“Not what we expected”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

The hotel is nice enough, nice big pool and really nice beach and we had a really nice superior sea view room but the food in the hotel was terrible, including the 3 a la carte restaurants. My boyfriend and i went on holiday, he found wire in his chicken and the chef just said sorry and didn't really care or seem worried at all. The sausages were full of gristle and fat and were revolting, the mince for the spaghetti was ground down so much and had bones in it! The staff were very rude and wouldn't serve your table unless you tipped them enough. The staff did not speak very good English and I found it very hard to communicate in french throughout our whole stay. the whole area of Tunisia (not in the hotel) was dirty the taxi's were all disgusting, the people who live in Tunisia have no respect, haggling all the time and not letting you past blocking your path and even grabbing your arms to get you in their shops, then when we didnt go in they shouted abuse at us!! very scary
I would never ever return to this country because of this, even the quad bike and parasailing staff on the beach hassled us and that was in the hotel!!

I personally will never be returning to the palm marina me and my boyfriend do not recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Superior sea view room was really nice and spacious beautiful view of the beach from the balcony.

It was our first visit to Tunisia, but not first visit to african ground so we didnt know what to expect realy. Our agency made a wrong reservation and we end up in different hotel,so after claim we have been moved in our Palm Marina at last.Desk manager and all staff ,because of mistake of our Serbian agency, gave their best to make it nice in the hotel and room that we get it was- WONDERFUL!Our holiday was great from the fist moment in the Palm Marina! We compete in archery, table tannis, darts, water basket and we really enjoy and have fun as never before. My son Maki came home with 6 diplomas and me with 3,ola la!My mom was dancing twist like in younger days with animation guy and really they get wilde!!
Management, entertainment team, waiters, cleaning stuff, cooks, are giving them all to wishes of the guests 100%.24 hours somebody is there for you and without tired look, with smile and nice talk.Swimming pool is beautiful as inside pool so you dont have time enough to be on the beach in the sea,and in the pools in one day because the animation team is getting always some nice ideas so 24 hours is not enough for joy in Palm Marina. You have everything in the hotel so first time we try it all and didnt have chances to go in site seeing and trips in Sahara...this we left for second time when we come for sure..very soon! Two weeks is not enough so my son and mom definitely decide to stay 21 day or more and room 606 is our favorite! In piano bar my son was having a piano session thanks to main manager of Palm Marina and even he is 11 years old everybody was enjoying it ,so we find there a lot of similar lovers of classic music'-I told you, this hotel have all you need from the classic to techno parties on the beach...
Professional staff which is carrying for for your needs, wonderful garden with singing birds and fontain, food is great and keep it like that tunisian style-fresh fish every night!!!Keep your style in cooking and making your crispy tunisian cakes !
I have big respect for Tunisian people and their religion so we tourists should learn something from them.
All the best to all animation team and DJ from my son Marko-Maki ,and see you soon Lana and Naki!

My boyfriend and I went for 7 nights, we stayed in a superior-sea view room, which was gorgeous, large and clean. There was a separate toilet which unfortunately did smell very stale when we first arrived-the drains unfortunately did seem to be a problem throughout the hotel. Overall, considering the price we paid going through Secret Escapes, we would both say it was worth the money. However, the food was not great. The meat was extremely overdone all the time, sometimes too tough to even cut and most of the food was either far too salty or far too sweet. Also the cocktails were almost undrinkable. The beer/gin and tonics were ok but hardly anyone seemed to touch the wine.

The service was extremely mixed. The 'animation' guys were incredible, they worked hard every day to provide great entertainment and were always smiling and cracking jokes. The maids/porters were friendly and helpful if you ever needed anything. The service everywhere else was appalling. No smiles (ever), when you said thank you there is no recognition, poor eye contact, which gave a general sense of being a nuisance to them. A couple of times my boyfriend and I asked for timings of activities or excursions and without a word the member of staff would just point at a board with more information. Once we were just told to read a ticket we had been given at the beginning of the stay.

I was also short changed when converting my money-we were warned this can happen so do check!!

Finally Sunshine holiday's rep forgot about us when picking us up for the airport home! The coach was pulling away earlier than planned and we had to run after it. All in all, great beach, great weather, great room and good value but if you get easily annoyed by poor service or bland food don't go!!

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor above the basement disco can be disturbed by music

Dear Customer,

We read your review posted on Tripadvisor and after your visit to El Mouradi Palm Marina.

We note the points that did not meet your expectations, despite of the fasting month which end at the 10th of August had a little influence on the faces; the staff is really doing their best to make everyone happy.

We hope to welcome you back soon at El Mouradi Palm Marina in better circumstances.

Thank you so much for making our honeymoon one to remember. Anyone who rights poor reviews on this hotel must just be a bitter, twisted, grumpy stuck up individual. The staff go out of their way to please the guests even if you had a concern or problem (which we didn't) it would be sorted straight away without any hassle. There was always different main dishes in the resturant to choose from with a huge variety of salads and hot veg. If you don't like to try the tunisia food (which less face it why go to another country for English) this was not a problem as just to mention a few they had Spag bol, chicken & veg Pie, Fried Chicken , chips, pizza, Chicken and fish goujons, mash potatos, cauliflour cheese and thats just a few examples for the fussier eaters the other dishes are mild in flavour so nothing hot or spicy but very very tasty with a vaiety of meats and fish and always rice, pasta or potato hot and cold to have along side. The BBQ outside restaurant may cater a little more for the typically english dishes then the main restuarant for those who want to explore more. The al le cart meals are a little touch and go but not awful. Lebeniese and BBQ was lovely tunisian was a little dry. Only slight problem was they served in courses to when everyone in the sitting had finished one and when you have a 7pm start time and people can't be bothered to show up until 8pm you did have to wait for them to catch up before everyone got their next course. But in my eyes this is the diners fault not the staff! Every where is clean and tidy. The bedding and towels smelled fresh and were soft and white. You could get food and drink 24hours a day! Now thats impressive! Lovely clean pools and beach area. There's no laying towels on sun loungers before 8.30am. Rooms are lovely and clean. the odd drains smell come and go but thats not the hotels fault and they are happy to move anyone rooms if needed. Room service was clear if you read the manuals in the room. If you wanted anything changed there was a sign to put on the door for it. Towels is simple you want them changed leave them on the floor if you're happy to use them again hang them back up! The air conditioning is a little old but enough to take the edge off and did the trick in the evenings once the sun had gone down. My only warning is don't do the market. It's a horrid experience to buy stuff that the Lovely Saife (we love and miss you Saife!) sells in the hotel shop for half the price they haggle and bully you for at the market. The alcoholic drinks & cocktails are what you ask for and if you don't ask they are strong lol If you like to taste the mixers in your drink ask for a small measure once they know you will never have to ask again. The memories of the hard working smiling bar & waiting staff is amazing! They make the most amazing pancakes for a 4-6 snack but with one chef and very slow cooking equipment you do have to que and wait for them which could be frustrating when some rude people think they can walk straight up infront of everyone waiting and demand to be served! Ice cream 2-4pm is delicious!!The only things that let this hotel down are simply out of their hands. Rude, miserable guests that don't deserve to be there. The entertainment is fun and what you make of it. Stuff for all the family. They adore children and have fun with the adults. If you want the royal ballet of a west end musical then go to london and see it at a theatre if you want to laugh and have a good fun group spirit sit back and enjoy the palm Marina team work their magic! The piano bar with live pianist is a nice change too. Entertainment finishes on the stage promptly at 11.30pm then for sleepers all is quiet for partiers it then continues in an underground nightclub till early hours which is great with a good DJ with modern enough music and drinks flowing! late night/early hours pizza is good too! The hotel photographer liked his younger tidy guests and was not so interested in us norms but thats his selling technique floor and I should think his sales suffer because of this. It's how special you make someone feel not how special they may look! The out side tea room is nice and relaxing with free shisha pipes and sweet mint tea to try this was a first for us and lovely! For anyone travelling with justsunshine they are amazing! Great reps with great honest informative knowledge of the hotel, tours and country. We emailed them before our holiday as my husband and I are both Diabetic type 1 and upon arrival everything was in place and ready to cater for us. they couldn't of been more helpful and we appreciated their time massively :) Ignore the stuck up moaners and the close up exagerated bad photos all hotels have wear and tear just like our own homes and go knowing you will have a great time at this hotel!

Room Tip: Superior rooms are lovely and cheap to upgrade! Music finishes pool side at 11.30pm then you just w...

We arrived back yesterday, having booked this via Secret Escapes/Just Sunshine Holidays and it exceeded our expectations.
I note that one reviewer really didn't like the food but he must be extremely picky. There was a good range to choose from every evening to suit the tastes of most people and the salads and desserts were always beautifully presented. Breakfasts included made to order omelettes and crepes, lovely pastries, plus all the usual continental breakfast items. The lunch menu didn't vary much but, again, there was a reasonable choice of foods. The bar below the reception area served beautiful coffee and there were cakes in the afternoon as well as freshly made crepes just outside. We never got as far as booking the a la carte options or the evening barbecue but people we spoke to had enjoyed what they had sampled.
Some friends sampled various treatments in the spa and said they were really enjoyable and very good value for money, especially compared to UK prices.
Our rooms were fairly simple but spotlessly clean with fresh towels delivered every morning. And we had a decent sized balcony with plenty of space for a table and 2 chairs, with views over the pool area and beach. The only slight fault was that we only found one socket - apart from the TV one - so charging Kindles and phones, using hair dryers etc took some planning. (There is a hairdryer in the bathroom but my wife always prefers her own.)
The pool was huge and there was plenty of room for everyone and more than enough sun loungers. There were loads on the beach as well and that's the best place if you prefer a bit more breeze while you're sunbathing. There was non stop waiter service around the pool and, in spite of the heat and not being able to have even a drink of water during Ramadan, the staff were super efficient, had great memories for drink orders and were always cheerful.
In fact all the staff were very efficient and friendly. I did have to ask reception staff for help with one matter and, although you couldn't describe them as warm and welcoming, they were fine with me and sorted things out.
On our final night our regular waiter dressed our table with flowers as a surprise and presented all the ladies in the group with individual blooms. A really nice touch.
Our intention was to have a week's total relaxation and we did. So we didn't get involved in the evening entertainment, as that's not our scene. (I would suggest that karaoke participants get friends or family to give a brutally honest assessment before they leap on stage! One girl was brilliant but some other performances were painful!) But there were a couple of really good guest pianists in the bar, including a little boy who appears to have a brilliant musical future ahead of him.
We would certainly go back to the Palm Marina, especially if we can get such a bargain price again. I've given 4 stars, but only because it's not 5 star by UK standards.

We returned today and would like to thank the wonderful staff, including Hosni and the smiling waiter in the Beach Bar, (hope that's right!) for helping make the week terrific.
Food; VERY TASTY and a massive variety. One reviewer craved a fry-up - remember it is a Muslim country and they don't pork. You can get crepes and omelette cooked for you at breakfast on top of all the other choices.
The hotel has a private beach with plenty of FREE sun beds and I recommend you try parasailing. The pool is fantastic with shallow steps you can lounge on, the room safe is free and on our last day, breakfast was provided at 3 a.m. Free shisha pipes and mint tea are provided in an Arabic courtyard which buzzes with birdsong at dusk.
Entertainment is varied and you can dance outside, (great!) or go to the cellar disco.
Our spacious room was a superior with a stunning beach view. The gym is good and please try the Turkish bath and body scrub in the spa; cheaper than in the U.K. and you can get 20% off.
Between meals, icecream, pizza and choccy pancakes are available - yummy!!
Don't bother with Sousse medina. The area for us was menacing and you will get endless aggro from vendors and conmen. Subsequently, we bought nothing.
In El Moradi hotel, you can easily spend more than a week without venturing out, with endless activities, a huge spa area and treatments to try out and a piano bar among others.
Try this hotel, the best value ever!

Room Tip: Get a superior sea-view room if you can.( Good air-con.)

Great hotel, attentive and friendly staff, lovely room but it was a superior sea view. Yes the carpet is stained on the bedroom corridors but the hotel is perfect for a relaxing stay. Rarely had to go to the bar as waiters knew what you wanted without asking and kept the drinks flowing. Pools really refreshing and not too cold to brave. We're used to the rudeness of the Russians as we holiday in Egypt regularly and they are horrible to the staff but they just carry on professionally. The main restaurant isn't the best but you wouldn't go hungry, the best was the pool restaurant, great salads and great staff. Our waiter round the pool was a credit to the hotel the older guy but cant remember his name but always happy. My favourite place was the cafe at the front of the hotel, Habib worked really hard to make sure you had plenty of mint tea which is delicious and water pipes which were also included in the all inclusive. The date liqueur went down well but the bouka must me about 80%. I've already priced up to go back in October for another cheap relaxing holiday all in all an absolute bargain.
