average hotel and again we got a room with a crap view as always, but hotel staff quite friendly and helpful...the area around the hotel is is a tip with nothing of interest at all,so you have to get a taxi to get anywhere but they are cheap.food was ok ish but warmed up leftovers for snacks was pushing it too far...people were paying £20 or so for a trip tp TUNIS but you can get the train from bor bou regba staion (7 dinar taxi) for about £2,10 each way for the 45 minute journey.personally i wouldn,t bother as its awful and chaotic with nowt to see.will not be going back to anywhere in tunisia again, too dirty, too scruffy and too boring, they need to visit turkey to get an idea on how to get tourists in.

Just returned from a week at the dar khayam hotel. The spa is brilliant together with the staff.
The rest of the hotel is basically clean, the drains in the bathroom smell, and the smell of the
cigarette smoke all over the hotel is chronic. The food is very basic, and you must like eggs for
breakfast. Cats all round the complex. Tunisia is a fly tippers paradise. there is rubbish
everywhere, apart from the Presidents Palace. Expect to be fleeced by the locals.

Room Tip: choose a 5 star hotel in another country

We arrived on the 22nd 9f februaury and although Tunisia is in the Winter sun brochures we had only 2 reasonably warm days. The rooms are OK, but spoiled by the addition of bunk beds. They are clean enough and we were only kept awake one night by the next rooms TV being a bit loud. The food was really good, always something to eat, plenty of it. We were disapointed to have to share a table with another couple who were like Hinge and Bracket, miserable as sin, but when we approached the manager of the restaurant he moved us. The hotel staff are really friendly and helpful bar one exception, the creep in the red jacket who takes your bags to the room, he is really arrogant and rude, stood there with his hand out for the tip and when we gave him English money (we had not had the chance to exchange any), he stormed off. He then goes from guest to guest trying to get them to change money for him.
The only problem we had was the constant badgering from the quad bike man, massage man and photographer man, (the quad bike man will become the pirate ship man in the summer)! They do not leave you alone and wont take no for an answer. we tried to escape to the beach but you get badgered there with someone trying to sell you one thing or another. The only other thing that put us off was the roads outside the hotel are very littered and you have to ask why all the hotels are "gated". Tunisia may be beautiful but doubt we will return.

Don't let the negatives put you off. I'm posting this from the lobby of the hotel right now. We're here a few days now, the hotel is great, food is absolutely fine and cleanliness is OK. Staff very attentive and very welcoming but be prepared to tip the porters/ bar service at pool etc... But this is small change and we find it OK.
The general area around the perimeter of the hotel is what I describe as 'dirty' .... But this is not Spain/France or indeed Europe so don't expect that level of cleanliness....... This is absolutely fine but be prepared for it. The people are lovely and not arrogant as some reviews stated, they are 'Arabs'... Respect that fact.
The food is of Southern Europe/north African Origen in the hotel restaurant and is very good... it is varied but will be repetitive if your stay is more than a week.... But it is good and well presented...... Don't expect it to be the typical 'Magaluff palate' of fries and pies... It isn't, but it is fine.
All in all this hotel is excellent, not the Hilton, but then again it is a fraction of the price and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Went in 2012 May.

Overall you get what you pay for - would not really recommend unless you are not that fussy and want a generally basic budget resort with a beach and sun holiday

Good:
Beach
Reception
Gardens and Surroundings
All Day Bar/snack bar

Bad:
Food (hygiene and selection and table allocation)
Pools (cold and dirty) - although sister hotels ones are nice
Animation Team (rude and fake)
Harassing sales guys
Area outside hotel (run down, sales men, locals, taxis - looks like Beirut)
Shower Facilities (very small)
Toilets (in reception, no toilet paper, dirt marks, unclean - obviously used because everyone is ill)

Food is the same each day and there are open windows and had a lot of flies hovering round on the salad. Which is a shame because the salad looked very nice.

You are allocated a table in the restaurant throughout your stay - you will be seated with random people and cannot change (we went as a couple and there are no two seater tables). I found my self sitting with a couple of random people that didnt speak my language. AWKWARD!

I was very ill with severe fever for 24 hours (either food at hotel or food at "african dream" excursion)

Keep away from African Dream excursion (unless you have no intention of eating their three course meal)

Nice beach and sunset although hotel is very basic - i would keep away from the food and eat dry rusks. The hotel has a basic gym which is fantastic if you like to work out.

No real activities on site prepared for the guests. Although animation team do tend to put alot of effort into the production but fails.

This hotel sisters with another hotel which has fantastic swimming facilities and amazing slides - -although the other hotel was derelict which was fine for me :)

There are other hotels in the area which are much nicer so may be worth just spending that extra £50 to get a better hotel.

I strongly recommend the camel ride in the mountains which is sold as a excursion within the hotel from the local guys. £10 each and we got taken up the road to the mountains and rode camelback for 2 hours! - amazing!

The hotel looks nice, the rooms look nice, the pools look nice but thats about it. The food is disgusting, not much choice, kids/vegertarains will find nothing to eat here. I have lived off french stick bread for the last two weeks, got home last night weighed myself and found that i have lost almost a stone whilst being here so if your on a diet its great but if your not take your own food. The staff are not good with there customer service skills besides the two young waiters in the restuarant. The bar is a very slow services and most of the time you don't even get the drink you asked for. I would not recommened this hotel for people with children as there isn't much to do, if the weather is bad your child will be bored, so take an ipad or something like that. Beach is a short walk away, the sea is crystal clear but the beach is full of rubbish and broken glass. This hotel is perfect for people 60 and over who don't want to go to the shops or do anything but sleep eat and sit down. You go to the shops and get dragged in and shouted at. The best thing is two tv channels in english. The french are really rude, jump the cues smoke in the door ways to the restuarant. Once you've seen one of the evening show's you've seen them all. Room was nice, good size, the only problem we had was that our toilet was leaking and they wouldn't fix it kept saying nothing was wrong with it when there is water leaking all out of the system and bottom of it. Staff can make you feel like your wearing nothing but your underwear even though your covered up. Make sure you take lots of money as they expect tip after tip after tip. Do not take any jellewery or anything you would hate to lose. Make sure you have a bag for camera and phones. If the weather is great you will have a good time otherwise your stuck inside with nothing to do but feel like a o.a.p. The first weekend here and the toilets was all bloaked and poo was all over the floor and walls aswell as toilet paper covered in poo, so make sure you take hand sanatitser with you.

Room Tip: ask for pool view otherwise you stuck with noise from kitchen and a/c unit noise and view of bins.
