“An enjoyable stay.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2010

Overall we had an excellent relaxing holiday at the Chich Khan, though there are a coupleof areas that could be improved.

CHECK IN & ROOMS

On arrival check in was quick & efficient, we had booked 2 rooms & I had e mailed the hotel direct prior to travelling to request 2 pool view rooms & received a reply saying that this was possible, on check in we were told that we only had 1 pool view room & that my son & his friend didn not have a pool view but I thought I would accept that, until we went to there room to find that there was a generator of some sort at their part of the building & the noise was terrible (1392) so I went back to reception & the guy was very helpful initially said that he could change their room in a couple of days but I pushed & he agreed to move them to another room that night ( with a pool view !!) the odd room numbers have the pool views, so I would recommend anyone to e mail the hotel direct prior to departure. Family rooms do not have a balcony.all rooms have a separate toilet/bathroom, water warm most of the time. Rooms have air con ours didn't work that well the one in the boys room far better & much needed, fridges in room were never filled.

RESTAURANT/FOOD

On the whole we ate well during our 10 days here, main complaint no cold milk at breakfast for cereal always warm ...yuk !! Lovely crepes at breakfast & dinner, fried eggs or ommelettes made fresh on the griddle as you wait. Lunch @ the snack bar very repetitive burgers or kebab on buns, pasta & bolognaise, ommelettes. chips, salad. Lovely freshly made waffles & crepes in the afternoon...yum !!

POOL/ENTERTAINMENT

Pool area lovely always plenty of sunbeds & mattressess available, entertainment team work really hard & accept a no from you when you don't want to take part. Night time entertainment was well done though we mainly watched from our balcony.

STAFF

All the staff that we came in contact with during our stay from reception, restaurant.snack bar, pool area & entertainment team were second to none they work long hard hours for I'm sure not a great amount of money & were always helpful, friendly & smiling, people have said that they were just like that to get a tip but we did not find that at all. We gladly tipped the staff during our holiday & at the end of our stay & they were so pleased & grateful to receive & it was a pleasure to give to them.

VALUE FOR MONEY

For what we paid for our holiday we found it good value for money & for the first time we returned home with money !!

RESORT

Probably what we liked least about the resort was the hassle you recieve when out shopping particularly in the medina I would recommend using the fixed price shops either outside the hotel or on the promenade. Found out that they have built a new airport & as of next year all British flights will go there so it will be about a 30mins transfer instead of 1hr30mins which is a big plus.

If you've booked i'm sure you will have a fantastic holiday but as I always say your holiday is what you make of it.

First the good stuff, hotel was very clean, rooms cleaned daily and kept spotless, staff very friendly and helpful, entertainment staff try to get you involved but are not pushy if you dont want to be. Now the not so good really only the food it was very samey after a few days and as I have a wheat allergy my choice was even more limited although my partner also found the choices limited after a few days, if you want to even get merry on beer you have to be pretty dedicated as they serve it in half pint glasses and dont even fill those up, the wine was nothing special although afte a couple of days of putting tips in the pot on the bar they started serving me with better stuff (tips 1 or 2 dinar a time = 50p - £1) water was available from the bars but only in very small bottles (0.5L) and given the heat this meant many trips back to get more bottles. And last of all the really (from my point of view) bad stuff, no tea or coffee making facilities in the room and as I am an early riser I got pretty fed up waiting for the bar to open so that I could have that first cuppa, very very loud musak around the pool nearly all day except a few lunch times (not all) and sundays fine if you like that sort of thing but the music is of course not to everybody's taste and just becomes intrusive killing conversation (and sleep).

The enternainment I am not going to classify as peoples tastes vary so wildly but in general the staff try very hard to please all (an unenviable task!), if you like Mr and Miss xxx competitions then two nights a week are for you, there is karaoke (why are there so many people with absolutely lousy voices who think that they can sing?), a Tunisian night and a Fakir show (sword swallowing beds of nails etc) and a general singing and dancing cabaret, most cabaret nights ended up with staff trying to get everybody dancing round the pool amazing how many people shot indoors as soon as that was mentioned!

The resort of Yasmine Hammamet is very very hollywood does Tunisia, there is no soul in the resort, the new Medina whilst looking attractive feels like a theme park, if you go to the old Medina in Hammamet or the one in Tunis you will see what I mean, not a lot to do in the resort so most people stay in their Hotels

We would recommend this holiday!

The hotel itself was spotless clean, rooms cool and spacious and pool area and bars really relaxed - perfect for a relaxing holiday.

The staff were helpful, friendly and always there for anything you needed. The quality of food, drink and fascilities were of the best standard.

The location was only one street away from the private strip of white sandy beach with loungers and a bar and shops and pottery markets. We didnt go but the Madina was only two minutes away too.

By the pool it was hard to get a lounger so we spent most time on the beach. The beach was gorgeous! It was forbidden to leave towels lying on loungers by the pool or on the beach but most people made up their own rules which was a shame as when you take to lying on them they accuse you of being rude and this got me furious to say the least.

I have put it down as 3/5 for sleep quality because we had a VERY noisy family next door and being woke up at 7am and kept awake at night because of moving furnature (?!) and mucking about.

We booked trips to Figuira Park/Zoo and a trip on a pirate ship through the rep and we totally reccomend these they were fantastic and great value for money. If you take children they'll love it!

just got back from a week at this hotel,we found the staff very friendly and helpful especially when two members of our party weren't happy with their room and they moved them as soon as they could. What can i say about the food, well it was the same food nearly every night no variation, the omlettes were never cooked properly, found we ate out in the mariner a lot even though we were all inclusive. The room was clean and kept tidy every day no faults there what we did find strange was the safes, not having one in your room, but having to go to reception to get a master key every time you wnted something out of the safe (didn't help when they lost the master key) . The location wasn't bad pity it wasn't on the beach lots of shops to look around, that is if you like haggling and being hassled. wasn't impressed with the hotel air con. didn't come on till 4'o' clock every day so if you went for a sleep in afternoon it was hotter in your room than outside. Doubt we'll ever go back

Before we chose this hotel I read most of Tripadvisor reviews, mainly the bad ones. Because most of the reviews are good, we picked this Hotel for our first visit to Tunisia.
Our First night was not bad, however we heard lots of noise from upper rooms, specially typical dragging chairs noises.
On the second day I realized that we got some bloody mosquitoes inside the room. As we have children we killed all mosquitoes before we went to bed. During the night I woke up several times with mosquitoes noises and I realized that my daughter and son were being bite by several mosquitoes. I spent all night killing mosquitoes in our bedroom.
Next day I complained about the mosquitoes and the Reception of the hotel gave me a spray to kill them. I pulverized all the room with spray, keeping doors closed and I expected that the problem was solved, however during the night they attacked again and I spend one more night killing mosquitoes.
Next day I complained once again and I told them that the only way that mosquitoes went in the room was through the air conditioning grid. The Hotel cleaned the air conditioner and in did it almost solved the problem. Instead of more than 20 mosquitoes per day I start killing about 5 mosquitoes per day.
Mosquitoes were a big problem and all of us were bitten.
On our 4th night we waked up at 04:00 in the morning with water falling from the roof in the middle of the room, I called the reception and they took 45 minutes to send some one to checked out the problem and the problem was only solved almost sunshine. Which means that we had to sleep with the sound of water dropping on the wet floor.
Every day after 1:00 a.m. and after 6:00 a.m. we heard noises from furniture being dragged upstairs. Then I realized that our room was located just bellow the hotel's bar.
Besides all this sleeping problems our air conditioning only started working on the 3rd night and it make a LOT of noise.
If you come to this hotel with kids, do not forget to bring some mosquitoes repellents.

The other problem I found out was about food. Some times there were not to many options. If you like pizzas, pasta and hamburgers with fright potatoes and spicy food, you will enjoy the food but if you expect to find some healthy grilled fish and meat, this is not the right hotel.

I do a lot of exercises every day, specially during holidays I normally exercise almost 2 hours a day. I was very surprised that this 4 stars hotel has no gym, however I was saved by my jump rope that always travels with me. With the amount of exercise and the poor food options I lost weight (usually even with all the exercise in a all inclusive regime I use to gain around 2kg).

I can only say this Hotel was a big deception and I cannot advise it to anyone.

I found the bad reviews really put my off about this hotel before i went. When we got there I realised a lot of these reviews where just nit picking. This hotel was clean and tidy and the food was great. Our room was spacious and had a reasonable balcony. The only complaints about the rooms are as follows. The walls must be made of paper as you could hear every footstep outside in the hall way. But if like us you go to bed after 12 and get up around 9ish, no prob at all. The other complaint was the mini bar did not get filled up once. But we just took a few bottles of water up each night. Other than that, the bed was made every night and bathroom cleaned and fresh towels every day.

The buffet resturant was good with plenty of variety. I would definatley recommend the Tunisian cusine. The Mexican resturant was a set menu, which did not resemble anything like mexican food. The beer and cocktails were great as was the wine.

The pool and activities where good fun, with music playing most of the day and water polo, football, archery and tennis all day amongst other games, The pool area was mainly clean and tidy, nothing major to moan about.

Service every where, the bar, pool side and resturants was great and a couple of dinar tip goes along way to getting better service. Lets face it Tunisia isn't a rich country and if you can't spare a couple of dinar you should moan if your service isn't as good as others who do tip.

Lots of different nationallties staying in the hotel, everyone was friendly prob about 40% brits 40% french and the rest german and spanish

Overall a brilliant holiday for the money, would defo recommend
