“Nowhere near as bad as people are saying.”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

Having stayed at the Dar Khayam for a week, i was very shocked to come back and see these reviews from people there at the same time.
After a 45 minute transfer to the hotel from the airport, me and my partner were pleasantly surprised. Check in was quick and easy and we found our room in no time. The room was comfortable and cleaned daily, with fresh towels and bedding.
Food- At breakfast on our first day we were allocated our seats in the dining room and were told this is where all of our meals would be. This wasn't an issue for us as we got to meet more couples, or as we ate late in the evenings we had the table to ourselves. Quality and variety of food was really good, didn't struggle to have a different option every day. The comment off someone that all there is to eat everyday is chips is ridiculous.
We did eat out one evening but this was at the suggestion of the holiday rep. The Bella Marina restaurant was lovely and very romantic. We had a bottle of wine, water and lager and two courses each (one being fillet steak) and it came to only £35ish. Would definitely recommend as a treat.
The hotel and pool area were clean, as was the beach. The all inclusive drinks are the same as many places i've gone. Queues weren't really an issue.
The entertainment was a bit rubbish, but it is a family hotel and therefore is aimed at the children/family. We just took it for what it was and had a laugh with it.
I would definitely recommend this hotel as a cheap get away. Was more than worth the money we paid to go. Regarding tips, it's the same as any holiday destination. If you give your waiter a little tip at the beginning of the week there'll be a bottle of wine/water waiting on your table for dinner everyday. Surely its worth it?
If i wanted another cheap get away for a bit of sun, i would definitely consider going back to Dar Khayam.

Like other reviewers, I was very dubious about this hotel having read bad reviews. However, for the money we paid it was good value. Hotel is basic but rooms were v.clean. There were 3 adults and 1 child in our party and all (particularly 5 yr old) had a great time. Food left a bit to be desired but there was always something that we liked and we were never hungry. We did not suffer from stomach upsets and we ate salad (which we were told was washed with bottled water) and had ice in our drinks. Waiters appreciated small tip and we had good service with wine and water waiting for us when we ate. Pool very clean. Few flies around bbq area but nothing too worrying. Music too loud round pool in afternoon but beach as an alternative was great. Not as clean as could be but didn't put us off going. Animation team were very pushy on first day trying to sell trips but after that left us alone and were very friendly. They put on good shows in evening. All in all - money well spent.

Room Tip: Single storey accommodation (bungalows) are in quieter part of hotel and recommended.

went for a week (2 couples) to the dar khayam hotel 11th oct and was a little bit dubious having seen some reviews from a little earlier but there was no need to have worried as we all had afab time ,no tummy upsets or any illnesses at all, we didn't ever go hungry or thirsty nor did we get bored,we paid £300 pp for this week and we all thought that it was good value for our money.
we were give a table for our stay and we thought that it worked well as we never had to worry about finding a seat ,we also enjoyed having a different conversation with other guests over meals.all in all we enjoyed our stay and yes we would go back again to this hotel.
thanks to everyone who helped to make our holiday so enjoyable.!!!!!

The hotel looks nice on arrival but we found the service to be poor. Porter and cleaner both demanded tips. The food was very poor we were both feeling ill by day three, food was often cold or undercooked. We were told where to sit for our meals. Beds were ok but not very comfortable,
The site was being tidied while we were there and looked quite nice but there was a strong smell of sewerage around the pathway to the beach. We have already booked a holiday to a different hotel for June next year wouldn't have gone there again otherwise.

Had a 7 night stay at dar khayam after reading reviews before i went was not looking forward to holiday.Stayed in bungalow room 20yds from beach could not fault room clean and tidy.Nice beach could do with cleaning daily but ok.Restaraunt looked clean enough to me only the odd fly,Food perfectly acceptable simlar menu daily i had beef twice a day which i thought was good. They do freshly made pizzas at night they are great the restaurant staff are good bring you a bottle of water and wine more if you want it. Breakfast was ok i found the sliced bread a bit dry even worse when toasted must be how they make it.The pool area was ok music a bit loud for me so went to beach daily.Reception area nice and clean, staff helpful did not care for porter he did not think 2 dinar was enough for showing us to our room we carried our cases.
I thought for a 3 star hotel it was good value for money and would recomend it .I do not know how people have had upset stomachs or complaim about flies i never heard of anyone have one during my stay. Excellent holiday.

I was very anxious about visiting Dar Khayam after the terrible reviews, but our experience was totally different. I'm a fussy eater but I enjoyed most of the food - lots of pasta, rice, cous cous, salads, beef stew, fish, chips, veg, potatoes, chicken, crepes, fruit, pizza, cakes! No need to eat outside the hotel as some people complained. We weren't able to get sealed bottled water between mealtimes, so make sure you stock up in the restaurant - they were always happy to get a few extra for us.

Remember that you are in a Muslim country and you should cover up a bit outside of the hotel (men and women)! However, I still felt uncomfortable by some of the men's comments etc and they grabbed one member of our party.

Anthony (TC rep) told us the waterslides at Omar Khayam were shut and that we should have been told this by TC when we booked. A few hours before we were due to leave we found out they were still open and had been the whole time! Very disappointing for big kids like us!

Lovely beach and pools, and A/C in our room for most of the day and all night. Towels/bedding changed as required. Overall very good value for money for a last minute deal.

Yes the staff were good IF you tipped them. The food and dining room was disgusting. After only 48 hours there i got food poison. Missed a whole week of my stay as i was so ill. Room not done on a daily basis. This was meant to be a holiday to remember for my 70th birthday. And it WAS but all for the wrong reasons.

Room Tip: Just don't go.
