“Excellent food, fantastic relaxing time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2012

Travelled from B'ham airport 6am flight. Could not have been smoother. All on time and comfortable.

If you want a relaxing holiday and to be very well looked after this is the place to go.
Spotlessly clean communal areas, amazing choice and quality of food and fantastic waiter service.

Thanks to the animation team including Nina, Fifi, Nemo, Amira, Sara, Zico (Number One Bingo man) and Bamboucha who work very hard both in the day with activities that include french boules, archery, darts (that turned into a dancing competition followed by musical statues!), crazy golf, aerobics, pilates, walking the list goes on... Also providing us with a show every night including Michael Jackson, Abba, Irish Dancing and songs from
the Shows. How they remember all the moves, or have the energy I have no idea. Their boss, who's catchphrase is "Show Time," captures it all.

We walked right out of the back of the hotel along the beach to Yassmin Hammamet, where we came across a lovely marina with some fixed price shops and a choice of many lovely restaurants. Definately worth a visit. Walk the other way, to hammamet, and be prepared for some hassle.

Beach vendors were persitant, but not aggresive and a polite and sometimes firm "no" makes them leave you alone, so don't be put off. (Although wouldn't leave anything lying around whilst swimming in the sea etc as we had a disappearing Tshirt incident).

General impressions of the hotel - The hotel looks impressive from the entrance and well kept. The reception is large and spotlessly clean and polished. The communal toilets are immaculate at all times.

Rooms - The room was immacuate and was serviced every day to a high standard. Our balcony overlooked the side, with a partial seaview and we experienced no problems with noise when trying to sleep. We have a question over the air conditioning, as the temperature during the night meant it wasn't really needed, but when we turned it on during the day (room 3041), it didn't seem to function. Having said that, we didn't feel it a big problem and so didn't report this.
The TV in the room had BBC News in English and Tunisian NBC channel 2, which showed English language movies all day and were of good quality. Decor could have been of a higher standard, however you don't go on this kind of holiday to spend loads of time in your room! There is a mini fridge in the room to chill soft drinks and a hairdryer - so you don't need to pack this. And a good quality safe also, which we used, but didn't feel was absolutely necessary.

The bar service was second to none. The senior waiter in the pool bar (Mami I think) speaks fluent english, French, German and Arabic plus more, and is a real character when you get to know him. Highly attentive and accommodating with a great humourous personality. The rest of the bar staff were also very good. The alcohol can seem a little low on vol. which will mean you will like to experiment different beverage options! The beer is only 2.5% The spirits don't seem much more, so always ask for a double! The trick to getting drunk, we discovered was to start drinking the white wine...and continue...

Food - Amazing choice. Whatever you like will be available from fresh salad and bread, to fish, beef stew, lasagne, cottage pie, couscous and Tunisian specials, Roast meats carved in front of you, pasta cooked for you with whatever spices you want in there and of course chips and pizza is also available. Be prepared to put on a few pounds. Not that we ever had enough space for it, but there was also a massive choice of sweets and cheese and biscuits and the crepes from 2.30pm are a delicacy. From the 6th of May there was also a BBQ for lunch and within the next few weeks they will open the beach restaurant. (There is an al a carte restaurant which you can book once for free and also a Chinese 3 course restaurant - for £9 - both absolutely delicious).
We were allocated the same table for dinner every day and had the same waiter (Mrad) who was always there to greet us, never let our glasses run low on drink and was overall extremely attentive and kind. He was even sometimes there to greet us for breakfast.

We went with Thomas Cook and they have the whole package from check in to departure absolutely seemless. Lucy, our rep, was fantastic. She didn't push any excursions on us, but gave us good, solid, sound advice on the hotel and the broader aspects of holidaying in Tunisia.

The two pools were spotlessly clean and maintained excetionally well.

The bad reviews we have read are totally unfounded and unfair. No idea where these people have been on holiday before.

Last point, as the hotel was only 1/3 occupied in this off peak period, we can whole heartedly recommend this holiday to anyone. It would have been nice to have had a sea view room as they were available, but the hotel wanted to charge extra.

In summary, we spent 10 days in mid twenty degree temperatures, ate like kings, drank like fish, enjoyed the social scene and didn't want to leave. Overall, a wonderful holiday. Thank you to everyone we will definately come back.

just returned from a week at the staying at the Sentido with friends Had a really good time Hotel, food, staff, weather excellant We were treated like friends from the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble We tipped our evening waiter at the begining of our stay and he was there to pull our chairs out and to have a cariffe of rosey wine chilling at our table (to be constantly refreshed)Food varied and very fresh The annimation team worked hard at keeping plenty to do if you wanted We had a go at archery-great fun The evening cabaret by the annimation team was good, just the way to spend an hour after dinner Rooms were very clean and tidy if a little tired The staff never made us feel we had to tip them (except the the man on the beach) The only fault we could find was the very rude and grumpy lady in the shop
We would all be happy to return

Room Tip: Higher floors on front

We first stayed at the Phenicia in 1973, the year it first opened, and at a time when Tunisia was a relatively new holiday destination. In those days we were a young courting couple and the Phenicia was viewed as one of Tunisia’s top hotels. To us it was a rather special holiday, and one which very much lived up to our expectations and also left us with lots of fond memories.

In 2011 (some 38 years later) after having looked through some old photo albums and having run out of places to visit we thought it might be fun to see how much Tunisia had changed and also maybe stay at the Phenicia once again. We decided it would be a nice way to spend the wife’s birthday and booked a weeks holiday for the end of June 2011. It turned out to be a wise choice.

The modern day Phenicia far exceeded our expectations and what was intended to be a “trip down memory lane” soon turned out to be a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The extensive and newly planted gardens had now matured and formed a beautiful walkway down to that lovely clean beach and clear waters we remembered so well. The hotel had been tastefully extended, much in keeping with the original building, but with vastly improved facilities and a second pool added. We were more than impressed the first time we visited, but this time even more so.

On arrival check in was smooth and efficient, we were greeted with and sat down to a cold refreshing drink, while a porter took our bags to our room and we completed the hotel registration form. On our first visit to the main restaurant the head waiter allocated us “our table” and “our waiter” for the duration of our stay. Like all of his colleagues, he could not have been more attentive or polite and on the wife’s birthday our table was dressed with a garland of fresh flowers and she was presented with a birthday cake at the table (we’d never mentioned her birthday and the hotel must have picked it up from the registration form).

The food was always well presented, varied and delicious, no matter where we ate in the hotel meal times were a pleasure and we were always spoilt for choice. The only downside was that we did manage to put on a few pounds, but with such tempting looking sweets it’s an easy trap to fall into. The Dragon restaurant is a definite “do not miss”, as are the freshly prepared breakfast omelettes and the afternoon crepes.

The only let down to the whole holiday experience was that it went far too quickly and a one week stay was simply not long enough. So much so that when we returned home we immediately booked a further 2 weeks for September 2011.

When we returned in September we were greeted like long lost friends and how on earth the hotel staff manage to remember anyone’s face when they see so many during the year is beyond me.

Throughout both of our stays we found the entire hotel staff, reception, porters, pool/beach attendants, waiters and cleaners warm, polite and obliging. As has been said in so many other reviews, the animation team were absolutely amazing, to the extent that they managed, in a very unobtrusive manner, to get a couple slightly past their prime involved in the daily activities in and around the main pool. And we’re so glad that they did, because we enjoyed every single moment of it.

If you’re looking for a holiday which is relaxing without being boring, a hotel where the food and service are first class and nothing is too much trouble for the staff then you really need not look any further than the Phenicia and this is pretty clear from the large number of return visitors which they get each year.

The bottom line is we enjoyed both our visits in 2011 so much, that when I asked the wife were she’d like to go for her birthday this year she said “This may sound crazy, but I’d like to go back to the Phenicia again !!!”.

So this year we’ll be back on 27th June for 2 weeks, but this time we’ll be bringing some friends along too. It looks like we’re in real danger of joining the “Phenicia Back Again Club” LOL.

Ciao!! Me and my friend come back over a week ago and only memories and nice tan is remaining. We were having awesome time!! First of all, thought its gonna be lazy time ... all holiday lying on the beach and doing nothing ( that last for 2 days!!) Rest of the time we had fantastic time provided by entertained team! They are so easy going and cheerful people who seems to be never tired!! Loads of fun guaranteed! Archery, French balls, mini golf, horses, aerobic, dance nights, karaoke, fakiri, bingo, draw ( won the biggest shisha ever!!! ;) comedy shows, watching them dancing seems as watching Chicago musical. Fantastic!! The best was volleyball tournaments as our team never lost!! ;D
All vegs and fruits were so tasty, food was fabulous! Staff members who were looking after us at our table (lunch/dinner time) are without replacement!! Big thanks to the best barman who kept us always in good mood (night entertainment bar) ;D
In addition, I would really recommend this hotel to all the generations. Wish could be back there soon. Thanks guys!! Ciao!
Regards
Natalia & Beppe

Room Tip: Best rooms are on the west side (sunny balcony in the afternoon and nice moon during the night)

We arived on Sunday and we were welcomed like long lost friends. Last year we came in July and we had a great time, so we knew we had to come back. So far the party has started once again and we are having a ball. All members of staff from cleaners, bars staff, pool guy, gardeners, reception staff and entertainment team give 100%. Don't go near the camels on the beach as they will lift you on and charge you to sit on the camel. We will be back and intend to tell our friends all about this hotel. Well done the Phenicia.
