“SUNNY PLACE, SHADY POOL STAFF”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

The hotel is certainly worth a visit, especially for the golf fraternity , with a PGS course just across the road. Wjilst checking this hotel out on Trip Advisor, some complained about the carpets and decpor. But in reality the is is just a sign of age and constant use as this hotel is really popular. However, the staff were very friendly and efficient and rooms and all areas of the hotel were spotless at all times.
The food was certainly more than acceptablein the main resturaunt , but dont bother booking for the specialist resruraunt as it would seem to be the same food as the main one with staff decked out in Tunisian garb.

The bar staff are very friendly and although it is oonly local beers and spirits for all inclusive packages, they are drinkable.

The recent political problems in the Middle East may have kicked off in Tunisia with the Velvet Revolution , but despite the relatrive calm of the country, the tourism ecomommy has and still is suffering badly. Which is a great pity as the area is very safe.

The pool area and beach are ideal for both couples and families. The only I would give are tip early in your stay as staff remember you and if you pay for a towel depost, get it back the day before you leave as the pool staff all claim that their boss is not around to give you your money back. Very convenient when you are on an early or mid-morning departure. Also a nice little earbner for the pool boys.

If you do want to eat outside the Hotel, a 20 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride to the nearby Port El Kantoui will provide a host of harbourside eateries and plenty of market stalls to buy your holiday trinkets.

Room Tip: Try to get a room higher up if facing the pool.

Stayed in a group of 11 for 4 nights in May, touring around various places using this as a base. Good reception, and lovely rooms -- large, well furnished, and very comfortable (Floor 4 - may have been an upgrade, and certainly very pleasant). Well serviced and extremely clean - and a nice maid! The public foyer area is fine, but the two bars are a little mixed... one with music, one for smokers, but you can sit in the foyer itself of course, and outside. The dining room is huge but OK; it was rather crowded, but the waiters did their best and always sorted out a large table. Generally it is a very busy hotel, but the staff cope well.

I thought the food (all buffet) was good - large choice, some cooked on the spot, with good quality materials. Its possible to make a good 5-course meal here by taking the courses separately - although lots of people were simply piling everything on to one plate which made it look like a dogs dinner! Taken separately - soup and good breads, fish, meat, cheese, puddings, with choices at each course -- all good quality and nice. Wine decent value. Breakfasts fine too - fresh omelettes, dates, etc - amusing to watch the Germans 'secretly' filling their water bottles with fruit juices and making bagette sandwiches for later (oh dear - why do they do that?).

We were out all day, but the grounds were pleasant and the beach sandy and fine. I gather the spa was very good. Comfortable walk to a seaside marina area, with nice cafes and shops. There are some good little shops a short walk right from the back of the hotel -- excellent value for leather hand bags etc, and really nice quality too.

We all enjoyed staying here (after a disastrous hotel in Tunis!), and would happily return. I am not into sunandsand holidays, but it should be Ok for that, and as a base for looking at some of the amazing places in Tunisia it was great - the archaeology of Tunisia is amongst the best in the world, and largely unspolit and almost totally empty of tourists.

Overall, not perhaps a 5* by international standards, but a good 4* for holidays etc - maybe we were lucky with our rooms, but I would happily return anytime. We travelled with VJV and their local agents Aquasun, and were very happy with the Aquasun people.

Room Tip: Floor 4 was good.

Having stayed at the 3* Riviera Hotel in Tunisia 3 years ago (fantastic) we were looking forward to a bit more luxury at this so caled 5* hotel. We were quite skeptial as we read the reviews after we had booked, but we departed determined to give the place a fair chance. So here it goes:-

Airport - Enfidha Airport - chaos as usual..... LONG queues through the security checks - three flights arrived at the same time and at one point there were only 2 points open. Best advice take a book!!

Transfer - approx 35 min transfer. Expect to have heavy hints about tipping your driver after the usual low wage spiel from the rep. We hadn't even changed currency at this point and once the driver realised we didn't have money to tip him our bags were dumped on the pavement at the hotel.

Rooms - definately in need of updating, cramped and a little shabby. However they were spotless and made up daily. We went with the mindset that we weren't going to be in the room other than to sleep so we just went along with it.

Pool - lovely pool, clean and we had no trouble getting a sun lounger even when we had a lay in. The animation team are friendly but to be honest not a lot seems to happen and the repetitive tunes of kenny G on the saxaphone and Richard Clayderman on the piano get a little depressing.

Entertainment - Poor and on the boring side. If you decide to go to the BEST BEACH PARTY EVER for the price of 35 dinar per person please be warned that the "free drinks until 11pm" is a load of crap. Apparently beer, all soft drinks and wine are free until 11. However I asked for diet coke (free at the resort) only to be told I had to pay for this hmmmm great if you are a diabetic. Also the BBQ was bare by the time we had reached the front of the queue.

Food - Heavenly cakes!!! We lived on pasta and rice. Green beans, carrots and cauliflower for breakfast??? NO IDEA!!!!! Poor food to be fair and although we were all inclusive we ended up going to the Port to buy lunch several times.

You will definately find yourself in the minority if you are a Brit at this resort and we found the other travellers to be extremely ill mannered and will happily barge in front of you at meal times and for the lift.

I know the review sounds awful but if you save all year for a 5* star all inclusive holiday then this will be a let down. We did have a lovely time as we decided not to let all the negative aspects get us down and just go with the flow. However we won't be going back and definately would not recommend this hotel. Lets face it some people on here love it, some people hate it. Just take it with a pinch of salt and decide for yourself :-)

Enjoy

Based on one week half board in el mouradi palace. Fabulous hotel rooms are absolutely spotless. Bed linen changed every single day.. floors hoovered, tiles in bathroom, toilet and balcony mopped every day! Food was lovely very well presented for breakfast and dinner although very repetitive choice each morning and evening! Lunch time snacks very cheap in the beach bar right beside the beach which ia only a 2 min walk from the hotel..beach is also spotless and well kept with plenty of sun loungers available! Majotity of the staff are very very nice and will look after u well especially if u give them a small tip on your first encounter with them.. overall a great holiday in the sun!

this hotel is not a bad hotel at all really, i went in june and paid £460 that included transfers and flight on a secret escapes deal which included a superior room and 3 goes in the al' a carte restaurants instead of 1, the rooms are clean, i dont care how dated they are, i'm not there for the decor, the food is very good, loads of choice, how people say its the same i don't know, i mean after 3 days you might see the same dish pop back up but you've seen about 20 others or more first and i suppose there is only so many dishes you can make that caters for masses, deserts are plentiful, i found that if i tipped or not it made no difference as those you havn't tipped will still treat you well on the off chance that your the type to tip at the end of your hols. entertainment is not great but i make my own on holiday anyway, probably is a lot more crowded during school hols and can imagine its a bit different but if your going in term time and your not expecting the Savoy then you'll be all right.

Booked this holiday and were very aware of the mixed bag of reviews.

Check in went ok, bags were delivered to our room very quickly

The room wasn't great, very dated, it was importantly though very clean, with cool air con -- indeed the whole hotel is spotless, we never saw any cockroaches or flies during the whole stay.

The meals are very much the same and you will become sick of the sight of them, especially the recycled cauliflower at breakfast or the chopped up hot dogs.

We went to the al a carte but it was just more of the same..was nice to be waited on but that's all.

The pool is large and clean, downside, sun beds very hard to come by, with most taken by 8am.

The drinks were average -- we initially tried the beer, which was served in plastic cups, until you got to know the waiter, if you tipped him a dinar, then beer in glasses were served, albeit, it must be very weak, we never got close to feeling tipsy. The Vodka however is potent !!

Tipping will make or break your holiday, we tipped the maid, room was spotless, the poolside and beach waiters, they ensured we were looked after, the restaurant waiters, were great and ensured we had a table -- so be aware, tip and you'll enjoy it far more

This is what we tipped

Maid 10dinar

Restaurant Waiters 15 Dinar each

Pool side and beach bar waiters, a dinar per round

Overall we probably spent £60 on tips -- not too much given the service we got.

My overall reason for rating average is the following

Resort is bleak

Standard rooms are very dated, actually from the 70's and desperately need updated -- i'd say the rooms are a very clean 2*

Shops who insist on the hard sell have the opposite impact, some were very rude, with one shouting expletives !!

The hotel waiters only become friendly once tipped, surely tipping is a way of saying thank you, not a way to buy a smile -- the worst ones by the beach bar look at you as if you are scum and stare right through you -- once tipped they change and begin to smile -- very strange.

The evening entertainment was shockingly poor, our evenings were spent playing cards in the bar.

Our holiday was spent mostly on the beach, which we very much enjoyed relaxing, having a dip, cooling down in the lovely see breeze and watching the beach sellers try their best to encourage a sale, watch out though as we seen a few people get stung by jelly fish, very nasty burn like stings.

Overall a relaxing break for us, we wouldn't return to tunisia, next time it'll be 5* in Egypt for us..

Room Tip: Try and get a room upgrade

Stayed at the Palace second week of June, two members of staff at the reception desk were a bit clueless but the rest were very helpful. Our room could have been a bit more up to date but as it was so clean we didn't mind about the decor, lovely view of the pool and we could just about see the sea from our balcony. We had no complaints about the food or the service in the dining room, the only thing that was annoying in there was how rude some of the guests were, no manners whatsoever to fellow guests or to the staff. We enjoyed our beers in the evenings, the entertainment wasn't fantastic but we didn't mind, lovely little walk down to the beach, had nice lunch several times in the beach bar.
The staff at this hotel work so hard, especially in the dining room and the maids, we couldn't fault any of them.
We were a bit weary as it was our first trip to Tunisia, we will be going there again and we will-without a doubt go back too this hotel.
