My husband, 6 year old son and I have just returned from a 7 day holiday at this resort, where we arrived there on 24th July 2013.

We had some reservations initially about booking an all inclusive package as it's not out usual choice, but as we were taking our 6 year old, we hoped that the variety would keep him occupied.

On the plus side we were allocated a family double room right by the reception (1101). The room comprised a large lounge area plus two single beds/tv plus a king sized bedroom with balcony. There were also two bath/shower rooms and toilets so lots of space. The position of the room was convenient as we were close to the restaurants and exits and away from any pool noise. The room was kept very clean with plenty of towels. Only one pillow each which seemed a little odd and very thin mattresses.

The pools and grounds are extensive and kept very clean with lifeguards and staff always on hand. Hotel guests do reserve sunbeds with their towels and we did have to spend about 20 mins each day finding three spare. Quite annoying and despite the signs to say that hotel staff would remove towels from sunbeds if they weren't used, it seemed as though guests were tipping the staff to reserve them in the first place! We found all the water in the pools to be very warm except on a particularly windy day.

The beach is a different story, much less crowded and sunbeds aplenty. The beach was beautiful, very warm water, little bar and a very nice atmosphere.

Our main issue was the food. We are not particularly fussy but do like to eat well. If you like chips and bread and generally food containing stodge and flour then you'll love it! If, however, you were hoping for grilled meats and seafood/fish and lots of salads and above all fresh food then you might be disappointed.

The breakfast is always the same served buffet style:
Pancakes (very chewy and stodgy) with either chocolate/vanilla sauce
Pastries - quite dry and poor quality
Omelettes/eggs both cooked to order - these were good
Strange sausages and sometimes bacon which was entirely fat
French toast - totally bland and no maple syrup to add
Tinned fruit and a selection of yoghurts
Edam or red leicester slices with a couple of processed ham slice options
'Diet corner' which consisted of watery yoghurt, oat flakes, dried fruits, etc
If you like cereals there seemed to be a good selection
Very good bread selection
Toast station with good selection of jams
Couple of juices and teas/coffee
As far as we could tell the breakfast selection never varied and whilst it may look substantial, they never once stocked fresh fruit which seems crazy.

We ate once in the buffet for lunch which seemed to be exactly the same as dinner, which I'll go onto shortly. For the rest of the week we ate at the snack bar next to the relax pool. Here they also always offered the same options as follows, all buffet style.

Turkey enchillades
Hot dogs
Hamburgers
Chicken nuggets
Chips
You could put any of the above combinations into a sandwich and have it toasted
Fresh fruit (hooray!)
Bread selection
Small salad selection which generally consisted of a bowl of shredded red cabbage, bowl of sliced green peppers, bowl of sliced tomatoes and then bowls of horrible olives and the smallest gherkins I've ever seen - very poor quality.
Pizza selection - always burnt with minimal toppings

The snack bar did offer an ice cream station which was very good.

There was always a selection of cakes which looked good but you soon realised that they all tasted the same and were definitely bought in probably from frozen.

The evening buffet meals also lacked variety and whilst there was always a theme - Tunisian night, wedding night?, Europe night, etc., the actual food didn't differ dramatically. You could always have chips and spaghetti Bolognese. Bread selection as always plus fresh fruit and the usual cakes. The bbq outside was sometimes ok. We had beef steak a couple of times which was quite nice but very overcooked and very chewy. We had tuna another time and it tasted nothing like tuna. The waiters were very good and attended quickly with drinks, etc, although there is obvious tipping going on were waiters 'reserved' tables for certain diners which seemed a bit ridiculous given the amount of space available.

There are the other restaurants which you can book but we didn't try any of them.

Overall we had an ok week, the weather was amazing, staff very helpful and complex very clean. Lots of things for children to do, although our son was very much looking forward to the high ropes but after day 2 of our holiday they were out of order so we never got to try them.

Main issue was the food - all of it was overcooked (the hotel is food poisoning paranoid), and the majority of it, we are sure, was cooked from frozen.

We won't be going back and probably will never do another all inclusive. As another reviewer has said, it's basically like Butlins abroad and certainly shouldn't be graded more than a 3 star hotel.

Room Tip: Double family rooms have lots of space, two bathrooms and toilets and comfortably sleep 4.

Stayed at the Holiday Village Manar from 17th to 29th July. Arrived on a very busy wednesday, there was a slight mix up with our room which was resolved within 10 mins due to our surname being Jones and 4 other Jones families checking in I could easily understand the issue.

Our room was amazing spot less and had everything we needed. It was a family den room which had no balcony but did have a sea view.

The grounds of this hotel are amazing kept immaculate at all times.

Food was plentiful and catered for every palate we were spoilt for choice.

We spent most of our days at the lively pool which was so much fun lots of activities going on all the time for all ages.

The first choice team where so well organised and made the holiday such an enjoyable time.

The hotel staff are so professional at all times always happy and smiling and get to know you so quickly.

Didn't want to leave and would and have recommended this resort to friends with children.

Well done to all working there they do a fantastic job.

If you have kids under the age of eight you kids will love this place. Biggest gripe is that first choice advertises this as five star. Its nice three star hotel with buffet restaurants. The pools are nice, service is good and you can always find a sun lounger, Note you need to get up at 7am to put your towel down for the sun lounger.

This hotel is a nice 3 star hotel Poor 4 star and to advertise it as a five star is a joke….. Depending on price paid this hotel can be a bargain. If you book early and get a free kids place then this hotel is good value. However you can book nice genuine five star hotels via web sites http://www.sovereign.com( a first choice sister company). My advice is don’t book this hotel if you are after luxury because its not. If you are after good swimming pool and good kids entertainment then this is a nice hotel . If you are after a proper five star hotel have a look at the Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort, Playa Blanca.

Whilst hotel is nice the rest of the surrounding area is a dump! Not a lot to see or do outside the hotel. When say dump I mean it the town and country is poverty stricken and the place looks like a building site/crossed with a tip.

Overall under £600 a person this is a fair hotel and great for kids. I would not pay more than £600 a person for this hotel.

Travelled from luton on 21/07/13 for 7 nights. 4 adults, 2 children age 2 & 10 yrs.

Chose this hotel based on the great price & had previously stayed at HV Turkey.

First impressions were that the hotel was a little dated, this was soon irrelevant, stepping out in the huge outdoor pool area walking towards manar 2 building. The grounds are stunning & very well kept. Our room was perfectly clean, as was every area of the hotel, even the pool area toilets, spotless. I knew we were in for a nice holiday.

We all ate very well, the food was very good, lots of choice & fresh. We ate out on the outdoor terrace over the pool every night & no Mosquitos! :) Dietary requirements can be accommodated, we contacted the hotel in advance.

The pools were all very clean & life guards are present most of the time. The slides are great for all, kept us all amused! Early risers got the best spots for bathing, however staff will always help you find a spot.

Pool bar offered drinks & snacks, very clean & of a decent standard (we used this at lunchtime rather than changing to go to main restaurant). 1.5 litre bottles of water to take to your sunbed are available here.

We did not use kids clubs, but those who did were pleased with everything.

We stayed in the lobby bar in the evening, didn't go to the amphitheatre.
All the drinks were good. Genuine branded soft drinks from bottles. Alcohol tasted nice as opposed to like paint stripper, that we've had at previous AI hotels.

We used the beach, unheard of for me, but it is stunning, once again very clean & right on the edge of the hotel gardens. Beach bar serving drinks & sandwiches, plenty of sunbeds, security & good value water sports.

We had such a great holiday, all of the staff here work extremely hard to make your holiday what it is. I have never experienced hospitality like it. 1st class. All guests were very pleasant, a nice atmosphere around the place. The hotel is due a makeover ready for summer 2014. I can't wait to see the reveal, we've already booked for next August. Best value for money & an overall terrific hotel.

Would recommend room with sea view.

For those looking for a family holiday in beautiful surroundings, stunning beach, great food, fun for all, this is for you. Resort is five star. The hotel is not 5 star like a Hilton in the uk, however if that's what you're after then first choice holiday villages are way too family orientated for you.

Try it! You'll love it! :-)

Room Tip: Depending on budget, would highly recommend sea view room.
