we really enjoyed our stay in this family run hotel. our room was spacious and clean, so were the shared bathroom and toilet. breakfast was included in the room rate, was fresh and tasty. the hosts were friendly and overall the hotel was good value for money.

We stayed at this family-owned Inn for one night. We were greeted by a woman and her son both of whom looked modern, polite and kind, although they were not as welcoming as one would hope (as is usually the case in the south of the country). The place is clean but not so warm at night (needs some heating). Breakfast was nice and the hostel is conveniently located in the heart of the Medina. Actually it is just about what one could ask for in a small town like Mahdia (a clean bed, clean toilets and good food :))

Very cozy place since it has been renovated from an existing house. Very friendly owners who are very helpful. Shared toilets are clean. There are very few budget options in Mahdia & hence this place is not to be missed. Convenient walking distance location to most attractions make it #1.

The El Medina, with about six or seven rooms (including two on the rooftop), may be the only small hotel/B&B in Mahdia's small medina. It is owned and operated by a distinguished elderly man and his family, who live in what was once their home. For 27 Tunisian dinars (less than $20) we enjoyed a night in a second-floor room (the Sidi Bou Said) across the hall from the large, well-maintained, separate toilet room and shower room, breakfast of yogurt, bread, jam, and coffee included. Our room had a window onto the open-air courtyard, was large, tiled, and came with a comfortable double bed, built-in closet, table and chairs, and, in the German style, a porcelain wash basin. Outstanding value, personal attention, and close proximity to the lighthouse, fort, graveyard (sorry, I just love graveyards), a couple of hammams, the family restaurant El Moez, the Place de Caire, the real fishermen of Mahdia, and the usual assortment of souvenir shops. Not for sunbathers. Reserve ahead in the high season.

If you want to stay in Mahdia's enchanting medina, this is about it at present! A private house turned into a small hotel, where most rooms have water but the bathrooms and showers are shared. The place is clean and friendly, and only charged me 15 DT off-season, which included a quite satisfactory breakfast.

If your primary goal is time on the beach, you should stay at a larger hotel outside the medina, and apparently, the further along the peninsula (W) the cleaner the beach.
