“Can't decide how to weigh it all up...”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

This is a tricky one, because generally the hotel was good but it had some bad points that just really frustrated us.

Firstly the food was excellent. Best I've ever had in an all inclusive - the Tunisian area especially, I have think about their flatbreads a lot, so for this I couldn't recommend it enough.

The beach is quite nice although the sea was a little bit disgusting at times, but that's not the fault of the hotel really. We didn't bother with the pool (because it was salt water and crowded with loud music) and just went to the beach. We did pop next door for a sneaky look and their beach was beautifully combed and their pool was not salt water and we did feel quite jealous.

Despite being called a spa, it's not a spa at all. You can get a massage in the hotel (which I waited for 2 hours for despite booking and had to rearrange, but it was pretty nice in the end), but of you book any of the other packages they offer apparently they whisk you out to another hotel because there is definitely no spa at Rosa Beach.

I found the animations team a complete chore, I'm sure they were trying, but to be honest it was all pretty dire, and I'm just not that in to that kind of "fun" anyway. Having said this I wouldn't have minded some sort of party event in the evenings, but everything always finished at 10 and then some of the bars shut and we were encouraged to get in taxis and travel for nightlife with the bar staff (which we never did, although it was a kind offer).

The bars had some kind of secret system that I didn't completely understand and I spent quite a bit of time being directed to other bars for vodka/gin/diet coke/wine because they didn't have any, and then watching them pour it out for their more regular customers. If you're willing to spend your holiday making friends with the bar staff then that's great, I'm sure you'll get great service, but I planned to spend it with my friends and partner and therefore that meant I could only get the drinks I wanted about half the time. They were also so incredibly watered down that you could have been swigging direct from a bottle of spirits and still happily been responsible for heavy machinery or young children. We did actually spot them topping up the white wine bottles with soda in the restaurant, which although it wouldn't put me off the hotel, it was certainly added to the sense that we were being shafted in one way or another.

We were with Thomas Cook and the transfer times to and from the hotel was about 2 hours which wasn't ideal. The rep Marina is a nice lady and she will give you a number for the most lovely taxi driver ever (we were in a group of six, so filled his little mini-van).

It's not within walking distance of anything, but taxis are so cheap it really doesn't matter.

All in all, it was fine. If you want better than fine then I'd say look elsewhere, but if you are ok with fine and on a budget then it's really not too bad at all.

This was our 3rd visit to rosa beach, yet again we had an amazing holiday, weather not brilliant but that didn't matter in the least! The wonderful animation team kept us very much amused, with our dear friend Sonya at the helm! The food was marvellous, with something to suit everyone. Room was comfortable and kept clean, staff are very obliging and will attempt to make your stay comfortable and grant most requests that are put to them!
See you all again in April! Xxx

visited Rosa Beach as a couple ,just wanting a peaceful and relaxing holiday.Everything from day one until we left was exactly that!
The staff worked very hard and were always at hand to help, nothing being to much trouble for them. The bar staff, waiters, entertainment team and chambermaids.
The rooms were cleaned daily with clean towels and bedding,in fact the whole hotel in my opinion was very clean. The food was varied and tasty and plenty of it.
We totally enjoyed our week at Rosa Beach and will hopefully return.
Well done to all the staff !!

The Rosa Beach hotel is in Skanes between Sousse and Monastir. It has its own beach which was kept clean and scraped every day. The hotel was a little tired in places but it was January and work was being done to improve it. This would be completed for the main season and it was not intrusive to us. The rooms were kept clean and tidy with fresh towels daily. There are no kettles in the rooms so take your own and includes your own tea and coffee. The restaurant is manned by friendly waiters who constantly busy themselves supplying drinks and keeping the tables clear. Our waiter Yosri was great and looked after us really well. The food was widely varied and very good though not quite as hot as we are used to though a microwave is available so no problems. We found that all food we tried in Tunisia was like this, a little cooler than us English like. The entertainment is varied and enjoyable spurred on by the many guys who organise it and some of them are real characters such as Nino Chermiti who is around getting people to partake in all sorts of games. We really enjoyed our stay and would readily return.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea were quieter

Our first visit to North Africa with the children (13 and 6). I have to say, I was worried - I knew that the star rating system that exists in other parts of the world is somewhat different to the ratings in Africa. The rooms were spacious and clean, and basically furnished - maybe some years ago this would have been considered a luxury hotel even? The pool, proximity to the beach, and communcal areas were OK although again, a little past their best. Food was good and plentiful and lots of lovely little snack stops throughout the day - which is great when you don't always feel like sitting down for a full meal - however, the mentality of people who go on 'all inclusive' holidays took a bit of getting used to. Queues to get anything, and overworked restaurant staff were just a couple of the downsides. For me, what made this holiday was the entertainment team - we are a sporty family and love taking part in all of the entertainments - we danced, did aerobics, aqu aerobics, football, boules etc.The kids club was excellent and whilst our youngest was a bit hesitant to join in, after the first day, it was a battle to tear him away at meal times. The hotel was in easy reach of Monastir - it was great to be able to show the children what 'real life' in Tunisia is like and then get them back to their comfort zone of the hotel! If you're shopping here, drop all of you British pretensions of not liking to haggle - your starting price should be a maximum of 20% of the price that anyone offers you on the streets of Tunisa!! ENjoy!!! Finally, protect yourself and your children against mosquitos ALL DAY LONG - not just in the usual dawn/dusk moments. The mosquitos there are Jurraisic and cause misery!!! If you do get bitten, take a small bottle of white vinegar with you, or take a tomato from the dining room (the locals swear by rubbing raw tomato on the bites - hope this isn't just a tourist joke!!). The local spirits are not nice, and if your a cheese lover, this is NOT the place for you :)

Room Tip: Pool side rooms have a better view than the ones that face the cargo airport and trainline (obviousl...

The hotel itself was gorgeous and the room was beautiful too. Had a lovely view of the pool and beach, even though we didn't pay any extra for it. The food was different every night, but there was always something for everyone. Even the very pickiest of eaters. The maids kept the room absolutely spotless; fresh towels, bed made every night. Some of the maids even put in the extra effort, making swans out of towels and spreading rose petals around the sink.

The Thomas Cook rep was brilliant. Always around and ready to listen. We had a couple of issues and she sorted them almost instantly. She called the doctor for me who was there within a few hours when I got sick and made every effort to help find my boyfriends phone which he lost. Downside is the phone was never returned or handed into reception, even after offering a reward but you get that in Britain too. Went on lots of trips, both with Thomas Cook and private trips with people asking around the hotel. Some of them can be a bit intimidating, but the trips are well worth the money. We rode a camel, went on a pirate ship ride and went quad biking. To be honest most of the private trips were better than the ones organized by Thomas Cook. The locals are incredibly friendly and most of them can speak english pretty well. We paid only 10dn for a horse and cart to take us around the shops all day.

Downside of this hotel is that some parts of it could be very smelly, I think this was because of the seaweed which gathered on the beach faster than it could be moved. It was usually all gone by around 10am though. The one thing that upset me is how Tunisia treats animals, but this was more of a cultural thing than hotel. There were hundreds of stray cats around, even on the hotel and most of which were feral and half starved. A litter of kittens had taken up residence in the bushes and flowers around the hotel, which were fed by guests by the hotel never removed or found a home for them whilst we were there after reporting them numerously. I was half tempted to take them home myself! Tunisia also has a lot of working horses, but their condition varies greatly depending on the owners. Some of the horses were in optimal condition, whilst others were simply bags of bones that were still being worked, even during the hottest parts of the day. One horse was even pregnant to the point of being about to drop the baby, but was still being ridden in the heat.

Overall, I would return to this country and this hotel. Just be wary of who you give your money to and don't be afraid to say no if someone is trying to sell something you don't want. People sell stuff on the beach and they try to take advantage, especially if you're a girl.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view are well worth the extra money.

We stayed during the October school holiday week, the hotel was busy however we did not experience any problems with reserving sunbeds. The entertainment team at the hotel are first class (the best we have encountered on our travels), a big thank you to Sonya & her team for all their hardwork, fantastic daytime activities, Pedro's aqua aerobics & Aerobics, Sonya's yoga & dance lessons & superb night time shows.
We got a great deal for the week & the hotel was good value for money. The brochure stares that the hotel is 4 star, which the hotel & facilities are 4 star however due to poor management & understaffing the service is not 4 star. As I stated the hotel was busy, both the pool & lobby bar were understaffed with only 1 bartender & the speciality restaurants which were very busy with just 3 staff which included the chef! This is not a negative reflection on the staff who were fantastic.
I noted on previous reviews that there was a plastic drinks policy near the pool & beach which I fully appreciate, however drinks were been served in glasses if you tipped, which you can't blame the staff it is an issue which needs to be addressed by the management.
