stayed in some fantastic places we would definitely say that this place lives up to it’s Tunisian 5 star rating.

All in all a wonderful holiday and we will most certainly be paying another visit, and soon!!

An exceptional hotel with exceptional staff save for a couple of the restaurant managers who were unpleasant and rude on two occaisions. Undoubtedly a 5* hotel. Our score would have been the highest had it not been for a very unsaisfactory breakfast on our early departure - a continental breakfast with very limited choice, stale rolls , no coffee and no sevice at all (no table clearance and no replenishment of foods). Would we go again - yes almost certainly. A caution though - it took almost 2 hours to clear immigration and reception at the hotel was a bit slow though they did provide a 'welcome drink'.

We had a lovely winter break in March at this hotel, the staff were just fabulous could not fault them. The food was always hot and there was always something good to eat. The rooms were spotless. We had wonderful weather although the week before had had terrible weather which had wrecked the beach and they were clearing up the week we were there but you could still use it. The sea and pool were too cold to use as too early in the season. The indoor pool was heated so would cool off in there and back to the sun bed to sun bath.

The spa was great enjoyed the half day there using all the facilities for only 80 dinar including a massage. Looking to book again for next winter sun.

We went to the harbour to shop which was pretty and good for bargains. Went to the Zoo and Zulu night with Thomson would not recommend this if you are an animal lover and as for the Zulu night CRAP do not go. This was the only thing that marred this holiday.

Will defiantly use this hotel again.
Flights with Thomson were excellent, brand new plane, took off on time, only 2 ½ hour flight.

Just returned from 10 days at the Riu Imperial and I have no idea where the reviewer below was staying but saying the staff at this hotel are rude - is just totally wrong! The staff were to a person very helpful, very personable and never rude.

As for the mini-bar we were told by the Thomson's rep at the Welcome Meeting that you had to ASK for the mini bar to be refilled - which we did and it was done immediatly!

The food we thought was excellent for choice and for temperature! There was always some Tunisian dishes on the menu (something different every day!). If you were looking for British food (which we were not) you could get that as well.

Five stars in Tunisia, Spain etc IS NOT the same as staying at a 5 star hotel in the UK - surely people understand this by now - reading the review below obvisously not.

The downsides of our holiday were to do with the airport and NOT the hotel. We would certainly stay there again.

Arrived in Tunisia, together with 3 to 4 other flights at the same time ( this is usual apparently)
spent the next 1hr 50 waiting to go through passport control, then another 10 minutes trying to find luggage carousel as the flygt number had gone off the screen, I could go on and on,
Hotel kept us waiting for our keys for a long 45 mnutes in reception, now we are fed up.
Hotel its self absolutely no complaints it made up for the poor start we had.
Food was lovely all week, rooms very clean and spacious, a good standard as always for a RIU hotel.
Location is a little to remote for my liking, surrounding area around the hotel wasnt that good for a stroll and you need to be aware of constantly being hasseled in EL Kantoui. All in all would I go back to Tunisia !!!!! NO
