“Lovely hotel and great location”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

Yasmine Hammamet is a purpose built resort town about 10 minutes by car from Hammamet. It has a lovely long promenade and clean sandy beach, a vary large marina, a medina and a wide selection of hotels, restaurants and bars.

We walked along the beach and through the town most evenings and everyone we met was friendly and welcoming and there was a lovely relaxing atmosphere around the town.

The Averroes is one of the few hotels to have direct access to the beach and it's an easy 20 minutes stroll along the sea front to the marina. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The animation team was excellent and really worked hard throughout the day and late into the evenings. Activities included aqua aerobics, boules, volleyball, water polo and archery. There was also entertainment in the evenings.

The food was excellent in quality and variety. Most lunchtimes we ate at the small cafe bar where there was a grill every day including fish, chicken and burgers. Breakfast and evening meals were in the large buffet restaurant and every day there were cooks preparing fresh food. There was also a wide selection of salads and fresh fruits.

Our room was very clean, well-lit and spacious with a large balcony. The room appeared to have been recently decorated. The bathroom was large and clean.

Our only complaint was the organisation of the sun beds and towels. The problem with the sun beds was that there were at least 3 different standards of sun lounger and 2 very different standards of mattress. The best quality beds and mattresses were always fully taken before 7.30 am. It was annoying to see some of the beds reserved but not used for the entire day with people being absent all day and then appearing late in the afternoon to collect their towels and return to their rooms without using the beds at all! The hotel should really try to stop this type of behaviour. We were surprised to be asked for a deposit of 20 Dinars (about £8) for each towel. They would not accept Pounds or Euros so we had to change money into local currency to get the tokens for the towels. At the end of the holiday you hand back the tokens and they return your deposit but you then have to queue at the airport to change your money back into Pounds. It all adds unnecessary hassle and it would be much simpler to simply hand out the tokens upon check-in and only make a charge if you fail to hand them back at the end.

Overall though, this is an excellent hotel in a lovely location and we would definitely consider returning.

First time in Tunisia and it was excellent. Firstly, we arranged the holiday through Thomas Cook and missed our flight out. Thomas Cook very quickly arranged for us to travel on another flight, the same day, and we made it to the resort just 14 hours later than we ought to have. They were excellent.

The hotel was lovely - very spacious and airy and has a lovely location on the beach. Probably the best located hotel in Yasmine. The food was very nice - it got a little samey but there was always a chicken and beef dish, pasta, potatoes and pizza and lots of salad. The drinks portions are a little on the small side unless you ask for a bottle of wine and definitely watered down.

The best advice I can give is to tip tip tip! It will improve your holiday ten fold; the staff will really take care of you.

Brilliant relaxing holiday and very very good value money.

This is a lovely hotel with great bar, restaurant and animation staff. Lady on reception and the ladies in the spa lets the team down really not very welcoming and when departing the spa ladies demand you shampoo etc... from you, which was quite intimidating. Food was great plenty of choice, the animation team let you know what's on and to do and leave you to make your mind up as to whether you want to take part or not, the night entertainment was a lot better than i expected very entertaining, drink were good (wasn't a fan of the white wine) but apart from that everything else taste fine. We went for a walk out and it was nice for something to do but nothing special. We went on the Pirate ship trip which wasn't great they tell you that all soft drinks are free with a buffet of food and that is not the case you have one plastic cup of coke with the food and the only thing that is free is the water, food consisted of dried bread a piece of meat (not sure what it was maybe pork?) and a piece of fish, this wasn't the end of the world for us because we were all inclusive and as soon as we got back to the hotel we ate again, you don't see any dolphins as promised and are made to tip at the end of the trip, its just a bit of a con really. Pool and beach are both amazing lovely and clean, and we didn't get mithered at all on the beach. Unfortunately we had a bag of gifts and cigarettes stolen from are room they were kept in a drawn and when we came to pack they were gone, again the lady on reception couldn't of really cared less and said the cleaners has not found anything, I'm not even a 100% that she had even check with the cleaners??? I will email Thomas cook to let them know but not sure if i will be compensated for the loss . Overall it was lovely weeks holiday with great food and met some lovely people. But won't be retuning due to the stolen bag and the unhelpful receptionist. (and would recommend not to waste your money and a morning on the pirate ship)

Every other part of the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Rooms were very good and cleaned everyday.
View on the even side of the hotel looked on to lawn recommend asking for a room on the odd side numbering to have sea/garden view.

Room Tip: Ask for odd side numbering if you require sea view.

We'd never been to Tunisia before, though would definitely go again (to the same resort) after this holiday! :) It was all you could want from a Sunny holiday. Weather was consistently perfect at about 32-35 degrees. Site very clean all around.

The food was great with lots of variety to cater for all, from Swordfish to pizza, watermelon to delicious freshly made doughnuts for breakfast! In the afternoon there's a great restaurant to where a friendly cook served crepes etc...

Very clean beach and lots of activities should you wish. The room was a perfect size, and we were lucky to get sea/ pool view. Worth taking mosiquito spray just in case as there were a couple of people around the pool with some bites!

Drinks package under all-inclusive was brilliant and saves you a fortune, decent drinks and the swim up pool bar is perfect to cool you down from the sun. Our waiter in the back garden was fantastic and good fun. The only thing we paid out for was Shisha (from the friendly Shisha man) and games of poole.

Finally, the animation team were brilliant! They were great fun and all took their time to get to know you, Even if you don't want to get involved in the day time activities, there's no pressure. Special mention to Mimo, Kader and the guy leading the volleyball/ football (and all the team who made the holiday). There's even a very catchy 10am dance!

Perfect for couples (straight or same sex), friends and families. Lovely big pool and we went term time so not many children. We also met some really nice people there.

When we got on the coach at the end of the holiday we met some people we met at the airport on the way out there. We definitely felt we booked the best hotel on the strip and would happily go again soon!

Thanks for making it a great hol! I literally could not fault it, great value for money and very helpful and friendly staff throughout.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 2 weeks 9th June - 23rd June All inc with a great deal from Alpha Rooms of £668 each.
We flew from Heathrow T4 with Tunisair which I will add are a very good airline that even supply food and drink as a standard on the flight.

Our flight was delayed an hour and a half due to strikes at Madrid airport so we arrived at the hotel at 1:30am. On arrival the hotel was in darkness which we found very strange, this is because everything stops at midnight. Check in was simple and a member of staff took our luggage to our room for us. The rooms are a little dated and could probably do with a refurb but we don't spend that much time in the room so it didn't bother us.

We went down for breakfast at 9:30 where they have the usual selections of continental and cooked breakfast. They also have chefs that can make you a fresh omlette, fried eggs or pancakes. There is juice and water you can help yourself too and also tea and coffee.

We then went to try and get a sun lounger which at 10am is not easy. The 2 we found had no shade by them but we thought this would be ok. The temperature while we were there ranged between 29 and 37 degrees so make sure you bring the right factor of sun cream. They do sell some in the shop in the hotel if needed. There was always a lovely breeze by the pool or on the beach which can actually be quite dangerous as you don't realise you are burning.

We had lunch in the main restaurant where each day they have salads, bread, pizza, pasta, chips and then the usual beef/chicken/fish/rice/potatoes/veg. We also ate in the BBQ restaurant alot when we were there as the dinning hall was getting alot busier the more the hotel filled up. The BBQ restuarant served burgers/chips/BBQ fish & pork or turkey and again salad, bread, pasta and pizza.

There were activities every day by the pool from the animation team inc darts, water aeorobics, water polo and all the team would say good morning and good afternoon to you each day even if you didn't take part in the activities. They had Sunday off but you would still see them at the hotel in the evenings.

The pool at the beginning of the holiday was quite cold but once your in your in and you can swim up to the pool bar and get yourself a drink and relax on the seats they have in the pool.

The bar staff both at the pool bar and indoor bar were amazing, they were always around to get you a drink or move you a table over to watch the evening entertainment and were very friendly. We made very good friends with 2 of the bar staff Riadh and Hassen who made our days and evenings very entertaining and were also sad when we left and gave us big hugs and told us we must come back.

We used to have a drink outside before heading up to get ready for the evening meal and you would see loads of people ready for dinner so I imagine it would be very busy in there at 7pm when it opened but we would come down around 8:30pm where we always got a table with the best waitor you could ask for Mohammed. He remembered that we were drinking Rose at dinner and so we would have a bottle waiting for us when we came back from getting our food.
There was always something to eat and some nights they had BBQ food outside and also a Paella dish.

After dinner we would sit outside and have some more to drink and if there was any evening entertainment we would watch that. Sometimes the entertainment was in the theatre which was indoors so we didn't go to them as wanted to sit outside.
They also had Sheesha from 3pm - 11pm which only cost 4Tunisia Dina equivilent to about £1.80. The man that supplies this service is called Slouma (aka Saber) he would come round in the evening with his special tea and alway say hello my friend how are you. As I mentioned before all the staff were very friendly which was great.

There was free watersports on the beach consiting of Pedallo, Sea Kayaking and Wind Surfing. You would also see Camels and horses up and down the beach and people selling things but the security would tell them to leave as soon as he saw them.

Only thing at the hotel that dissapointed us was the sun loungers and life guards. You would have to wait for the life guards to come and give you a matress for your sun bed which most people would tip them for and some people were taking 2 matresses for a bed which meant there wasn't enough to go around and there wasn't enough umbrellas either. We decided to get up at 6:30 one morning to see what the situation was like and even then you would find about 20 beds taken and 6 other people waiting to get matresses to reserve a sun bed. I heard from someone that the week before we arrived everyone would get a lounger no problem but it started to get busy and the week we left they were expecting the hotel to be full which is about 600 people.
Also our transfer from the hotel didn't turn up so we had to get a taxi costing £45. In the confirmation of our transfers booking it mentioned you had to re confirm your transfer home which is just ridiculous. Also we travelled home on a Sunday and their offices were shut on a Sunday so couldn't get through to them. Getting a taxi was probably a good thing though as we were early for check in and the airport was mayhem trying to check into the flight.

I would come back to this hotel for the price and also the staff. As mentioned above special thanks to Riadh, Hassem, Slouma and Mohammed for making our stay great.
