“Mixed feelings”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

Arrived just after midnight, (Sunday Morning) No rep on site. Disagreeable receptionist. No offer of refreshment.
Rep did not show for arranged meeting later in day. Reception was unable to contact rep. I phoned local office, local rep, texted local rep, and UK office, no reply. Rep finally showed up on Tuesday denying that she had not shown up. On following Friday notice posted saying that Rep and offices were available 24/7!!!
The Hotel. Negatives.
At first impression, definitely not 4*. Maybe just nudging 3*. Food presentation could be much improved, also variety. Wholesome but!! Coffee machines sometimes worked but overflowed onto floor. Had to remind staff to replenish cutlery/plates on several occasions. Bread ran out half hour before end of breakfast on one day. A little extra care in cleaning would not go amiss. Bedroom floors/bath room walls and cookers visible from serving area. Movement of used table ware/left over food could have been disposed of differently. Open trollies wheeled through dining area like a works canteen could have been covered up.
Dine around. The opportunity to dine at sister hotels. Tried the Asian Restaurant. No choice of menu. Starter /dessert. Main meal was fish/chicken/meat, all on same plate?
Tried the Mediterranean Restaurant. No choice, starter /dessert, one piece of chicken and some rice.
Very unimpressed with attitude of reception and bar staff.
Entertainment. Two or three nights quite good, but the rest was provided by audience participation.
I don’t go on holiday to entertain, I like to be entertained.
Outside hotel somewhat neglected. Street like a giant ash tray, and street lighting in need of repair.

Positives.
Pool area, small but well kept. Life guard appeared immediately and introduced himself, and offered to provide sunbed wherever we wanted to go.
Beach. Two minutes across the road. Half grassed half sand. Attendant/lifeguard always immediately on hand to provide sunbed wherever we wanted. Beach area well kept. Restaurant waiting staff very efficient/pleasant.

Would I go again?
My review seems pretty damaging, but yes I would.
It was quiet, plenty of space, plenty of comfortable seating areas, no hassle on the beach/pool area.
Although the hotel was barely 3* standard, on reflection I enjoyed my holiday. The negatives took up only a short time. Although the hotel seemed full at mealtimes (there was always seating available) there was plenty of room both inside and outside to relax. No overcrowding. Lots of personal space.
A more effective “hands on” management team could raise the star rating.

Me and Partner stayed here for a week commencing 14th September. Originally booked in with Iberostar Chich Khan, but thankfully our local Thomas Cook moved us to Solaria before we flew out as reviews for that place were rubbish due to food poisining and uncleanliness.
Our room was large and clean, and so was the bathroom. Had a great view looking at the sea and the marina. Maids came in every day.
Not a great deal of choice food wise in the Restaurant, very samey, pizza, chicken, chips and salad mainly, but cooked ok and tasted fine. Just not alot of choice. Disappointed a few times with the tables that we sat at as in the tablecloths were not always changed from the previous guests, so had food marks on them. We didnt find all of the Waiters that friendly, just a couple.
The Pools and area were relatively clean, not spotless, but a nice atmosphere with music (albiet abit loud), good variety of songs old and new. Animation team good fun, my Partner participated in Water Polo and Archery on many occcasions. Big annoyance was the flies, forever swatting yourself! 2 pools, one quieter than the other. And also a waterslide. Barman
Evening Entertainment, we didnt particularly sit and watch it, just sat in quiter areas having drinks and chatting with a couple of other families that we got friendly with.
The area of Yasmine Hammamet was ok, abit dirty and smelly and the shop owners are a nuisance trying to get you into the shops to buy things. Suppose thats just the way it is, but I get nervous. Wouldnt want to have a walk on my own, especially at night. The Medina is ok to have a mooch about. Marina is nice with lots of lovely yachts. Had a look at the Beach, that was enough. Wouldnt want to spend the day there, too much seaweed around and looked riffy.
Had a meal one evening at the SteakHouse on the front of the Medina, British Woman runs it, food was ok, nothing to shout about. The next night we had food at the Rovers Return Pub down the road from Solaria on the Promenade, that was better. Proper English Pie and Chips and Fish and Chips and Sky Sports so quite a nice atmosphere with other Brits.
All in all, had a nice relaxing holiday in some lovely hot weather (couple of cloudy days, but still warm enought to sit round the pool). And we were very content with the Hotel for a week, not sure if I would want to stay there for a fortnight, though.
This is our 3rd visit to Tunisia, we stayed in Hammamet and Port el Kantoui both 4 years ago (Hammamet being the best Tunisian Holiday that we have had due to the fantastic Hotel at the time, dont think its there anymore so we have heard). We have agreed that we are not in any rush to go back to Tunisia, if ever. But would recommend this hotel, just dont expect anything posh and luxurious.

We stayed for two weeks, and loved our stay in the Solaria. The facilities are top notch, the staff are very friendly and were willing to help with whatever we needed, and everything was clean and tidy. The area is beautiful and with our room view of the beach, waking up each morning was gorgeous. The outdoor pool was clean and picturesque, with a calm and relaxing atmosphere. At meal times our waiter for our stay, Ahmed Mathlouthi, was very friendly and attentive, bringing some fun to the meal. The only real downer for the stay was the evening entertainment, it was repetitive and not really our sort of thing, but that didnt stop a crowd of other holidayers from hooting and hollering. Overall we would totally recommend the Solaria for future travellers.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the waterfront are beautiful, and as we were at the end all we could hear was...

Me and my partner stayed here a week; 13/10/13 till 20/10/13 by far one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in. Staff are friendly and helpful and are always wanting to please.
Although other reviews have mentioned that the beach is dirty we did not find this the case, on the hotels private beach the litter was constantly being picked up and if there was a lack of sunbeds more would be taken down from the hotel so you were never without one, same goes for by the pool.

The Hotel buffet was very good lots of choice and the dine around scheme made a nice change. We tried both the mexican and the oriental (which was part of the hotel) both were enjoyable and was a nice change of scenery. It felt like eating out but without the extra cost.

The Bar staff were always happy to help with a large range of cocktails and liqueurs available on the all inclusive package.

The waiters in the restaurant were very efficient and friendly. One in particular Ahmed Mathlouthi made our dining experience very memorable, he always had a table waiting for us and remembered our room number and preferred drinks right from the first night. He was a fantastic waiter and we could not recommend his service highly enough.

All in all it was a fantastic holiday in a wonderful hotel and we would not hesitate to come back here.

We stayed at the Iberostar Solaria now the Medina Solaria for two weeks in Oct, we arrived in the early hours and were checked in to our room and informed that if we would like to go to the restaurant drinks and cakes were available.
Our room was spacious and very clean the maids were great and everyday changed the towels cleaned the room and left flowers or sweets on the bed or made a decoration with the towels.
The food in the restaurant was excellent with a wide range for breakfast, lunch or dinner with a fresh pasta counter where you could choose which pasta dish you wanted. The staff in the restaurant were all extremely polite and nothing was too much trouble. MALEK our TOP waiter was always there to greet you with a smile and a chat, he knew your drinks order and organised his team well so that they always kept you topped up and your table clean.
Mohaned Ali the restaurant manager and the head chef were always about and would come over and ask if everything was ok and was there anything their staff could do to help; they keep the food fresh and refreshed any dishes that were running low, so the food was always hot and fresh regardless of what time you dinned.
The pool area was cleaned every morning and there were plenty of loungers, the lifeguard was always there to get your mats for the loungers even if you went over to get one he would still insist on carrying it back for you he would always smile and say Hi whenever he passed you. The pool bar staff soon learnt you drinks order so would give you your beer or soft drinks without ice and always with a smile.
The entertainment was good with something going on most of the day even if you did not take part there was something to watch. Bob, Pebo and the rest did a great job always there if you wanted a game of table tennis or a go on the archery. Special thanks to Bob for helping us keep winning at the beach volleyball despite the Russians wanting to play Olympic rules it was just a bit of fun. The entertainment at night was not a west end show but they did their best and gave us all a laugh what more could you ask for.
The Thomas Cook rep Charlie was very nice and extremely helpful she had a great knowledge of the area and nothing was too much trouble for her. Charlie made you feel relaxed at your welcoming meeting and reassured you that she was only a phone call away THANKS CHARLIE.
Special thanks to Malek for arranging for my wife to learn how to do food carving in the kitchen with one of the chefs who was most gracious and shared his craft skills along with the head waiter who interpreted for us the chefs should be extremely proud of their kitchen it was very clean and well organised . Also to HANEDA for making such a fuss of us whenever we went to get our main meal you made us smile and laugh every night. Bob thanks for your time talking about everything and the kind thoughts and gift you gave us.
All in all a very nice clean hotel with very friendly staff would definitely come back to see you all again.

Despite the temperature being approximately 30 degrees my husband and I were told there was nothing the hotel could do about the heat in our 4th floor room as the air conditioning was turned off in the whole hotel on 15th October and it wouldn't go back on until next summer (June). Can't believe we experienced such bad service in a so called 5 star hotel! Having stayed in a number of hotels at this time of year, we have NEVER experienced such a poor and unacceptable response. Very disappointed.
