We were not originally going to this hotel but were switched for building work to the one we were going to. Hard to know where to start, bad service especially for 'all inclusive' customers. Food ok but very repetitive, animateurs worse than useless, only interested in under 20 year olds, continuos Rap, Ganster Rap and worse around the pool, and all at head splitting volume. Belongings in our room tampered with, when reported to the 'manager' we were treated with contempt and nothing at all was done until 12 hours before we were due to leave. All in all a very poor hotel, badly managed and porr sevice. Don't bother. We love Tunisia and this won't put us off . But do yourselves a favour, go somewhere else.

The rooms are terrible, we found ants in the corners of your room, the beds are hard as rocks.
Housekeeping brooke one of your souvenirs, and the person took the figure that were broken and put it back where it was before, they just swipped the broken glass under the table, when we found out, then we went to the reception and was completely ignored by the staff who by the way could'nt speak any english at all. Then we waited 20 minutes for the hotelmanager, he was sittin 15 meters from us and was watching football, he could'nt care less if we were waiting for him.
When he came, we were told not to give him any orders because he thought we were lying and we broke the thing ourself.! They never replaced the thing. Bad service.
We stopped eating at the hotel when I had a look in the kicthen, it looked like they never cleaned it and while we were there we saw a bird and a wild cat coming out from there.!
The poolarea was ok, but the music was so loud at night so you could'nt sleep.

It was a really bad experience!

nice hotel a bit isolated but clean, friendly and secure

clean swimming pool,
beach was nice and clean grilled fish at lunch time was lovely and international environment with lots of fun

The rooms are really clean and the AC is perfect. Really comfortable. Full pension is maybe too much, there are some restaurants in the area wich are cheaps and tasty. Just book half board. Staff not really friendly... Pool is wonderful and sometimes you gonna fight getting a nice spot at the pool. Forget about the beach across the street. Excursion to Tunis is enjoyable and there a lot to do. I would recommend this hotel, even if the staff is not really friendly

We have just returned from the African Queen Hotel in Hammermet, it is in the middle of no where, we were put into a taxi by Thomas Cook and never saw another english person until the day before we come home, THIS HOTEL IS NOT FOR THE ENGLISH it is for Italians and French only, the hotel only caters for these food wise.

I must say that the staff are great all friendly and helpful but that is the only good thing about this hotel, i would not visit this hotel again, it takes 1 hour walk either way to go to the shops and just nothing to do in this part of Hammermet.

The African Queen is a OK 4 Star Hotel, located very close to a great beach area (2 min walk across a very quite road).
Pros: Great location
Clean
Helpful staff

Cons: Very noisy (Dance music blarring from pool from 10 in the morining to 6 in the evening)
Bit isolated from the main resturants
Far from the main Medina

Taxi from Monastir about 90Dir (£45) takes about 90 mins, better to get a tranfer. The hotel is in a good loaction if you want to travel
to Tunis or Sousse as the main train line goes through Bir Bou Regba which is only 15 mins away by taxi, and the trains are cheap, clean, air conditioned and run on time.

I stayed in this hotel for a week in April on a half board basis. The Hotel was dark and gloomy and very cold in the evenings and the hotel room was spartan. The sheets and towels were grey (originally white) and there was lipstick on one of my sheets. The food was edible but certainly not appetising. My sleep was disturbed with the noise that came from a club across from the hotel - the noise started at midnight and finished at 4 am. I would certainly not go back.

  • Liked — Pool Area was quite pleasant
  • Disliked — Poor food, poor cleanliness, dull and gloomy rooms, noise from Club outside.
