Me and my partner have just got back from here and I can't really add anything more than the good/bad stuff people are saying. What made my week was the weather. At one point it hit 44 degrees! The waiter that was outside was amazing he remembered our drinks everytime and our room number without having to ask. Same with the pool bar (maybe we ordered too much!!)
The one thing we hated was on the first day we were collared by this guy called Ali Baba (apparently we are meant to know who he is like he's a big deal?!?!) and he's very in your face. Refused to book anything with him because he tried to overcharge us for the camels.

Trying to get the drinks in the lobby was a bit of a joke at times and was a hit disappointed that the other cafe/restaurant was closed at night time but I think it's cause it's not in season again.

On the last day we visited the neighbouring hotel and got quite depressed we weren't staying there. Do think the service makes this hotel up.

This will be one very VERY long review with detail of the surrounding area ect,

The staff were fantastic all bar a few and my overall experience was very good. Lets start with the good then the bad then th stuff no one tells you about until its too late. it was just 2 mates going on a chill out holiday to eat sleep and lswim in the sea

We had a fairly good room with a very nice sea view which was the perfect start to our holiday. We noticed the Staff were very friendly and got all the assistance we wanted,

Went half board as we didn't feel the need to go all inclusive as neither of us drink and we planned to travel a lot and eat out as much as possible. which was good as it consisted of Breakfast and Dinner. Lets talk about the food, Breakfast is typical, Eggs will be fried for you and you have choice of a load of stuff to go with it, with tea and coffee ( ask for milk as it wont be automatically brought out )
Dinner, some sort of rice with some type of beef and fish, you'll find soup and fresh bread as well as freshly made pizza and pasta while you wait. its very nice but i can assure you youll get bored as this setup doest really change.

The beach is right outside and the sea is absolutely beautiful, you'll have a cordoned off part where youll be safe from the jet skis ect, jet ski is 30 dinnar for 10m but nice to the chaps and youll get a little extra time. The pool was pretty decent and the indoor was ok ish........

NOW FOR THE NOT SO GOOD PARTS......

Watch out for Ali Baba. Hes the guy that sells excursions and day trips ect. He will be in your face everyday. dont be afraid to tell him to get lost. He will try his hardest to rip you off. Dont know how the hotel lets him do it under their Roof. The Quad bikes are not what they are made out to be, you will drive in a group and will be in single file following the leader, bare in mind youll have children and women there too so expect you top speed to be 5mph!!!!!!!!!youll drive around for like 30min stop for a expensive drinks break then youll simply drive bk to where to started in 5 min. thats it. not the 2hr extravaganza YOU WAS PROMISED.

avoid the camel ride trip, its a total rip off. it hurts your bk and youll be simple riding through streets and peoples back garden. if you fancy a Camel ride then simply go on the beach and youll see some there. dont go with the hotel people.

This is not a 5 star hotel its a 3. its the service inside which makes the hotel what it is, im afraid this hotel may have nice staff but not enough of them, there are a few idiots about but dont let that get you down, there are ways around and ways to get what you want, ill explain latter. The Hotel was a 5 star bk in 1994 and its living in past glory.

The hotel is full of couples and very very few Brits, of the Brits most are old couples. 90% of the guests will be eastern European and Russian, Most of them as very nice but there will be an epic language barrier so you probably wont be speaking that often lol. The younger lot will speak perfect English but again majority are older couples,

The rooms wont be cleaned till about midday/3pm which is not the fault of the staff, they are over worked. Oh and expect to ask for toilet rolls when you get to the hotel lo, as this is always miss out.

If youre into Shishah (Hookah ) like me, be careful as shishah is also a word for Hashish here. The shishah is no where near good as the gulf states or even the UK tbh, but its cheap. in the hotel its about £3.00 and the man Called ATEF is the bloody awesome, i cant explain how nice of man this guy is. he only does the shishah and everyone loves him. He makes such an effort And to any tough guys out there, i dare you to arm wrestle him He is freakishly strong.

HERE IS WHAT THEY DONT TELL YOU LOL and other advice about Tunisia

The hotel has only 4 double beds lol, You may pay for a double bed but youll only get twin beds lol. So be warned lol.

This hotel will drain your money if you're paying for things like drinks, its like £1.50 for a bottle of water during dinner same for drinks and hot drinks. considering its a third world country and that i payed like £6 a night to sleep there, prices are sky high lol. Im laughing coz im not really upset as this didnt ruin my holiday at all.

Everyone in Tunisia is looking to rip you off, this did annoy me a lot but i soon learned how to annoy them bk. lets start with taxi prices, The taxis are so damn sly, they have 2 tariffs, its double after 9:30. almost every cabbie will rip you off but fiddling with his machine. agree a price beforehand. If you end up with stubborn cabbies out side the hotel who wont budge on their fake price, show them the middle finger and walk towards your left to Sahara beach hotel and catch one from there, Oh and most cab drivers dont speak English so ask before hand if he does and even if he doesnt know where to take you he will always say yes he knows then he will simple drop you off somewhere else,

TAXI PRICES
Hotel to Monastir - real value is 6 dinnars expect to get quoted 15 at least. try 2 pay under 10
To Sousse - real price is 8 dinnars but expect to get quoted 15-20 try to pay no more then 12
To Sahlil Real price of about 4 dinnars

Where you're out and about dont be intimidated by the shop keepers who ask you to look at their shop and no they will not force you buy something lol, ignore those silly stories, when it comes to bargaining look to knock off at least 90% of their asking price. if someone quotes you 90 dont be ashamed or embarrassed to offer 10 then smile and tell you em youre not an idiot, watch him go down on his price.

Everything Is exaggerated in Tunisia lol, just keep that in mind and youll be fine. for example youll be told it takes 1.5hr from Enfida airport to the hotel without any stops, thats a lie as it takes only 45m without any stops.

OVERALL...

It was crap weather for 2 weeks, grey skies and strong winds and even bloody rain, we had 2 days of crazy heat when we first got there, All this while in the uk it was the hottest two weeks of the year lol.

I cant complain as i paid like £6 a night at half board and that does make up for it but you learn that its the company that make a holiday awesome, we found some cool Crazy Brits and Latvians when we got there but they went home after 3 days and our holidays was kinda boring after that, If youre looking to chill and not be bothered all day long and go to bed at 9 then this is the place for you. if you're after a cheap holiday, this is the place for you. If youre after partying and night life as well as Atmosphere then look else where as Amir Palace is more of a relaxing place.

THE DO'S AND DONT

Be nice to the RECEPTION staff no matter how rude they are to you. these are the guys the kind of run the place, you have no idea the abuse they get off the Russians ect. sometimes they take it out on you...but smile and be nice. watch them return the favor the next time you need anything. But as for the other staff, if they give you attitude then simply tell them, if they carry on then tell em No tip for you.

Heres how to make sure your rooms always clean, find the cleaners on first day, give em a lil tip and say youll give a big tip when you're leaving, you'll get extra nice treatment, and its up to you to tip em, i never had any issue with theft or other room related problems, id leave money laying around as well tons of other expensive goods. All coz i made the effort to talk to those laddies and ask about their lives and gave a lil tip. i knew they'd look after us good.

Other people had stuff go missing, money, phones, credit cards, so be careful, i know someone lost money from his safe even,

Heres the best advice ever....Dont buy nothing from the idiotic rip off merchant shop in the lobby. The cigs are fake and everything way maked up and they will rip you off if they sense you dont know the price. Best advicee go to the petrol pump down the road, its about 4 min walk to your right. it is bloody awesome, they do food and all sorts of western snacks and drinks, stock your rooms up here. the chips are to die for ( fritz ). everything is so much cheaper here too, and its the their Starbucks. Everyone comes here to drink tea and have a lil snack. check it out as it will amaze you with its rather decent food.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BLOODY PEN WITH YOU!!!!!!!YOU GOT LANDING CARDS TO DO ON THE PLANE AND FORMS TO FILL IN AT THE HOTEL WHEN YOU ARRIVE.

Room Tip: Dont pay the sea view room, just be nice to the guys at reception and ask politely if you can get on...

Don't believe the bad reviews, we have had a fabulous holiday here! The hotel is very beautiful, living up to its name 'Palace'. The staff were great and during just a few days here we got to know them very well, all lovely people who could not do enough to help. The food was lovely with a fresh different selection for each meal and the waiter service at the poolside was brilliant, topping up drinks once one was finished. The entertainment team made the hotel a fabulous place to stay, they make the poolside and evenings come to life! Billy was great fun and my husband enjoyed multiple games of beach volley ball with him and others. We could not be happier with our holiday so do not pay attention to any bad reviews!! I really do not know what people want if this place does not make them happy!! Two very happy holiday makers!!!!

Overall a nice hotel- We stayed in November for 10 nights and had a room facing the sea. I think it all depends on what you make it of it.

Rooms- Clean but could do with upgrading, but bearing in mind hotels around Tunisia are backdated compared to the UK. So this is a nice hotel compared to others. The Lobby areas really nicely designed and a nice layout.

Food- (Half Board)Excellent can't complain, spoilt for choices for breakfast and evening meal. But you have to pay for water/drinks or bring your own.

Staff- very helpful and would try their best to attend to your needs.

Location- a bit away from the markets/ towns/ shops. A quite place with taxis and buses running regularly.

Tips- Use the local buses as they are much cheaper. The taxis- charge UK rate. Buses only 50p to town.

Overall nice and pleasant stay, would visit again.

Writing this review while still staying at hotel. On arrival very impressed but went down hill from then on. Paid upgrade to sea view but room very much in need of revamp and room was over very noisy extractor fans, room cleaned every day and towels changed but could do with replacement towels as very grubby looking. Out side Pool area, sun bed attended along with bar staff excellent , but rest of hotel staff at times very abrupt and unhelpful . Restaurant not good table never set and always a shortage of cutlery and cups. Food not much choice. Cleanness not good, hotel toilets discussing and smelly. I would not return to this hotel .

Room Tip: Ask to look at room first
