Alhambra Thalasso Hotel
Ranked #32 of 119 Hotels in Hammamet
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 10, 2013

This was our first trip to Tunisia and we would definitely return to the Alhambra Thalassos . The holiday was a good enticing price and we were not sure what to expect. We were welcomed to the resort and hotel by the Thomson reps Ade and Lorraine. They were cheery, confident, informative and we quickly relaxed. The public areas in this hotel were impressive, clean and welcoming.
Our hotel room was large comfortable if slightly dated. We had a view of the pool as requested. The bedroom and bathroom , bedding and towels were clean and changed daily and the queen size bed was very comfortable. Air conditioning wasn't great but apart from this we had no real complaints at all.
The food was good, varied and plentiful and the waiting staff were polite and good at their jobs.
The indoor and outdoor pools are excellent and the pool attendant went out of his way to be helpful.
We loved the beach. The Alhambra's private beach is a short walk down a very quiet road. The Tuk Tuk sits at the hotel gates and transports you the very short distance to the beach. This service is free but the 5 minute stroll is pleasant. The Alhambra is the last hotel in Yasmine Hammamet.. The public beach goes on for miles. We think the Alhambra has the best bit of beach. The other hotels private beaches looked over crowded, grubby and on a slope. We were delighted at our choice and the beach attendant is good at his job which includes preventing locals pestering to sell their goods. We never felt pressurised into buying goods. A polite no, was accepted. This was unlike the shop keepers on the walk into the Marina who did tend to hassle you. The easy solution was to walk along the shore side and this avoided the shops.
We would go back to the Alhambra Thalassos and hope that you would give this small, 180 room hotel a visit. They will welcome you.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view room. These rooms are away from the road and very very quiet.

Ok - this place is not 5 star according to English standards, but for the price we paid I couldn't have asked for much more.

A few things let the place down - I'll start with these.

Bedrooms a little outdated with single beds pushed together to make a double bed, aircon not working, hit and miss hot water supply.
One thing that did disappoint is that on three occasions we asked reception to supply an extra pillow each to us, this never happened (despite assurances it would). One pillow per guest is a little mean and the hotel was far from full, so they must have had spares!

HOWEVER

I enjoyed myself immensely at the Alhambra and can not fault the rest of my time there.

Really comfortable sun-loungers which were clean and good quality. Adel the pool supervisor supplied us with clean towels every day. He took so much pride in his work and was constantly cleaning in and around the pool, ensuring the guests had everything they needed and was an absolute pleasure to speak to.

The bar staff, especially Medali were always keen to speak to you and friendly. The service they offered was second-to-none. They kept us refreshed all day around the pool (and all evening in the bar!) and brought dishes of cheese and olives with every drink we purchased. Always pleasant and smiling.

Beautifully kept grounds with many gorgeous birds chirping away and stunning plants everywhere.

The food was buffet however chefs also cooked meats, roasted veggies, omelettes and crepes etc. from scratch further down the buffet table. Well stocked buffet too - never stuck for choice.

Can't wait to go back.

One thing that i dont love in Tunisia is that kind of touristic policy that sometimes seprates tourist from the real country .. "Yasmine Hammamet", a large touristic village, fits perfectly to that definition.
Laying at 20km of Hammamet, The "Yasmine Hammamet" village is a kind of compound, lets even say a ghetto (you can go there, stay three months and never see the real country), made up of nearly 50 hotels, with a kind of down-town called "medina" which is a totaly artificial old arab city with full of tourists ... Fortunately, you can meet some tunisians on the beach or in coffees to remember that you are in Tunisia ...
In that village, all the hotels looks the same, even in their rooms .. I went there three times for congress, and i felt that three times i was in the same hotel ..

Exception to all this, is the Alhambra hotel .. which is a very good surprise !!!
Nothing to have with the other hotels, it has his own arab-andalusian-moroccan architecture
Rooms are large and well designed and cleaned, Dinner is ok, and Thalassotherapy is ok too ...
There is internet wifi for free in all the rooms and it really works.
I recommand !!!

I have selected Average, and i would have selected Good, but i couldn't ! I was there for a weekend on half board. The room was fine, with comfortable bed, clean bathroom... but the view from the balcony wasn't great. I could have asked to chance for another room with a view onto a garden or the swimming pool though, but i didn't. Also the TV was an outdated model, but i didn't care. Food was good in quality and variety. And as its name indicates... the thallassotherapy packages were great... you've to try'em !
