After reading some of the reviews before our holiday, we was rather concerned what we had done by choosing this hotel. We needn't of worried at all, arrived at 1-45am shown to two rooms both clean and tidy given a bottle of sealed water for both rooms on arrival and every bottle of water we asked for was sealed. Awoke next morning to a seaview, we also overlooked the entertainment, yes it is loud but you are on holiday and if we had gone to rooms before it had finished it had stopped by midnight. Staff were always pleasent and didn't expect a tip before being polite. There is plenty of choice of food, all allinclusive food becomes repetitive if you let it. You are sat at same table with same waiter all holiday. Both our company at table and waiter was very nice he also new what drinks we wanted after day 1. Spent most of our time on the beach pedalo and canoes were free to hotel guests, used sister hotel slides once. Booked three trips with thomas cook rep, american dream, welcome tour and Tunis all day trip all very enjoyable. We had a fantastic holiday and would definitely like to return.

my husband and I stayed at the dar khayam for 2 weeks arriving on 26/9/2013 and leaving on 9/10/2013.
absolutely fantastic from start to end. our room was ready and after unpacking, we went to bed. when we woke up, the sun was streaming in and the views from our room was breathtaking...we saw the sun rise every morning.
the hotel staff were absolutely brilliant and extremely friendly. the food, yes was a bit repetitive at times but always something good to eat with Tunisian food available too. I was not ill once which is a huge plus as I have always been ill on previous holidays. the waiters were friendly, helpful and never expected a tip, despite what others have said.
Our room was cleaned on a daily basis and only asked for clean towels and sheets once after, this was also done. the cleaners were so lovely and always have time for pleasantries.
The animation team, madou, dj alex, dali, timo, bobo, zizo, spider and sam all worked so hard to keep guests happy. they are absolutely FANTASTIC, BRILLLIANT, with a different show on every night. They work so hard for this as well as keeping guests entertained with various activities during the day. They work tirelessly and really love their job. They include the guests in the evening entertainment...getting guests up to dance on stage to the dances after the kids disco, then the main events either sketches, a night of latino, etc and always involving guests.
The beach (private beach to hotel) was perfect, just perfect.
we went on some trips, 3 in 1, which involved visiting a Berber village set in the Atlas Mountains. We had some mint tea and bought some truly wonderful handmade crafts, again the views were breathtaking and the villagers there were so welcoming and friendly, we then went to the Friguia Park where for a couple dinars, we fed an elephant. The park, for us, was all that but what there was, was good. Afterwards, we went on the priate ship which again, was fun, fun, fun from start to finish but the views were breathtaking. the 'priates' were hilarious, having all the guests involved from start to finish, with dancing, etc, Once we were out at sea, we anchored, ate a delicious meal and swam in the warm mediterranean sea then made our way back to yasmine harbour.
We also went on the African Dream trip where we visited the park again, watched the seal show. There is a dophin show but that is 20 dinars per person.
we then had the main event, tunisian meal with authentic african entertainment throughout the meal. however, a certain race of people, spoilt it somewhat with all their pushing and shoving encouraged by their rep till they were put in their place, literally. Then food was a delicious traditional tunisian meal. after the meal, the dancers encouraged us to dance with them and had pictures taken with them.
But for me, the trip that was magical, meaningful was the trip to the bedouin village. travelling by horse and cart or camel, it was about a 20min ride. once we arrived, we met some beautiful arabian horses, fed the camels. we then dressed up in traditional dress and tried some african dancing. I had a henna tattoo done, as did some of the other guests, but it was the serenity of the village. It was so peaceful, magical and in a way, a life changing experience.
when out shopping, you have to mindful of traders hassling you to buy their goods but a polite no thank you will suffice.
just outside of the hotel, are the bank to exchange money and a few shops, my favourite is where samir works, he is a talented craftsman and makes some beautiful etchings on plates within minutes and excellent prices too. we got some bracelets with names etched in arabic, small brass like plates...this is a must.
all in all, the hotel was perfect, the food perfect, the staff perfect, the entertainment perfect, the staff perfect, the holiday simply perfect.
We are hoping to go again next year, but for 3 weeks, as 2 weeks was nowhere near enough. Tunisian and the Tunisian people have captured my heart, and I truly have left my heart there. Cannot wait to go back to the Dar Khayam hotel!!!!!

My partner and I arrived here on the 27/09/2013 we stayed here for 2weeks and had an amazing time . We met our rep Anthony really nice guy I would recommend if you have any problems what so ever he is the person to see he will do what he can to make your stay and experience a fantastic one and will endever to iron out any issues.

The management are also extremely helpful and will bend over backwards to help you all u have to do is ask.

The cleaners are there on a daily basis and your room is cleaned and towels are changed everyday the hotel also provides a washing service and you can obtain a form and a bag from the cleaner which they are happy to assist all prices are on the form.

Now I have been reading some comments about the food all in all the food was good but it can be repetitive but what do u expect they cater for over 900 people there is always someone that will complain , for what the hotel does they do a very good spread . There are plenty of places outside the hotel you can go to eat .
There is a restaurant I would highly recommend and you can go through your rep Anthony it's called the Bella marina absolutely amazing food if you like fish or lobster that is the place to go they do other food as well if you are not keen on fish the price is good to doesn't brake the bank.
there is also a restaurant not far from the hotel called panorama they do steak and many other foods and they do a mean English breakfast well recommend .

If you want to do the excursions Anthony is your man to ask he will tell what's what I would highly recommend doing them .

In the evenings there is entertainment from comedy to karaoke and many more the staff are very easy going .

The spa centre is another must I recommend you go the staff are very friendly .

The beach is about a minutes walk from the hotel and its very clean and they have lots of activities to do ect( paragliding, jet skis , Carmel riding horse riding and that's a few out of so many.

The only downfall I have is the shops outside the hotel the people are lovely and I would recommend you barter with them but once you been in one shop expect to go in every shop as they will not leave you alone . If u buy something and don't want to be hassled please bear in mind they don't take no for an answer that was the only issue I had throughout our trip other than that it was brilliant I have nothing but good to say.
We will definitely be coming back.

Room Tip: If you can get a room with a sea view do so it really is an amazing view.

Just got back from a two week holiday to this hotel, although the hotel is dated and in need of a general over all it is clean and the room we stayed in was kept with clean towels and bed sheets. The waiters , the animation team, bar staff and room service attendants are brilliant . All are very friendly and happy to help. The only thing that let's the hotel down is the food! To say repetitive does not tell the hole picture, after 4 days it was the same food for lunch and dinner. We did find a brilliant Resturant panorama ,very well priced and does a good English breakfast.

I want to start by saying how disgusted i am by some of the reviews I've read on here. This forum is to review hotels and holidays etc not to air your prejudices against people of a larger size or people with tattoos.

We stayed here from 26th of September - 9th of October 2013. A family party of 5 with ages ranging from 19 to 40s.

Arrival: We arrived around 3am and was greeted by a smiley, chatty man on reception. Everyone had to complete a form (which is a requirement from all hotels). We organised our security box ,which are all situated just off of reception and covered by CCTV, where given a couple of bottles of water and shown to our room by a porter who also carried lot of our luggage.

Rooms: The rooms (we had 3 between us) were clean with everything you needed for an all inclusive holiday. We had 3 single beds in our room, 2 of which were pushed together, a double mirrored wardrobe with hangers and shelves. A vanity table with mirror, a TV with sky channels and 2 bedside tables. The bathroom had a sink with mirror, toilet and shower. There was a built in hairdryer with a sealed unit so was safe to use. The shower cubicle is snug but functional. We had a balcony with 2 chairs and a table. The brochure stated that the air conditioning was unavailable from September onward but we found this not to be the case thankfully as the nights were very humid at times. There was no charge for the air con either.

Catering: You are given a table and a seating time for all meals. We found this helpful as is stopped the need for queuing and fighting for tables. Luckily no one else used our table throughout our stay and we were able to attend meals out of our allocated time slot. Our waiter was fantastic. We didn't tip him until the end of our stay and found we received first class service despite this. The food was repetitive after a while but this is normal with a 2 week stay, however we still found plenty to eat with no complaints. We were never served opened water or wine bottles, (on the odd occasions we had wine) although i know this wasn't the case for everyone. We didn't eat from the pool snack bar. Queues for the bar were not very long even though most times there was only one person serving and the drinks were not watered down.

Beach and pool: We spent the first few days at the beach which was beautiful. Umbrellas and sun beds are free although mats for the beds aren't. These only costed 2d a day each which isn't even a pound. There were bins for rubbish periodically along the beach (not everyone bothered to use them) but they weren't emptied every day. Although its a private beach with regards to the beds etc it is openly accessible to others. There were many sellers walking up and down each day but if you politely said no they moved on. All non motorised water sports are free, however, the jet skies and parascending facilities are chargeable. Whilst we were there a man fainted while parascending. Within a minute they had him safely back to the beach with life guards, first aides, hotel manager and police in attendance. There we also rumors of a man who had died from a neighbouring hotel. We heard he had been in trouble in the sea, was brought back to the beach and worked on by life guards and paramedics but unfortunately had passed away before reaching hospital. As i said this was rumored but please be aware the sea gets deep quick and the waves can be very strong. One knocked me clean of my feet and i was fully submersed. I wouldn't recommend going swimming by yourself. The pool area was compacted. although a great way to meet new people. We made friends with people from all backgrounds and ages. The pool was cleaned daily contrary to some reviews but you did have to be up early to witness this. Plenty of waiters clearing tables. This is an open area so you will find people smoking. Music is played most of the day and can be loud at times as it used by the animation team for activities.

Animation Team: I can't praise them enough. These guys work from 10am - midnight everyday. They come round by the pool asking and encouraging you to join in with the activities. If you don't want to just say no.
The evening entertainment starts at 8:30pm with the kids entertainer Sam dancing with them all. Them comes the group dance. The team come round inviting you to dance on stage with them. Its not embarrassing, nobody takes it serious its just a bit of fun. Next ladies are invited to waltz and chacha on a one to one basis. After a few nights of me saying no thanks Dali (the really tall guy who body pops) asked me saying "don't think about ti just do it you're on holiday" got me up to waltz. What a great teacher. I went from not knowing a single step to being able to confidently waltz around the dance floor. Next was Bingo with a twist, I'll leave you to find out the twist. Then nightly sketch shows or dance shows or karaoke ending with disco time. The sketch shows are very slap stick but entertaining non the less. Dali, Spider, Bobo, Madou, DJ Alex, Zizo, Sam and Timo work extremely hard to please everyone.

To sum up, we had a fantastic time and can't wait to return. The people we spoke to were friendly and normal !! No Jeremy Kyle applicants or alcoholics. Its not an Ibiza hotpot neither is it a holiday in the peak district but somewhere in the middle.

Sorry I've droned on a bit but i felt the need to defend the hotel and staff after the many critical and intolerant reviews i have read.

Room Tip: we stayed in rooms 1327, 1324 and 1323.

When we arrived at the Hotel at 11am having been up and travelling since 2am the last thing we wanted to hear was that our room wouldn't be ready until 1.30pm. We got a drink and had some lunch and then got showed to our bungalow, it was basic but clean and almost on the beach. The sink was leaking and there was water all over the floor but this was sorted within 10 minutes of reporting it. The hotel reception and our rooms were clean but needed a bit of TLC. The reception staff and Entertainment Team were very helpful, friendly and spoke good English. The Entertainment team were funny and they did shows at night such as comedy sketches and a Michael Jackson show (which was fab!) The food was ok but was the same every day apart from Fridays when it was Tunisian night. It is so cheap to eat out over there that it wasn't really an issue because you could go out and get a panini and chips for £1.60! There aren't many bars round there but plenty of restaurants which are really cheap. Taxis are cheap a taxi ride of 40 minutes cost about £3! The bowling ally to the left of the hotel doesn't look much from outside but inside it is really nice, they offer free wifi and popcorn and a game of bowling was about £2.80. The water sports were also really cheap and highly recommended as are some of the trips out. We went on the 3 in 1 which was fantastic and well worth the money! You are able to use the sister Hotel for everything but food and the slides round the pool are good! You can also eat at the beach restaurant once for each week you stay and although it's a set menu it's a nice change. So if you are booked to go you will enjoy yourself just eat out when you can and take some fly repellant spray because there are loads and they will really annoy you!
