“Loved it and going back”
Reviewed January 12, 2011

I went here last November ,first time in Tunisia and do not have a bad thing to say, the staff were wonderful food plenty of choice rooms were big and very clean.Beach was great as was the choice of pools, yes its good to tip as there wages are so low but I was never made to feel I had to.We loved it so much we are booked to go back in Feb for ten days.I did not consider the price I paid for the holiday was a lot and was pleasantly surprise to see we were staying in such a nice hotel.

after reading some of these reviews i wondered if i was in the same hotel all i can think that these people were comparing to european holiday resorts.I found the service excellent in the restaurants and bars even laying on the beach the waiters came down to get drinks for us also al staff seemed very friendly .The hotel was spotless they had a cleaner outside the toilets all day to keep them clean .Only little down side our room wasnt ready when we arrived but we went in for dinner. The food was good always something different and a chef cooking something fresh and fried eggs and pancakes cooked fresh

The best thing about the hotel was the clean and deserted beach (although it was New Year when we were there so it was only about 15 degrees!). We avoided breakfast after the first day, because it was so horrendous. The food wasn't great and you had to fight lots of people in shellsuits to be able to get anything vaguely worth eating. Lunch was more tolerable, and dinner was better.

The gala night on New Year's Eve was really good actually. The food was excellent and there was some brilliant dancing. The animation team put a lot of work into it and seemed to entertain the masses pretty well.

The hotel itself was alright, a bit tired, but generally quite clean. It didn't entirely live up to its description, however. We never found the "fitness centre" - other than the indoor pool. The worst thing is probably the staff. The cleaners are so loud that they wake you up every morning shouting and laughing outside your door. They will then often come in unannounced and take your towels (while you're lying in bed confused, and unable to then shower until after lunch when someone finally makes up the room and returns "clean" - they sometimes smelt of smoke - towels). The people on reception were mostly unhelpful. They refused to ring and get us transfers back to the airport. They wouldn't help us get breakfast delivered to our room (which we would have paid a supplement for). etc etc.

The bar staff were alright, but a bit over-friendly in the end. They would get annoyed if we wouldn't sit at the bar and talk to them and when we refused to join them for a drink after work. We got very fed up of constantly being harassed by the waiters. While we expected that we might get attention in the rest of Tunisia, we expected it to be safe in our hotel.

Overall, it was fine for a last minute getaway, but otherwise best avoided.

From now on i will not believe all the reviews i have read on here the hotel was clean the food was plentiful breakfast eggs 5 ways bread always fresh breakfast for all countries yeah there where alot of oldish people yeah there where a lot of people from other countries so what most were a good laugh. lunch and dinner where similar but always hot and so much to choose from the staff earn about 5 quid a day so dropping them 50p every now and then goes a long way.the pool was clean the beach was perfect where can you get a jet ski ride for 20 quid the evening entertainment was so bad it was funny we where just going in to see how bad it was At around 10 pm the restaurant opened again for late night snacks turned out to be another dinner result. The drinks in the bar good being a non drinker most of the year made a complete pig of myself only went for a week good job really or we wold have com back alcoholic fattys

Where shall I start. I was dissapointed by Thomas Cook from the begining. Even after booking at Thomas Cook local Branch, I was not seen by their rep and left alone. Reception staff speaks very little English. Hotel was full of French,Russian retired people. Loo was stained and after repeated request nothing was done. Food was repeatitive with no seasoning and will suit only to the refugee. During meal waiter will not come to you unless you give them tips. Only indoor simming pool was through a large ,dark corridor of staff residence, very creepy. No hand tissue, electric kettle or tea/coffe making facilities in room(standard for to be a 4 star). No nearby good restaurant to have meal( also very expensive-22 dinar(10 pounds) per person).

Only good thing about the hotel is that they have given me surprise birthday cake. Hotel was next to a nice clean beach. I have enjoyed Port-El Kantoui but not the hotel.

Just arrived back from 7 great days and nights at the El Maouradi. We went as a party of 8, made up of 5 adults, 2 teenagers and 1 child and found something to do for us all. Weather was not blue skys for 7 days, but at the end of October it was pretty good.

Found all the staff very friendly and always happy and wanting to help. Facilities were clean, with plenty of choice's at meal times.

Family enjoyed it so much they are all ready planning a return and we only landed back 10hrs ago.

I've read a number of poor reviews on here about this hotel and really can't understand how anybody could take issue with it. Yes, it's advertised as 4* but the truth is that it's probably a 3*. We stayed there from 3 Oct 10 until 16 Oct 10 and really enjoyed it. We arrived around lunch time and because the room wasn't ready they asked us to go in for lunch. Our room was available by the time we had finished. The room was as you would expect - two single beds, shower and bath and a balcony. The room was made up every day by the maid and linen changed once a week. The only problem we found with the room was that the mattresses were very hard and could do with upgrading and did prevent us getting a good nights sleep

The choice of food at breakfast, lunch and dinner was good, it was hot, it was well presented, there was plenty of it, there was plenty of choice (at least 2 vegetarian meals at both lunch and dinner) and even me as an extremely fussy eater found enough to eat to keep me happy and content. And if you want to stay on the beach during the day (only 50 metre walk) then they serve pizza and/or chips at lunch time

Everywhere was spotlessly clean, maids worked all day, inside and out. The beach was cleaned every night (there are plenty of rubbish bins but people are to bone idle too use them)

There are two large pools, both of them cleaned each morning, there are plenty of sunbeds and mats (although you do have to pay 2 dinar per mat - if you just want the sunbed there is no charge)

Now, if you think it's all good well I'm going to have to make a negative comment about the Animation Show in the evenings - it was SO bad it was almost good, and very few people stayed round for long to listen to it.

There are a lot of other nationalities there as well, the French are just rude wherever they are, as are elderly Germans, the Italians are loud...really loud so be warned if you're looking for a sunbed within shouting distance of them because they will spoil your day (this of course isn't a criticism of the hotel it's the natural order of things wherever you go)

There were a large number of elderly people there and one could be excused for thinking you had walked onto the screen set of Cocoon (maybe it was the time of the year and not as hot as peak season)

Both my wife and I enjoyed our stay there and I would definately recommend it for anybody thinking of doing in 2011. One point worth noting if you go later in the year the air conditioning is switched off on the 15th Oct and our room was extremely hot and uncomfortable
