We just came back from our two week stay at this hotel.
I would highly recomend this hotel to anyone who wants relaxing holiday by the beach. Although hotel could do with some improvement( ie: wi-fi in the rooms and by the pool and not just in the reception area)we were very satisfied with overall service and very vellcoming staff. Be aware of Ibrahim, local agent who's wearing captain marine hat and who's going to try and sell you one day boat trip for 50 denars ! You gonna end up in some dodgy shabby boat for only half a day and nothing like the one initially described . He is 'freelancer' and nothing to do with the hotel! In the end I menaged to scare him and get my money back :)

Ok, I start with what I thought was good.
The hotel looks very great.
Interior and design is nice.
The pool area is ok, and beautiful indoor pool on the roof.
The location is also good.
It is located in a quiet area with other hotels practically on the beach, but there are only 10 minutes by taxi into the wonderful city of Monastir and 20 minutes to Sousse.
The airport is only minutes away.
The food in the buffet restaurant was good and quite varied.
Hotel room was clean and was cleaned and towels changed every day.
I had massage 2 times, it was cheap and really good.

Now over to what I was unhappy with .....
Air conditioning in the room did not work when we arrived.
We told this to Reception and they said they would fix it.
We complained in 4 days, but air conditioning was still not fixed. So we had to be the entire stay without air conditioning at 30 degrees at night.
We ate at the a la carte restaurant 2 times.
The first time I got sick, second time my husband got sick.
We told this in Reception, they just said that they had never heard that before.
The service was nothing to brag about. Most of the waiters seemed annoyed and not very helpful. (not all of them, some were really nice)
In the former all-inclusive hotels in Tunisia I have been. You could go into a bar and ordered what you want. This did not work here, and you had to wait until a waiter came and take your order. (Which sometimes could take up to 1 hour.) Because you had to sign out everything you ordered.
That was a pool bar that was open during the day where you could order yourself.
Beer and drinks were served in plastic cups, and the beverage was also hot :(
The entertainment and animation team was not anything to brag about either.

All in all, we had an ok stay, but this is probably not a hotel I will book again.
I have been to hotels thats so much better than this in the same price range.

Amir Palace was a 5* hotel in 1970! It hasn't been updated since and with smoking allowed in most bedrooms and all communal areas, you can imagine how grotty it is in 2012! When we check in they give us a garden view even though we have booked a sea view with BLOOD on the blanket. The service was non-existent. Reception staff slow and un-responsive and offer you no information about hotel services. At meal times the restaurant staff insist on trying to sit you at the same table every day but if someone else sits at your table, they try to make you sit with them too? errh no thanks! Trying to get a table alone was near impossible and consequently a stressful experience at every meal time. The food was bearable.. Once you have paid a deposit for the beach towels, you get given a towel that is the size of a postage stamp which doesn't cover the stained sunbed cushions you end up laying on - quite rank! The bedrooms are very old and tired and barely clean. The sheets had marks on them and the beds have camel coloured blankets on them with granny bed-spreads - all this in 48 degree heat!
The only thing going for this hotel is that its cheap - and that's for a reason! If you're used to 5* luxury (dubai standard) this is not the hotel for you! Tunisia has other nice place there please DON'T go to AMIR PALACE.

This hotel is no where near 5 star hotel. It was a local stop off for Tunisian people, anyone else, around 1 star. When entering the hotel, they saved us some left over food as we arrived quite late. This food was horrible. We didn't get showed around the hotel, had to find everything ourselves. This started us off worrying about our holiday. The room was basic, old, with a huge block tv and dated furniture. Garden view was just a mess. The food was all Tunisian, nothing for the English, and drinks took about 30 mins from ordering to get to you. No evening entertainment meaning we were in bed by 9pm every night (unless u want a kids dance).. Harassed everywhere you go to go on excursions or having your bags snatched, carried to your room and when they get there and you don't give them money they slam the bags down and walk out slamming the door. None of the staff spoke English... There's more.... Smoking aloud inside and outside the rooms, local Tunisians everywhere, only 3 English couples in the whole hotel.... 3 days in we got food poisoning meaning staying inside, when phoning reception to tell them we were I'll and stuck in the room they told us we would have to pay for toilet roll and water which we needed.... The other 2 english couples also got food poisoning the day after us... Everything dated, broken and very grim. When you eat your expected to sit with people from other rooms.Only nice thing was the clear water and white sand( don't however look to the side as the beach about 50 steps nextdoor has local Tunisians on who leave dirty nappys and rubbish everywhere). It may be cheap, but I would prefer to pay more and actually go to a true 5* hotel and get good service. Would not recommend to anyone who wants to go on a relaxing 5* holiday as this is awful and ruined our whole week!!! This review may sound harsh but it is honest, from a young couple who have experienced 4 and 5* and this is far far from it. We have been on many holidays, officially the worst one, and would be put of Tunisia completely

Pros: beautiful beach, good food but constantly repeated, beautifully built hotel lobby
Cons: all inclusive concept is far from the standards, everybody is watching how you take money from waiters to animation team (Bingo!), for each drink you have to sign a bill that creates crowd and discomfort, and you lose the will to look for the following. The rooms and entire hotel require reconstruction. Rooms contains old furniture, and do not clean on a daily basis. They only tighten the bedding. The hotel has a problem with the drains. Constantly present an unpleasant smell in the courtyard of the hotel.
Waiters are constantly arguing with each other in front of guests. Some waiters are rude and many times we have felt the discomfort.
