I Have just got back from a week at this hotel. the food apart from breakfast was great. breakfast was disgusting i went for the first day and didnt bother after that. i managed to find a bar round the corner that did much nicer food.

most of the bar staff were rude and did not like the English. however the Waiter called Samir and the Bar Manager were always very friendly and had a big smile. the restaurant staff were very polite and friendly. however with the general staff there was a fight on the last night and not one of the staff or security bothered to step in and stop it it was left up to a couple of us who were still up having a quite drink in the bar.

the day time entertainment was very good there was always things to do. the evening enterainment generally had a lot to be desired. the only half decent entertainment was the Michael Jackson tribute put on by the entertainers.

the rooms were kept very clean and were very tight if you had more than 2 people in the room. if you do have the misfortune to het a room above the entertainment part there is no chance of getting any sleep beofre about 2:30am. as the disco goes on and people stand outside shouting to eachother.

the genral hotel facilities were very good. the beach was good.

My husband and I visited this hotel in July. We arrived late and were very very impressed with the reception, couldn't wait to see our room. We paid for a sea view but was given a room with a view of the car park, we went to reception and they gave us another room but this had twin beds. They said they didn't have a double room with a sea view so they put the beds together with double bed over under the sheet holding them together!!!
The rooms are clean, an ok size but not very well presented, nothing matches and don't expect a double bed.

The doors and walls are very thin, you hear everything from the room next door from the toilet habits to the sound them opening their safety deposit box. When people come back in the early hours you hear every drunken word!

The public areas of the hotel and the staff are brilliant. The food is good and the pools lovely.

The rooms just let it down. Come on Phenicia sort out the rooms, it wouldn't take much.

This is our 9th visit to an Iberostar resort which we generally find of a very good standard and we were not disappointed with the Iberostar Phenicia. I had sent an email before our arrival to clarify some things but got no response. As a rule returning guests are acknowledged in every resort I have been to but sadly not here. When we have visited resorts before there has been exchange facilities between resorts but not here. We were told we would have to pay. I found this slightly disappointing as it could well make the difference between us returning to Tunisia though to another resort although in the same chain. If Iberostar would like to comment I would be interested in their general policy regarding this.

Guests were a mixture of eastern Europeans, French and British.

FLIGHTS

Check in at Gatwick without incident and flight left of time. Extremely efficient check in at Monastir on the return journey. The real downside to the flight was the extremely limited legroom on the flight. When the person in front reclines their seat they might as well be sitting on your knee. Also can be problematic if you happen to be seated next to a reasonably large person. We travelled with Thomas Cook.

TRANSFER

Efficient. Tour reps are waiting after customs and direct you to the appropriate coach which is air conditioned. The trip down to Hammamet takes about 1 hour 30 and give you an opportunity to see some of the countryside. The tour rep (Tracey) was very informative during the journey.

CHECK IN

Each group is directed to a seating area to complete their registration forms rather than forming a queue and given a lovely cooling drink after the journey. At this point someone directs you to your room after identifying your luggage. Luggage will be delivered to your room a short time later.

ROOMS

Small, pleasant and kept clean with a change of towels daily. Overlooked small pool. Hanging space adequate but no drawers. Room cleaned to a high standard daily.

FOOD

The food at this hotel was generally of a very high standard. What should be hot was hot and cold was cold. There was always a good variety and plenty of local dishes which was great. Lots of places we have been, the hotel has good ingredients but does little with them. The staff from chefs to wait staff were friendly, efficient and do a good job. The Food and Beverage Manager was always visable wherever you went to eat at whatever time of the day and little seemed to get past him. This was probably the 9th visit we have made to an Iberostar hotel and I would like to think we are quite discerning. We have visited Tunisia before though not stayed at an Iberostar and this was much much better.

There is an A La Carte restaurant which you can access for one visit during your stay and if you want to go again you will have to pay for it. Trust me you will not go twice. It was very poor. The buffet restaurant is much superior. One couple seated beside us were unimpressed with the a la carte and attempted to leave. The waiter was not happy about this and reseated them.

DRINKS

Locally produced wine: white, red and rose. If it is well chilled it is passable but nothing to write home about. Cocktails are available but there is no list as such. There is a daily cocktail in the bar area at about 5.30. Generally average and very sweet. Beer is cold but again nothing to write home about.

BEACH

Lovely beach and plenty of Palapas, at least when we there. Have to be early in the morning to get one at the front. Beach loungers are comfortable and when you select your spot, a mattress will be placed for you and brushed down. Beach guys like to be rewarded for their effort. Towels can be obtained from Reception for a deposit of 20 dinars which is refundable when you return your towels on the final day. You can change your towel for a clean one at your convenience.

ENTERTAINMENT

Most of the daytime entertainment seems to take place around the large pool and was little in evidence on the beach apart from Volleyball and Exercise so can’t comment too much on it.

Evening entertainment. Shows in the Theatre. We attended on one evening and were not particularly impressed. Music in the Reception area was much better but nobody got up and danced which was a shame.

TIPS

Not compulsory as it is all inclusive but are appreciated.

WOULD I GO BACK?

Yes.
