Loved the place. Good food every night with variety of choices for the fussiest eaters. Rooms with pool view very good. Service with smile. No animation though as it was low season but staff very helpful and friendly especially bechir at reception. He made a very good impression of the hotel. The female staff not so friendly though. Nice indoor pool . Would definitely stay again even if just for the food! Yum

Went here for our wedding anniversary, have to agree with other peoples review took a very long time to check in! Once shown to our room was happy to be in the nice air conditioned room! Sadly breakfast was hard work as que to get an omlette or crepe was far to long, seemed if you spoke French you was okay!! Otherwise we had a pleasant time, dont try and get a sunbed poolside impossible unless up at the crack of dawn head for the beach plenty of beds and only a few mins away shuttle service if you dont fancy the walk and nice little bar and restaurant to get lunch. Bar staff in the main bar very friendly as well as the pool bar staff. Was a problem with flys around the pool which seemed to get worse throughout our stay definitely less at the beach! Waiters were very attentive in the evening and went all out on our last night made it very memorable for us. I think when sitting in the main bar of the hotel it feels like a 5 star other parts of the hotel not quite there yet. We did dine in the a la carte restaurant and the chef which was a lady came out to ask us if everything was alright nice touch! Shame the other one was closed. Think a bit of attention to the rubbish that is dumped along the wasteland on the way to the beach needs to be cleared up not a pretty site. We booked very last minute so hence we got a very good deal so would be happy to return.

Room Tip: Side garden room less noisy when evening entertainment is on

We stayed for a week in February 2013 with mixed views.

We arrived around midnight and the entire hotel seemed deserted. All the lights were off. The sole security guard led us to the check in desk. Check in was slow, I'm not sure why it took so long. The security guard then took us to our room through extremely dark hallways - we were genuinely afraid of what on earth we had booked.

Room: good size, balcony with view over the outdoor pool. but air conditioning was either broken or wasn't actually air conditioning. It seemed like it was just circulating the air in the room. The bed was firm, which I don't mind but my wife couldn't get comfortable, and the bedding was uncomfortably warm - it was probably made of a blend of polyester and cotton. The room itself was acceptably clean, although the lighting was poor, especially in the toilet (there was a separate toilet and bathroom).

Service: overall quite poor. Staff are not attentive. You'll find yourself waiting quite a lot. The thing that stood out for us was when we returned on a hot day with a few bottles of store bought mineral water. The security guard stopped us at the gate and said outside water was not allowed. I explained we did not know and assured it wouldn't happen again. Then as we walked past reception we were stopped again by reception for the same reason. We stood there arguing for a good 10 minutes; I was shocked at the attitude of the hotel manager, Najib Ben Kheder. I reiterated our not knowing this strange rule of no outside water (it's there so the hotel can make as much money from you from buying it's own overpriced mineral water), yet Najib insisted we surrender our water bottles! I couldn't believe it. In the end we agreed we would take one bottle back with us to our room and they could keep the rest, but the damage was done and it left us in a bad mood for the rest of our stay. But then, a few hours later, there's a knock on our hotel room door and a man (who didn't speak English) with our water. Why didn't the hotel manager have the guts to return it to us himself?

Facilities: the hotel is actually a decent size with indoor (it was cold or not heated!) and outdoor pools, restaurants, activities. The restaurant where breakfast is served has a nice outside garden area where you can watch the birds play while you eat. There is a free tuk tuk that takes you to the beach, although it's only a 3 minute walk anyway. At the beach there is another restaurant area, where we had a delicious pizza.

Food: we stayed on a half board basis and the food was buffet style with a large variety. We enjoyed meal times. The desserts too were nice. Although forget about getting the kind of nice sliced bread you might be used to in the West, and the drinks are quite expensive.

Location: this hotel seems to be on the very edge of a line of hotels, quite far from the centre of Yasmin Hammemet. Compared to some of the other hotels we saw, ours looked shabby. There is a convenience shop a couple minutes walk down the road, and a nice cafe restaurant a few more minutes down, where we ate quite a few times.

The area: Yasmin Hammemet is man made for tourists. You won't find any locals here, apart from those who are working. If we knew this we wouldn't have stayed. The beach is littered with what is probably camel dung. Literally every metre you will find poop in the sand. There's a dive centre which I tried and was fun, but the water was very murky and you couldn't really see much in the way of sea life.

Overall: Far from a 5 star hotel, more like 3. My advice would be to find another resort and not stay at Yasmin Hammemet. If you must stay here, then stay at a nicer hotel that's also closer to the centre. The little extra for one of the Iberostars would be worth it.

Room Tip: One with a balcony.

We stayed in the Alhambra Thalasso in July 2013 for one week having never travelled to Tunisia before. I echo some of the other reviews on here when I say there was some initial confusion around check in and we were kept waiting some time. However, we were given drinks and the atmosphere in the lunge waiting area was relaxing. The room itself was very spacious with a large bed and located in a quiet wing of the hotel overlooking the breakfast terrace rather than the pool (which must have been very noisy). There are two pool areas, the first is a standard larger pool where most of the visitors seemed to spend their days; their is however a smaller pool to the rear of the hotel which was much nicer and far far quieter. At time we were the only guests using it for hours at a time! This pool also has the added benefit of being located right next to the indoor pool for those who like to swim properly. I can only assume most guests don't know its there because this area really was a huge improvement on the main pool which noisy and quite crowded at times.
The beach is a 5 minute walk away and is lovely with helpful staff. Shops and restuarants are a bit further out, probably 15-20 minute walk into the centre of the town but not unpleasant and felt very safe walking at night.
Overall we got what we expected from the hotel and wouldn't hesistate visiting again. Its never a 5 star but is clean and comfortable and we enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing time!

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet ask to be put in a room away from the main pool.

First of all I'm giving this hotel 2 rating as it's advertised as a 5 star hotel and is no where near to a 5 star!! Very disappointing.
The pool is very nice but needs to be a lot larger to accommodate the amount of people the hotel holds. There are not enough sun beds on the beach or the pool side areas to for fill the customers at the hotel. We found the food to be hit and miss but mostly very bland and boring. If you want anything fresh then be prepared to wait. Especially in the morning if you want a crepe or omelette then the que is even bigger, to miss this I would recommend get up about 7:30am (which nobody wants to do on holiday) and while your down there I would recommend putting your towel out as otherwise you won't get a sun bed for the day. The private beach next to the hotel looks beautiful until you get up close and realise there is rubbish everywhere and even in the sea!! We went into the sea twice thought we would give it a second chance and all that, then I got a churned up carrier bag stuck to me whitest in the sea, it was a case of dodge the rubbish before we both got out never to return again!! It is a real shame there is rubbish everywhere as the beaches and sea is beautiful to look at and very clear but just too polluted :(.
If unfortunately if you have already booked this hotel then I would recommend doing some trips - Simply Sahara is amazing they cram loads of sight seeing into your two days. Well worth the money you see the Star Wars sets, Sahara, Amphitheatre plus loads more. Zulu is another one, it's a good afternoon out you go around a zoo which is a really nice zoo, did think at times the animals there got treated better than the people staying in our hotel.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone and wouldn't go back to Tunisia. The only good thing I could say about the hotel was the rooms where big (but run down in need of reprinting and repair)
