Depending on how Hammamet is pronounced, it can mean bathing places or dove! The beach which is a good size plays host to thousands of tourists in summer. In winter many of the fishing boats are drawn up on the beach and nets are cast in untidy bundles.Today is a great winter photo opportunity and there are half a dozen camera tourists taking advantage of the conditions. Two horsemen use the beach as a private playground and gallop back and forward over the sands. A dog joins in the activity barking enthusiastically!
The historic old Kasbah sits up high on the promontory and dates from 904. This beach has seen Normans,Spanish Corsairs,Genoese sailors, the Knights of Malta and Muslims.
Lots of history attached to this sandy beach!
