What can I say about this Resort??
3 weeks before we were due to go on Holiday, we were told by Thomsons that this Hotel was not open and we may need to be moved to another Resort!!!! Then it opened. The night before we left, I read the reviews that had been put on here and though "Oh my God, what have we done?? To be honest was very worried about travelling the next day and being faced with all the problems that people had moaned about. Well....

We arrived at 2am to be greeted by lovely, friendly, smiling staff who offered us Cocktails and promised we would be checked in very quickly as it was late and we had children. 15 minutes later we were shown to our rooms and cases were promptly delivered by the Porter. We had two adjoining rooms decorated nicely and very clean. People had moaned about the standard of the workmanship, and ok maybe its not up to some peoples standards, but is it going to spoil your holiday if the wall is not painted to your expectations??? We quickly found out that we couldn't close our patio door, but as we were on the first floor and it was late we decided to leave it until the morning. We turned on our Air Con and went to bed. In the morning, we had two small puddles of water on the floor. We mentioned it to Reception as we went for breakfast and they immediately went and fixed the problems. No more problems throughout the holiday.

There are three or four different places to eat. The Restaurant, Al Carte, Snack Bar and another Snack Bar on the Beach. Food at everyone of these places is absolutely beautiful. I didn't hear one guests complain about the food in the 2 weeks we were there. They always have a children's buffet section in the main Restaurant. The choice is amazing, the Staff are absolutely delightful. They cant do enough for you. On our last day one of the Waitresses left us flowers on the table at breakfast, lunch and dinner. One minor thing we found was the selection of drinks at poolside, Conference Room and the Snack bar. There was only beer, wine soft drinks and the Cocktail of the day. The main bar at night has a much better choice.

There are the Pools. One is the Activity Pool where your Animation Team are around from 11am - 4.30pm with a range of fun activities for both the children and the adults. The games are great fun. This is also where your children's pool is, the playground and the Water Slides. If you don't like the hustle and bustle of this Pool, then there is the quiet Pool (and I mean quiet on the other side of the Hotel which is also very nice. There are bars at both Pools. Diva Danni, Jazzy Jamie and #Ashtag are brilliant fun and work very hard every day and evening to keep you entertained. My kids (12 & 11) adored them and were very sad to leave yesterday.

The evening Entertainment starts at 8pm with Teatime Live for the kids which for them is absolutely brilliant. Thomson The Dog makes an appearance 6 out of 7 days in the day and evening. Again this is mostly run be Diva Danni, Jazzy Jamie & #Ashtag. There is adult entertainment later in the evening and this was our only disappointment. The shows the Animation Team do are great but the outside shows are not much cop (our opinion). This is all going on in the Conference Hall because the Amphitheatre is still not open, but should be very soon.

We went on 4 trips while we were there. We did Quad biking, Camel Riding, Pirate Ship and Paragliding. All were great fun. We arranged these trips through a man who walks around the Hotel called Sammi. He is cheaper than the Hotel and very helpful and friendly.

On the day of departure we checked out and were told we could have a complimentary room to have a shower when we wished. On our departure, all the staff from Reception and some of the Animation Team were all stood outside to wave us goodbye and ask if we had a great time (which we certainly did)

We overall feel that this Hotel has been given some bad reviews that are unfounded. They are a beautiful bunch of people who cannot do enough for you. They are very friendly, polite and helpful. If you are going here, you will have a fantastic time.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me.

Despite some negative feedback on this resort We took our 4 kids...ages 11,8,6 and 3 years old too this family resort for one reason and that was too have a good time without having to take them on trips and must admit they all enjoyed themselves for a full 2 weeks.
The hotel was nice, the grounds were spacious, lots of quality food...more than enough swimming pools and an indoor pool..on-site spa.It is a FAMILY resort good access all around the grounds for prams and wheelchairs alike you can stop any one of the many managers walking about and speak too them if you need too.

Ive just got back from 2 weeks away with my partner, and 2 daughters aged 8 and 3 on arrival we were greated with cocktails and shortly shown to our room which was beautifal(massive bed) which over looked the pool the room was spotless as was bathroom, fresh towels clean beds mini, fridge but was no bottled water in fridge and had to ask for tea coffee facilties in room which wasnt a problem, air com wasnt workin very well the 2 weeks so didnt sleep well as was really hot. The kids loved the pools and water slides along with party in the pool and other games they play but it is very much same everyday(i put this down to jus opening) I enjoyed the aqua fit and quiz for adults. The evening entertaintment was a major let down, kids disco/games for an hour then a show which is pretty much same every night and shuts around 10.30 although they have lobby bar this shuts around 11.30 with no entertainment. Food was lovely kids ate very well and drinks too, my onli downside is they dont have much alcohol variety every bar serves basic wine vodka and one cocktail of the day and beer only in the lobby were other drinks available but that wasnt much more, this I also put down to jus opening and im very sure after time they will have got up together and improved the majority of stuff myself and others complained about. The thompson reps are so helpful and very friendly and my daughter took a special like to diva danni amd jazzy jamie who were very fun and energetic loved the kids and always made an effort. We had an amazing holiday amd thank you very much

We returned after 1 week at the Skanes Family Resort early Monday morning. Must say we had a great time got what we paid/booked for which was to relax in the sun have some good food and entertainment. The slides and games around the pool kept my 12 year old boy entertained everyday. Then on an evening he played football with other boys his age, evening entertainment not the best but still ok. Some Reps tried really hard others not so keen.
We found beach lovelly and Water Sports very cheap £4 each for the banana boats and the same for go on Camel along the beach, Paraglyding about £12 again really cheap compared to other places we have been. I took my son on quad trip we had quad each and cost £25 each was very enjoyable took bit extra cash for photo. Slides round pool good for all ages. We had leak in room on day of arrival 'aircon' but this was repaired within 15 minutes and no further problems after this. Overall I would recommend this for children may 10 and under as great family resort lovelly food, beach and daytime entertainment.

have just returned from a weeks stay at the family resort. We were very worried by the poor reviews but we had a great time. The hotel was completed apart from some of the gardens, but that didn't matter. The staff were lovely and very friendly. The food was fantastic, great choice and the desserts were to die for !! gained a lot of weight !! We had a family suite which had an upstairs room for the children. The only downside was that the stairs were very steep and there was no air con up there so very hot. The maids work tirelessly so the room was spotless. The design of the bathroom is wrong. The shower is on the middle of the wall so the shower screen doesn't work so water goes everywhere. Apart from that the beds were comfy and we slept well. Plenty of space round the pool and no problem getting sunbeds. The beach is gorgeous, lovely white soft sand. Lots of Russians in other hotels. The only real complaint is the entertainment. Very poor and the same every night. Suitable for little ones but not for teenagers. No shows etc brought in from outside but on too late so we just had a drink and went back to the room and watched TV. The flight was ok but very budget now. No films or TV at all. Basic hot food.
In conclusion we had a great holiday and would definitely go back. Nearly forgot, the waterpark is brilliant

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor overlooking the activity pool and the beach, very quiet and great v...

If I start by saying we always travel First Choice/Thomson as we've found other star ratings (eg. Thomas Cook ) to be over rated ie. say they are a 4 star but really a 3...This is rated as 4* plus in the brochure and I would say this was pretty accurate. I've travelled to lots of different hotels all over the world and must say that Tunisia is one of my fave destinations as weather always fantastic and hotels and food of a great standard. For anyone that's stayed at the Holiday Village Manar in Hammamet which is 5* -The Family Resort is just as good and I believe in time will be better.

I think they have rushed to open-this is evident by the slapdash workmanship in the bathrooms-lots of cracked tiles and grout missing and just little attention to detail but this in no way detracts from your stay. Also some minor works-mainly landscaping as turf not quite taken yet and lots and lots of planting-another year and this place will be unrecognisable and a floral oasis.

We arrived at 11.30 at night and the temp was 23 degrees which gave us an indication of how hot the days would be-up to 38 degrees so take plenty of high factor cream-it is bearable tho as a constant breeze. On arrival at the hotel (takes an hour-don't be put off by the barren landscape and 'beirut' looking towns-this is a poor country, you will not want to explore at night, daytime is ok but don't expect cosmopolitan towns with chic restaurants and bars, more like scruffy shops with fakes in abundance-haggle strongly if you want a bargain.

Got to hotel about 1.00 am, welcome cocktails on arrival and we were urged to visit the restaurant as the chef had put on some food for us however we didn't partake as we were too tired and wanted to get settled in room with our 12 and 6 year old. We would have liked to take our own luggage but had to leave in reception. Check in was very quick.Although our key cards didn't work so we had to re visit and get these fixed (which we had to do numerous times during our stay but a minor inconvenience). Luggage arrived after about 20 mins.We had booked a family room which was supposed to have 2 separate bedrooms each with own tv-what we got was interconnecting rooms on the first floor with a view of the slides pool and the sea beyond. These rooms were great-the children took the larger room (it was massive) with 2 single beds and a double balcony, large and modern bathroom and separate wc-there was loads of wardrobe space-2 double and a single in the room and then a further double in the hallway with lots of hanging space, shoe racks and drawers. There was also a free to use safe, a hairdryer in the top drawer of a very large dresser with more draw storage, a fridge stocked with bottled water and tea and coffee making facilities. A side table, 2 chairs and bedside tables. Our room was slightly smaller but still very spacious with a Queen bed, table and chair, dresser and 2 double wardrobes with all the same facilities as in the other room, we had a single balcony which was small but adequate-neither balconies were suitable for sunbathing but we didn't need this. Both rooms had flat screen TV's. Both bathrooms stocked with plenty of towels which were changed daily (spares also in cupboards underneath the sinks).Only complimentary toiletries on arrival (shampoo, hand soap, bath cap and cotton buds) but shower gel in dispenser on bath wall always filled up. Shaving point in both bathrooms if required. Plumbing can be a bit smelly so suggest take an air freshener. Maids work tirelessly to keep rooms clean and corridors which were mopped several times a day!

Beds very comfortable, lovely soft quilt and plenty of pillows..Air con good although wasn't working in our room-we reported the next day and it was fixed but then didn't work in kids room-altho we reported it several times didn't get fixed an in the end we gave up as breeze enough through balcony door when left open. Reception desk very helpful-I would suggest they have a no. to call on the phones in the rooms tho so you don't have to keep going down to them and can report any issues using the phone-there was one in each room.

Didn't attend the welcome meeting next morning at 10 am as usually just an excursion selling event. Would have been helpful if some literature in room about hotel, restaurants etc but we did eventually get opening times for food pushed under the door.

Breakfast in main restaurant was very good, huge selection of breads, pastries, cereals, meat, cheese and fruit, yoghurts. Hot food stations with freshly cooked fried eggs, omelettes, pancakes, always scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes, fried potatoes, sausages, beans but don't expect bacon. Juices ok and the norm for all inclusive, coffees very nice. Plenty of space to eat indoors but we chose outside as really nice first thing (early risers always at breakfast for 7.30)

Tokens for pool towels and you could also exchange them up to 2 times during your stay which means they were kept reasonably fresh. Hotel facilities were great-Quieter pool with gradual slope at restaurant end with small kids pool, pool bar and table tennis (free, bats and balls from reception), and games room with air hockey and pool tables (payable-2 dinar a go) which were busy at night time. This pool area next to Steakhouse snack bar and access to the beach and beach bar. Beach beautiful, lots of beds and shade, very Caribbean like, white sand and clear calm waters (could walk out at least 100 yards and still only up to your waist) free kayaking and catamaran and lots of payable activities eg camel/horse riding, parascending, banana boat etc.
Very clean. Beach bar good, on tap branded drinks eg cola, Fanta etc, fresh coffees, local spirits, beer very nice. Snacks available -hot dogs and paninis made to order-should imagine in high season you will need to queue for a very long time as only one chef and 2 grills and most people were ordering several paninis at a time, one day I queued over 50 minutes! which was pretty annoying-I suggest they get some more grills set up!

We ate at the steakbar at lunchtime as was lovely-had an outdoor decked area that overlooked the beach-parasols arrived a couple of days into our stay and they were much needed. Always plenty of food choice, fresh made pizzas were lovely, chips, fish, grilled meats, rice and veg, breads and lots of salads. The head waiter here is very friendly and efficient. Good range of desserts, fruit and ice cream.

We sat at slide pool every day-you will need to get up early to reserve beds with shade in high season but not a problem whilst we were there as not hugely busy. Lifeguards will always help with beds and parasols if you ask. Pool areas kept very clean as were the pool altho we did have one day where they were shut for 3 hours as someone had poo'd (this happened every day last year at Holiday Village Aliathon in Paphos!) but they dealt with it extremely efficiently.

Pool slides brilliant entertainment for the kids and adults! also a dedicated tots splash pool with mini slides and water features. Working very hard to smarten this area up with lots of planting and turfing.

Meals at night were themed, indioan, Chinese, French, Italian, Tunisian and gala buffet. Great show cooking, fantastic selection (I am a veggie altho I eat fish, my son has a fish allergy, my daughter is a very fussy eater) but we never struggled-the food is the best all inclusive I have ever had-I cannot understand the moans about the food in other reviews.

This is possibly one of the best hols we have had and I am sure in a years time it will have achieved 5 * status, despite opening a bit too early we had a great time. The entertainment was poor but we sat in the main bar and made our own entertainment-amphitheatre will probably be open in a few weeks which may help but really need to get some acts in as the rep contribution is the same very night and not great!

Defo recommend the hotel and would go back again but we tend to try new places every year so may be a few years before we return.

Room Tip: Rooms with own pools look nice altho duplex apartments supposed to be fab
