“Great holiday in a beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013

We stayed here for a week in October (6 adults and 3 teenagers). We had a fab time. The staff were lovely, very cheerful and couldn't do enough for us. A special word about the security guard on the beach.Every am he made sure our 9 sun beds were ready with fresh towels and he had a big smile for everyone. The kids loved the water slides and the water sports( so did the adults) and the paragliding.
The restaurant staff were very helpful and made sure we had a table for nine people. The food was very nice and there was a great variety. Breakfast was especially nice with freshly made omelettes. The beach bar had nice fresh cheese/ham rolls and drinks for anyone who felt peckish.
The rooms were cleaned everyday, and the hotel, pool areas and grounds were spotless.
It was my first trip to Tunisia and I would certainly go back again.

Just returned from 2 weeks holiday with our family including a 7yr old & 5 yr old....we have visited 4 other Holiday Village type locations.
The Manar was a great Hotel, very friendly & attentive staff, plenty of menu options and really saw no need to go offsite. Rooms were clean but yes, the place "looked tired" which is why its closing down in November for 6 months for a complete makeover.
Its "end of season" for the Thomson staff but they were always there to provide help & support if necessary - our only complaint was the appalling "so called" Entertainment from I 5 Live.
As other reviews have suggested, seeing children SO BORED was extremely disappointing - most young children were so switched off !! Thomson reps were "unable to comment" but it was obvious many guests had raised the same issue.
Just to mention the lovely "MOMO"....been the Lifeguard at "his Pool" for circa 20 years & made everyone his personal friend - he was by far the best entertainer for the children and we hope the Hotel management & Thomson realize just how much value he adds. We LOVE you MOMO was the cry from children & adults alike.

Room Tip: MANAR 1 was best location - high floor with Balcony had perfect view over the "quiet POOL"...

Nine of us stayed in this hotel for a week in October and we found it to be perfect! Our holiday started on the new Dreamliner aircraft which was unbelievably comfortable. When we arrived in the airport there was a 2 hour queue to get through passport control which was a pain but that was my only issue with this holiday. The hotel was fab with plenty of things to do. My three teenagers were kept occupied at all times which says a lot in itself. The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for us. We spent the week on the beach. We gave the security guard a tip everyday and we would come down every morning to our 9 sunbeds set up together with fresh towels on them. The restaurant and bar staff where also very friendly. They really looked after us and we never struggled to get a table together. The food was really nice with a new themed night every evening. The rooms were spotless and were cleaned everyday. The hotel even gave us three rooms next to each other which i thought was fab. Overall we had a great time and would definitely go back there again.

Room Tip: Try to stay in Manar 1 as this is the main building and it has all the facilities.

We have just returned (20 Oct 2013) from Manar and absolutely loved it, It was our first holiday with our kids ( 10months and 23months old). It is not five star but we didn't expect that for what we paid (less than £1000 for all four of us for a weeks stay) It's still very clean and our room was great, it was a family room with a double bed in the main area and two bunks in the middle area. They had already put two cots in ready on arrival so there was no waiting about for them when we got there(one in the main and one in the middle area) It was spacious and had plenty of drawers cupboards etc for our clothes. We had room 1516 on the 5th floor with a beautiful sea view, a nice comfy bed and a TV in both areas with various British channels inc cbeebies. There are numerous pools to choose from as well as the slides, some more relaxing than others and we choose the shallow pool that "MoMo" was lifeguard over most days, he was brilliant with the kids and very helpful to us every day. I enjoyed an hour long massage in the spa for £25.The beach is great with various activities inc Jet skis and you can get ham or cheese cobs down there (really nice and fresh) along with drinks/alcohol. We ate something different every day and really enjoyed the food. All the staff were friendly and well worth tipping, although they don't expect it. Our little girl can't eat dairy products and Sonia(manager?) arranged soya milk for us, no problem. Just outside the hotel are shops and again really friendly people that don't pester. The only bad point of our trip were the baggage handlers at Enfidha airport throwing pushchairs and prams around, we asked them personally to be careful with our NEW double buggy but when we got back the frame was badly bent and we are now claiming for a replacement! We had never been to Tunisia before but will definitely return to Manar..... but when the kids don't need wheels!!

We travelled here for 11 nights at the beginning of October and overall had a great holiday. We had never been to Tunisia before and were a bit dubious but all you need is within the holiday village so no need to venture out. Although having said that my husband got a double ear infection out there and needed to visit the on site doctor (50 dinar) and he was very thorough and advised he needed anti-bis from the local pharmacy. Easy to find and on going there we found some fab local shops that are half the price to the sellers of the travelling market that come to the hotel. So if you want some nice souvenirs go and visit the shops just up from the hotel.
The staff are very friendly and make such a fuss of the kids, during our holiday we had friends and family join us taking us to a group of 10. At dinner times they accommodated us so we'll and in turn we left a tip of which they remembered every evening and were so attentive.
The on site facilities are great, always lots to do. Although we did enjoy the beach, the sand and sea are lovely and there were plenty of beds plus the beach bar which served yummy baguettes.
The food was varied although don't expect a full English.....they don't eat pigs so no bacon etc. we obviously understood this but did miss a good old fry up ha! There was always something for everyone on offer and the BBQ was a big hit.
The rooms were cleaned everyday and well appointed, we had a kids den which was great for them but we did miss a balcony to chill out on when they went to sleep. There wasn't a sofa so we ended up chatting quietly in the dark on the bed while they got off to sleep. Would consider a room with a separate room and balcony if we came again.
Kids entertainment at night was much to be desired, just a disco would have suited but our kids got bored watching the sketch shows. Having said that they made a right fuss of my daughter who celebrated her birthday out there. Bingo comes on at 9 though so be prepared to be shhhh'd if you aren't out quick enough! They have a fantastic singer on in the lobby bar, you must spend a night listening to him.
Kids club and crèche were good although only used a few days.
All in all a great holiday.....would recommend :)

Room Tip: Go for a sea view with a balcony. Manar 1 has the kids dens.

A great hotel, with even better staff and a good choice of food even for the fussy (only slight moan is the food was never hot, but lukewarm). Momo is an awesome life guard and the life and sole around the quieter pool.
A few points, if you attend the welcome meeting, you will be told if you go to the market you will struggle to get a taxi, we went and there were so many available, felt they were misleading us so we booked a trip. We were also told the guys on the beach with camels would charge you to get on and then again to get off, again they recommended someone else, we had no issues.
If you want to buy from the market and aren't keen on haggling, let them give you a price, knock a third of the price and then walk away, they will chase you and the price will drop, when you hear the price you want to pay, take it. Tried this 3 times and it's works.
Lastly the resort in our opinion is set up for young families not for 15/16 year olds with the Resturant having a canteen feel, but if you sit outside it is lovely and you feel you are in a nicer place.

Our trip started in the new Boeing 787 'Dreamliner,' which was a very impressive aircraft. Lots of legroom, great seat back console with tons to amuse across the journey and a fun light show too! On disembarkation at Enfidha airport we walked less than 20 yards before hitting a huge queue heading towards passport control - 1 hour later we made it through - feeling very sticky and hot we headed out towards to coach for our transfer. We were told by the Thomson rep who greeted us that if we use a "porter" only tip them a maximum of £1. The porter that offered to carry our cases was quite forceful so we thought we'd go with it - when we arrived at the coach he asked for £3 and wouldn't let go of our bags even when offered £2 - a few words in Arabic from the driver and he left. Our welcome at the Holiday Village Manar was fantastic! Mostly because we were joining 6 more family members who had already been there a week and they greeted us with our favourite drinks and our niece and nephew had made us lovely welcome pictures. So as soon as we arrived our holiday hit the ground running - Our wristbands were added and we went straight to lunch - then after a quick change we went down to meet the legendary "MoMo" down at 'his' pool. What a great guy he is - he works so hard to make sure everyone has somewhere suitable to sit (sun or shade) and to keep the everyone in the family happy - he was especially good with the kids - constant high five's where the hat goes flying, fist bumps that 'explode' and his daily 12noon jump into the water. "I LOVE YOU GRAND BRITANNIA" was regularly heard at the top of his voice. By the end of our week we were sad to say goodbye to him. Other leisure facilities such as the water slides, high ropes, private beach etc were also excellent and made for lots of happy hours during the daytime. The food here was great in my opinion - a wide choice and lots of daily changes due to nightly themes and some lovely Tunisian dishes to try too! Last year at the Luabay holiday village in Tenerife there hadn't been much white meat on the buffet but this time there was lots of Turkey and Chicken which was certainly more pleasing to some of the more discerning of my family's palates! We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside most evenings and with the hot balmy weather and the waiters out there were fantastic. Seemed to have everything ready before we got there each evening, even remembered our drinks of choice. Sadly the "I 5 live" entertainment for children of an evening, in my opinion, was very poor. The entertainment seemed to consist mainly of 'chat' and 'games' and not nearly enough music. As soon as a song was played, particularly if there was an associated dance, all the kids swarmed to the dance floor and started taking part - whilst the 'chat' was taking place, nobody but the people on stage seemed interested. Kids seemed to congregate amongst the chairs running around and making up their own games taking no notice of what was happening on the stage supposedly "for them." I felt that if the ratio of 'chat' to 'dancing' was reversed then the entertainment would have been far more successful at occupying the target audience. Apart from that and the queue at passport control the holiday was absolutely brilliant - lots of happy memories and I would recommend the place for your next holiday particularly if travelling with children. Possibly worth a swerve if you're not keen on kids, as one gentleman we spoke to revealed, but then why choose a hotel concept designed with families in mind if that's what you think!? Beats me!
