“Not all was perfect at Phenicia”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

We stayed at the Phenicia for 7 days as part of a Thomas Cook package. The only complaint that we have was with the bedroom that was far too small for a family of 3 with the result that there wasn't much room to move around between beds and the room was at the lowest level with an excellent view into the bushes and trees. We made several complaints that the television and fridge didn't work. This problem was never rectified during our stay. We also had a problem with the sink and bath drains not working and this was rectified by the one man and his plunger on several occasions. Other than that we were satisfied with all of the other services
Extras to avoid :- free guided tour of Medina as its a con to get you into a carpet shop and the Barbecue at the Shakespeare pub as it was a disaster.

Room Tip: Try your best to get a room with a view and ensure that the room facilities are in working order

18 of us travelled from Scotland to Tunisia for my mums 50th on the 26th aug 2012. It took a while to decide on a destination trying to please so many people! We reluctantly settled on Tunisia after hearing so many mixed reviews. The flight was 3.5 hours and the transfer was only about 30mins which was great.
The reception and lounge areas are lovely nice and bright with lovely modern decor. We were taken to the large entertainment room and given a cool flannel and drink and room keys. Our luggage was brought to our room by the porter.
We paid for a safe but a staff member has to show you how to work it (and he hovered for a tip which was a bit awkward the first time!)
The room was nice and clean with a balcony table and chairs and a lovely view over Yasmin hammamet. Large flat screen tv plenty storage space and good sized bathroom(bath and shower) also air con (didn't need it at night as it got cool)And a fridge.
We travelled with a 9month old so we had a cot in our room which was an average sized wooden one which she slept in fine.
As there was so many of us it was impossible to get sun loungers so we pitched our towels at the "quiet" pool, the poor people round it were clearly not happy but we weren't too rowdy! It was nice next to the wee shop and the pool goes indoors if you fancy a swim. It's a wee walk from there if you want a drink though up into main lobby or through to the main pool bar.
There is a salon / gym which offers massage, beauty treatments Turkish bath henna etc. we got hennas but they didn't last long at all a few days.
People are out early with there towels so bare this in mind. Our last few days we spent at the main pool which we enjoyed so much more. Music, a better pool and just so much more happening. Easier access if you wanted a drink which you will need in the hot weather.it was high 30s most days. Saying this, if you are travelling with children they all seemed to be great with the heat. My little girl was paid so much attention by the staff and all the other kids at the hotel always cuddling and speaking to her it was really friendly.
There is a walk way from here to the beach where there is a beach bar and comfy seating areas. Plenty loungers etc on the beach. Also a camel that sits there for most of the day,the man tries to charge you even if you want a photo. Keep your shades on and ignore him 8) the sea was lovely for a swim.
My auntie and uncle did the paragliding which they loved and paid around 40dinar each which was £16 each.
You can walk along either way but it's mostly just other hotels along the sea line. It's quite a walk to yasmin or hammamet but you can get a taxi from the hotel I never paid more than 6dinar but some family did so say your price before getting in.
We went to the medina in Yasmin. Great for all the fakes but hard work all the haggling though it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We went twice! And to the shopping centres where the prices are set,but we still haggled.(scottish) We also went to the small aqua park there it was crap, unless you are taking small children. Apparently the big ones in hammamet. There's an English bar at the start of the medina too. If you get a chance go on a took took (scary)
The food in the hotel- breakfast there is a man making fresh omelets crepes scrambled eggs etc. cereals, not like home but the milk was nice. Fresh croissants and pan au chocolate, toast jam nutella meats cheeses. Cooked breakfast was sausages but they were skinny herby ones or hotdog like ones boiled egg tomatoes no bacon or anything. Still a good selection in my opinion. Good fruit juices fresh made smoothies Nescafé.
Lunch was a different selection every day. They always had a man making fresh pasta spag Bol and fresh fish dishes. We favoured going down to the beach hut as we tipped the pizza man and he made us fresh pizzas with whatever topping. They were delicious. They had mostly the same selection down there. Theres also a bbq every day.It was always busy though and the waiters were rushed off there feet so we sometimes waited quite a while for drinks cutlery etc.(not great with a baby) we were always able to feed the baby with there food as well which I was worried about. There was always fresh melon and plenty ice cream!
At night we ate in the main buffet resteraunt you get allocated the same table and waiter for the duration of your stay.we tipped him 10dinar every night as a group and every night our drinks were poured and ready for us arriving.he was very good and pleasant. there are 2sittings one at 7pm 1at 8.30pm. The pizza pasta man was in here too and he made brilliant spaghetti Bol or pasta. There was always meat fish etc a good choice but like any all inc it did get repetitive.
We went to the alacarte it's a set menu it was very nice. They let me decorate round our table for my mums birthday and they decorated the table with flowers and made a cake which was really nice quiet and relaxed. The waiters were brilliant.
The moorish shisha bar is nice,we gave it a go. It's 4dinar for one and it's just like a flavoured steam thing, people find it relaxing though it doesn't have anything in it.
The animation team were great. They work all day and all night trying to keep people entertained. I've never had such a choice of activities during the day. Yoga,Zumba, archery, aqua aerobics, salsa dancing, belly dancing, darts, table tennis waterpolo. They were not pushy at all if you didn't want to do it they took no for an answer. fi fi jambo and the boss(big Chris we called him cause he looks like someone from home) all the team were great. My little sisters a dancer and they had her up for a dance off. They called her jambo number 2!
My family weren't too keen on the shows and preferred to sit up at the pool bar for a few drinks. I liked them though, just different tastes. It rained for two days and even on those days the entertainment team were out making sure everyone was happy. The pool party was the best. we experienced two, they do a show then everyone has a party in the pool. We didn't understand why they didn't do it more often as it was the best nights!!
The beer wasn't as strong as home the white wine was nice and I drank vodka grenadine and lemonade in a tall glass cause it's too strong otherwise!! Cocktails weren't the best I liked vodka sun I've got a sweet tooth. Def something for everyone.
All in all we enjoyed our time at phenicia it's a lovely clean hotel with hard working staff that deserve to be tipped. I found it a bit busy at meal times but it was great value for money. We would def go back just the three of us as 18 was a bit much!
Thanks very much to all the staff especially our lovely cleaner, our waiter, pizza man, jambo fi fi and big chris(the boss) xxx

Just back from a wonderful week. The animation team are just brilliant all thanks to the boss man! Saving up to come back already! Managed to get a copy of the entertainment CD which we are listening to constantly. Loved water aerobics with Adam and Aldo, not to mention zumba with Bebo and belly dancing with Maria. See you next year! Harry xx

Room Tip: View of our room was not brilliant but it did not detract from the holiday.

This was my 4th visit to the Phenicia, and the hotel never once disappointed me. On two previous occasions, I went with my son, Kai (Little King of Africa) and everybody remembered him - it was mentioned to me on more than one occasion that I should have brought him with me this time too (alas I needed a well earned break, hence me travelling alone)!!

It was the best decision I could have made. I met some wonderful people who only enhanced what was an already brilliant break - so a big thank you goes out to Carly, Emily & Matt, Elaine, Pam & Nicky, Ruth & Kevin, Kennedy, Demi & BRYAN(!) (and Kennedy's family).

Once again, the Animation Team pulled out all the stops to keep the guests entertained. I can't thank them enough for looking after me and making it one of the best holidays I've ever had. Special mention goes to Amine (The Champ), Aldo, Dido, Bebo, Adam, Pepito, Mouse, Didi, Kimo, Maria & last, but not least, my friend Tata (we shed a few tears together). If I've missed anyone out, I apologise.

Also, thank you to Ahmed & Marwen from the stables - I had a great ride on Mirage and am looking forward to seeing you both again next April.

I had a single room above Le Panache restaurant - it was quiet at night (which is a must for me) and the size of the room was good too.

Once again the food was excellent - there was always something for everyone. Mega apologies to the waiters - I left without leaving a tip - will make it up to you when I come out next Easter.

The weather for this time of year was great (low - mid 80s) and the pool was freezing! Mind you, it's the only time my waist shrinks to 18", so it has some benefits!

I've already booked for next Easter, this time with Kai - he misses everyone as much as they miss him!

Once again - I would fully recommend this hotel to anyone, and if anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me via Trip Advisor.

Love you guys - keep well and keep doing what you do best - keeping your guests entertained!

Spent two fantastic weeks at the Phenicia. Everyone was so friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The entertainment team did a fabulous job, dont miss comedy night, it was so funny. You can make your holiday as energetic or as laid back as you want. Great choice of food Special hello to Radwen, the local rep who is getting married on the 28th Oct, hope everything goes well. We will be returning next year and look forward to seeing all the gang especially our waiter Messoud.

Room Tip: I had heard so many negative reports about Tunisia but we thought we would give it a try. So please...

The title above reflects our view on our holiday. Hammamet is a great resort and this visit (being our fifith) shows how much we enjoy ourselves here. Tunis is 2.5 hours from Heathrow and the hotel is about 50 minutes drive from Tunis airport. On arrival, the hotel staff could not be more friendly and helpful, many are dressed national costume. The makeup of the guests ranges from young couples to families to the senior couples, which makes for a good mix. The rooms are fine-although a few more drawers would have been helpful, but this is only a minor complaint. The restaurants and bars serve good wholesome food and drink - considering they are dealing with many nationalities. However there are always Tunisian specialities available at dinner, and these are often very good. One good thing is that they have introduced separate sittings (at 6.30 and 8pm). Previously, we often had to share tables with other guests. The bars are waiter served, but you can also queue at the bar at busy times. Most people tend to dress for dinner. There is a waiter served restaurant (Panache) together with a more recently opened Chinese restaurant (Le Dragon). Both are certainly worth a visit. Evening entertainment is cheerfully enthusiatic with most evenings featuring shows of one type or another. There is a bar here as well, serving until 2am.
The outdoor areas are very pretty with palm trees planted all over the resort. This gives a feeling of being in an oasis. The best bit however is the beach. Well laid out with plenty of sun beds, there is no need to go down at dawn and place towels on the beds. The beach is very sandy with a gentle slope into the sea which is also quite sandy underfoot.
There is plenty to do during the day- hosted by the entertainments team. Horse riding along the beach, archery, tennis, pilates etc are only a few, together with the usual jetskis and other sea going fun beds.
A shop is present selling a variety of goods, (you can hire beach towels here, 20 dinars deposit that is returned when you come to the end of your holiday), together with a reasonably well equipped gym and a spa for saunas and massage (at extra cost).
Are there complaints? Not really. It is difficult to find fault at this hotel- if all you want is a nice getaway from it all family beach holiday. if you want to go to the main town or the new development at Hammamet Jasmine, then you will need to take a taxi - which can be bit hairy- Tunisian taxi drivers are not the best in the world!!
As I said above , this is our fifth visit, although the first since Sentido took over from Iberostar. The high standards have been maintained and we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a very nice beach holiday.

Just came back from holiday in Phenicia and had an amazing time!!! Service was fantastic beggining from friendly receptionists and porters, waiters, bar staff and finishing with entertainment team that did an amazing job to keep everyone happy. There was plenty to choose from belly dancing, water exercises, yoga, zumba and volleyball on the beach with sexy Didi :-). There is an excellent horse riding centre just by the hotel and it is just amazing!!! We will definitely come back next year!!!! Don't listen to any bad comments! Food is amazing and plenty to choose from, rooms need updating but it doesn't matter as you don't spend lots of time in in the rooms anyway!!!
