“this hotel looks very tired”
Reviewed July 2, 2010

Hotel very clean but shabby and tired looking. Was once probably a very nice hotel but needs some money spending on it. No way is it a five star.3*would be a better and fairer rating. When you actually sit at the front doors of the hotel and look at the splendid moorish plasterwork and architecture it is fabulous but it needs some tlc.ie a lick of paint front and rear. Staff very helpfull and polite.Rooms cleaned and linen changed every day.Food hot and plentiful good variety. This hotel is not a patch on the Imperial or the Kenz. Having stayed at both of these hotels do feel able to make a comparison.

Well, what can I say, we booked through Expedia / Just Sunshine and should have been staying at the El Mouradi el Mahdia. Thank god that they were fully booked and we stayed at the Palm Marina instead!
Firstly, the hotel is exceptionally clean, with daily maid service who are always chuckling and very friendly. Pool was clear and poolside was spotless.
The waiters at the bars and resturant were unbelievably friendly and polite, always happy. Worth learning some arabic which they will help you with, as they seemed to appreciate it, unlike the Germans we saw who never said thank you!
The buffet was a tad samey after a week, but food quality was good, check out the Tunisian specialities for the stuffed vegetables and spicy meat dishes. Also advise trying the omelettes for breakfast or like me, indulge yourself with pancakes and chocolate sauce.
The hotel also put on the world cup matches, and we even got table service whilst watching.
Highly recommend the Friday Night beach party, basically a BBQ on the beach, show, drinks included until 11, then a disco.
Worth getting a seaview as the views overlooking the pool to the sea were amazing.
Hint - if you tip the pool waiter, very handsome masculine (!) version Ronaldo lookalike, he'll keep you plied with cocktails all day! Also worth tipping the pool attendant, and he'll reserve you the best sunbeds by the pool every day. Tips usually about 2 dinar (£1).
All in all we had an excellent holiday, great staff, great food, beautiful hotel and would certainly go back to this very same hotel again, no question.

Amazing hotel, all inclusive and the staff constantly asking us if we would like another drink. Loved the strawberry juice! Cocktails very strong so maybe ask for a slightly weaker one! Water polo, bowls, mini golf, dance lessons - couldn't ask for more going on during the days. Lovely huge pool. Food gorgeous! Nothing to do in town don;t bother going. Market really good but they are extremely pushy and we got held in a shop at one point so be careful. We paid a lot for the holiday (£2,000) so we expected quite a lot and we got more than we could've asked for. Right on the beach too which is also gorgeous. Night entertainment excellent.

The hotel is a little tired in places but on the whole very good. The food can be repetitive and is not of 5* quality but is appetising enough. The hotel is not used to catering for people from the UK i.e no bacon! The room we had was clean and spacious as was the bathroom. We only saw the maid once (towels and sheets changed daily) and that was by pure accident. The staff were very hospitable with the exception of the guy who does the booking for the once a week restaurant meal - he looked as if he had been sucking lemons!! The piano is a no smoking bar and also the restaurant is no smoking. You are entitled to a free 30 minute massage per week and need to book this with guest relations. We just did not get around to booking it. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby and it is around a 30 - 40 minute stroll on the beach into the port - prices here are about the same for beer and coffee as what you would pay in UK. On the whole a very enjoyable holiday for the price we paid. Will definitely go back to Port El Kantaui but will probably stay at the hotel we first stayed at several years ago which is next door to El Mouradi Palm Marina and that is the Marhaba Imperial. We were advised by another couple who go to P el K every year that they stay in the Royal Kenz which is dedicated to the UK and strictly no one under 18 is allowed to stay in the hotel. (They had come with their very young grandchildren this holiday hence the El Mouradi Palm Marina and not the Royal Kenz). All in all we really enjoyed Tunisia - one thing - we never got pestered for tips or overly friendly waiters expecting the same - very different from Egypt!! We had one trip out to Carthage and Tunis and we had a very knowledgable guide - an enjoyable day out.

Hotel is well located on a very nice beach. The staff are all very friendly and obliging with not too much "tip hunting". The rooms are large and comfortable but can be noisly if over/near the disco. Food in the buffet is generally good with plenty of variety though could probably do with a bit more variety for children. Pools large but cold but plenty of space and not too much sun-lounger hogging though if you tip the pool assistants up front they will reserve beds for you for the week. The hotel offers a free trip to a local market and then carpet factory which is not worth the effort,. The hotel is not 5 star by business hotel standards but is a very good tourist/holiday hotel.

PeK does not have a great deal other than the sun and beach, but it is only 30 mins from the airport and it is probably worth using a taxi for transfers rather than paying extra for a shuttle bus.

Please someone who has visited the hotel El Mouradi Palm Marina (located on the site near Port El Kantaoui), if the handler does not contact the mattress by the pool outside the hotel? His name is Mohamed, brings people to the mattress beds, age 26 years, wears a shirt that says "Lifeguard" or "Polo". For any contact (preferably by telephone but) thanks too!

Otherwise, i recommend this hotel to all, we liked very much! Everything was at number one! Great food, great care personnel, all clean, tidy, helpful and very nice people where you just look!

Had a wonderful relaxing holiday in palm marina, excellent value for price we paid E534 for 1 wk all inclusive. B/B lunch/dinner/snacks/drinks/coctails all day long.Rooms a bit tired looking, but sure you only sleep there, beds very comfortable,sheets/towels changed daily. pool/beach faboulous, beach towels provided, for a refundable deposit, sun beds free, Food good, lots of selection, especially salads, not big selection of fresh fruit, beach bar for lunch, excellent..... 1 dinner in theamed restaurant per wk included, food excellent there. Staff all very friendly, we were treated very well, and we always tiped the staff which i think is a BIG help, they always remember the GOOD tipers, and sure there was nothing else to spend your money on, as ITS ALL INCLUSIVE! Entertainment excellent, from water aerobics, vollyball, archery, and evening entertainment, something for everyone, and also a fab non smoking Piano bar, to sit and relax in in the evenings,.....OH.... and a disco too. This is our second time staying here and we will be back. sea view room is extra but WELL WORTH the VIEW.
