“Brilliant surprise”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

We stayed here for 1 week and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. I upgraded to a double family room in Manar 2 (the complex has two accommodation buildings manar 1 & 2). Manar 2 was brilliant. The room has all the normal amenities, bed, shower, separate toilet, mini fridge, 2 TV's (satellite), hair dryer, a kettle (tea, coffee milk and sugar is provided on a daily basis) and aircon. Food was spot on, in the main dinning hall there is a different menu or theme every night with plenty of choice for everyone, my partner is a veggie and loved the food. Non veggie's I don't recall there being any pork on the menu!! There is plenty of activities for children and adults during the day and night. Do spend some time orientating yourself and find out what's on and where in the complex, it is huge. The beach is a minutes walk from the accommodation/s with plenty of beach type activities. There are 8 bars on the site (opening/closing times differ) you pay for your drinks in the sports bar, 3 restaurants with different menu's (check opening times). Internet is available (free) but only in manar 1 building, you connect at reception or lobby bar or sports bar. Towels are also available (free) but don't lose your towel card, you will get billed. A small local market visits the hotel on Mondays with the normal pottery, carvings, clothing and cuddly toys etc. Some facilities/activities are: practise golf, football pitch, tennis courts, archery, water slides, climbing ropes, kids club, kids pool, crèche, gym, spa centre, play ground, indoor entertainment/cinema and many more. Would I go again YES, would I recommend for family's and couples YES. One thing, this is not a five * I would grade this hotel a four * and it is primarily for family's. You could visit this hotel and not spend 1 penny (dinar).

Room Tip: Upgrade to a bigger room well worth it. For me no difference between Manar 1 or 2.

This was my first time at this location and I can certainly say we will return. The location was superb, the beach beautiful, the hotel was clean and we were spoilt for choice of food with various themes each night. The staff couldn't have done enough for us. And the reps at the hotel were also excellent. I would recommend this location.

We stayed here for an 11 nights stay with my 4 year old son and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

we arrived late (1am) to the holiday village and were welcomed with drinks and food if wanted and bags bought up to our rooms. The double rooms are quite small so we upgraded to a family room which was two rooms and very spacious with a double balcony for an extra 100 quid. Well worth it

The restaurant has a new theme every night and caters for kids seperatly. Couldnt fault the food or the waiter service. We would often tip if drinks were bought over unprompted just 1 dinar here and there. Again the staff work so hard and are sooo friendly

The pool areas are great and the swim up bar a lovely touch. My only quarm is the beds are on a grassy dusty area which meant your feet got mucky. Small qripe. No need to get up early.to reserve beds with three pools and beach front beds to chose from. The beach is amazing hot sea white sands. We loved it. Never got bored plenty to do. Kids love the slides and on site park, theres so much to keeo them busy

The entertainment team work so hard and hats off to them they are amazing. To have so much energy and dedication to their job all day in 30 degree heat fair play.

We have had a truely amazing holiday and for such a short flight too its a change from Spain etc. We were very sad to leave. Myself my husband and my 4 year old son will hopefully come.back next year

thank you for such a relaxing recommended break :)

Just spent 10nights at HV Manar and was very impressed with everything about this place we stayed in Manar 2 right above the main activity pool and we were more than happy with our room and maid service (and the rooms will be better in 2014 apparently). I have obviously read a lot of reviews on this hotel and i have to say the negative comments i have read recently are a bit harsh and unfair to say the least, there are flies but they are not a major issue you will get flies in any hot country you go to and to be honest i expected it to be a lot worse, and as for safety the hotel has security everywhere who do a great job and made my family feel safe at all times also i would just like to touch on the fact that one day i left the room and forgot to put £100 my iphone and my sons ipad in the safe without realizing and the maids had been in and out all day so i probably wasted £20 on hiring a safe, food was great not amazing but very good and was available all day, breakfast was from 7:30 - 10:30 lunch 12:30 - 14:30 dinner 18:30 - 21:30 at Jasmines and had plenty of variety and different themed evenings and waiters that are amazing and cannot do enough for you and work very very hard plus there was Snack Around The World which is an outdoor snack shack that do burgers hotdogs wraps salads etc. plus sweets and you have to have a coffee there its amazing, this was open from about 12:00 to 18:00,plus there were sandwiches from 10:30 - 12:30 we also spent a few nights in the Baia Restaurant which you can use once a week as all inclusive otherwise is payable but recommended we done the steak and sofra nights there, the pools and activities and first choice team were amazing and there is plenty to do for all to get involved and the team are a lot of fun and always willing to help with a smile on their face, there was a wide range of drinks on offer however the alcohol selection wasn't the best it was beer or wine, luckily i liked the beer, you could get nice cocktails at the lobby and family bars and decent range of drinks in the sports bar (which is payable but not expensive) the family bar is Manar 2 and the barman is excellent and a real character we had a couple of drinks there every night before we went back to the room and was something we always looked forward to doing because of the friendly barman who had a good laugh with my children, the evening entertainment wasn't outstanding but was more than acceptable from a team of reps who worked very hard all day and night to keep everyone entertained, the pools were excellent i had trouble getting my boys out of them and the gardens are amazing and well looked after, the beach is fantastic all kinds of watersports, beach volleyball and football, beach bar lush sands and clear waters and always loungers available privately sectioned and well secured, this hotel really does have everything you need for a great family holiday, i would just like to finish up by saying how impressed i was with the staff who worked tirelessly around the clock keeping you safe, keeping the place spotless and waiting on you hand and foot, special mention to Sabri & Ramzi in Jasmines Anis from the pool bar, and M from the family bar top top people, would 100% return.

This was the best First Choice Holiday Village we have been on! We have
been to Cyprus and Rhodes Holiday Villages but Tunisia was the best!

My partner and I went for 2 weeks in August to September 2013 (aged 20 and
19). The hotel was lovely with plenty of bars and pools. The swim up bar
was great. What made it the best holiday was the staff. They were so
friendly, including the football coach, swimming coaches, entertainers and
the restaurant and bar staff who were lovely! The food was excellent! It
included different themes every night and the staff really went the extra
mile with the décor and uniforms! The themes even included Chinese, Mexican
and Indian – with actual spicy food! The best parts were the chocolate
pancakes for breakfast and freshly made donuts for desert! The daytime
entertainment was great, keeping us busy during the day, and the evening
entertainment was excellent for kids. We even had a beach party one evening
where there were fire breathers and a foam machine on the beach, which was
a lot of fun.

We would recommend the Quad Biking excursion as it was a lot of fun and
great value for money. We would also recommend going to the sports bar
(although drinks are charged for) for football, the evening quiz and game
nights – including cocktail making! The nightclub was open every night
until 2am, which is worth going to, although on the two nights we went it
was quite empty (although drinks are charged for). The on-site beach was fine, we didn’t actually go in the sea, but the beach was sectioned off so the hotel has its own private bit. Men selling goods and camel rides do not approach you whilst you are by the sunbeds, only if you enter the sea, which was good.

The only downside would be the hotel rooms, which I would say were 4*
rather than 5*, however they are being refurbished soon so they will
definitely be 5* in the near future! We unfortunately had some bad weather
for a couple of days and when it rains the flies come out – but there is an indoor
spa, pool and indoor entertainment arranged if there is rain. We would
recommend the hotel for families or young couples looking for a holiday
with plenty of activities and entertainment. We would definitely go again!

Smooth journey and transfers and very fast efficient check in on arrival with rooms immediately available. Staff very helpful and attentive throughout the holiday. We stayed in superior room 2325 in Manar 2 and were impressed with the size - 2 large bedrooms with stunning sea views, 2 large bathrooms, lounge and luggage storage room. Rooms a little tired and in need of updating but understand this is planned for this coming winter. Hotel immacuately clean throughout. Safe and fridge in room. Master bed huge, but mattress very firm! Manar 2 is located opposite main pool and closest to beach so ideal location.
Breakfast very good with freshly made omelettes and pancakes a big hit. Lunch available in the main restaurant or at the snack bar for those who want to eat quickly and stay in swimwear. Different theme each evening for supper with plenty of choice. Restaurant staff really friendly and welcoming and cannot do enough for you. Your glass never reaches empty !! BBQ every evening also very good. Daytime pool entertainment very good at the main pool, but can be loud and busy. Entertainment staff fab throughout! For those who want a quieter time, head for the relax pool where there is a calmer, more laid back atmosphere - and no loud music! Swimming academy located here was excellent with Chris the swimming coach giving very professional tutoring and advice. Water slides great fun for the older children & adults!
Very short walk to the stunning beach and good range of activities on offer - we had great fun on the jet skies and inflatables. Avoid the man with the camel as he will charge to let you sit on it, and then charge you again to get off!!
Hotel spa was very good - booked a 2 hour 3 treatment package and thoroughly enjoyed with the session actually lasting 2.5 hours.
Excursions are over rated and expensive. Trip to the market is hot and VERY crowded - you will get jostled and every stall holder will try to persuade you to buy from them. Haggle, haggle and then haggle some more!
We took a taxi to Yasmine Hammermet and enjoyed a nice time walking around the marina area. Good restaurants in this area. Taxi drivers certainly know how to put their foot down but added to the adventure!
The Zulu trip to Fugia Park was expensive and the food was poor. Camel rides and evening entertainment good though. NEgotiate with local taxi firms and you can go on the same trip, for a fraction of the cost.
Overall, a good holiday which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. The planned upgrading of the rooms will help increase the overall appearance of the resort.

Room Tip: If possible upgrade to a superior room - manar 2 is closest to the beach for stunning views.

Good value for money but not a 5 star! That's why first choice can sell this hotel for the price they do,because you simply are not getting a five star hotel for the money. Flies were a real problem when we were there, made it impossible to eat out side in the snack bar everyone was throwing flip flops , newspapers, magazine's trying to keep them at bay but it was impossible! Went with my two year old and just the simple task of eating an ice cream at the side of the pool was a task, either me or my wife had to stand guard while he had it keeping flies at bay! It was hard work! We had to cover him up in the pram far a nap in the afternoon because flies would be all over his face. Food was ok not the best I've ever had in an all inclusive and certainly not 5 star quality. Breakfast was same day in day out , evening meal changed daily with different themed nights which was ok. Out side bbq was good. We stayed in manar 1 the main block where reception is which wasn't too bad people talking round the pool who was in manar 2 weren't too happy saying it needed updating rooms were dirty, I wasn't in that block so I can't say for sure if its true! Tips for the staff get you a long way in this hotel, speaking to a couple one night they gave a certain life guard a couple of pounds every other day he reserved there beds every morning! Another couple gave a certain life guard a couple of pounds every time they needed there towels changing and he would go down to the towel hut and change them for them, first choice give you tokens to change your towels twice a week.you give a bar staff a couple of pounds on your first day and every time you go to the bar your drinks are poured and ready for you, no tip you join the queue. We got what we wanted out of this holiday for my 2yr old to have a bit of sun and play in the pool and on the beach if I went for the 5 star luxury first choice offer in there brochure then I wouldn't have been happy at all!!! I feel sorry for some of those families who paid top money for 2 weeks for there annual Holliday and got that! Lucky for us it was a last minute getaway and what we paid and what we got we thought was fare. The entertainment was great if you have kids under 12ish I would not like to think I was bringing teenagers here they would be board! Or young couples. The hotel is very clean and the grounds are great never once could we not get a sun bed no matter what time we got out of bed, they may not have been pool side but we got beds.beach was gorgeous sea was warm beach bar was good serving lovely butties for lunch. The only place you could get cocktails though was the lobby bar in manar 1 not pool side bar, not beach bar bit of a let down. We stayed for 1 week from 11/9/13. Would I go again?? Probably not.
