We were delayed for 15 hours outbound and lost a full day and evening arriving at 2am. Only complaint is here it would have been nice to recieve a drink.. just a soft drink as it was so very hot travelling from the airport..
the hotel itself is typically tunisisan and very in keeping with other good hotels.
the first 2 days the grated carrot was swarming with flies and put me off but the remainder of the week the salad bar was fly free and a pleasure to dine from.
the food was impeccable on quality and choice..the big mac brigade out as usual "no bacon and eggs".. well dont go abroad!! honestly you go to experience culture not dine on pizza and chips?
the pool was fabulous and the pool bar.. matresses on sunbeds.. bathing in 40 degree plus daily.. great air con which was on despite reading it wasnt!
the spirits at all bars were not measures by any means.. glass of ice and a drizzle of 10ml spirit topped up with a named brand of soft drink.. the lager celtia is cold and refreshing, crisp and a pleasure to crave.. wine by the bottle is never a problem, they prefer it to running around i think!
the dine around was the most surprising part i thouroughly enjoyed it all.. seeing other hotels and there staff was great.. they all uphold the same iberostar standards.
we met people who had been hospitalised and a lady was alone due to her husband being taken ill and admitted for days.. the staff really looked after them, tending to every whim. taking time to make them part of it and not isolated, i loved that! so caring of them..
there were a few bulbs out in corridors and picture hooks idol with no picture but it was clean.. smelled fresh and the maids were delightful.. i left a bag full of goodies for mine.. toiletries and shoes i hadnt worn along with clothes with tags on..
i hope she got them!!
we tipped.. they dont expect much but it is hard to spend money there.. so cheap!
so cheer them up, they all work 18 hour days and spirits are high.
the entertainment team kept me amused everyday.. work very well together!
tunisia outside the hotel is a landfill site littered with plastic bags and bottles, broken glass, waste of all kinds and the beaches are covered in it.. yet you taxi somewhere and see older tunisian men in cafe's sitting chatting all day everyday.. 40 of them at a time in each one.. id get them litter picking for a living!!
the smell is vile..
i got grabbed for trying to leave the medina in hammamet down by a man who wouldnt let me out, shouting my fiance didnt work, he wouldnt let me go until i shouted.. for this and the cleanliness id never take my kids, but as iv stated the hotel and iberostar are brilliant.. iv been to iberostar in other countries and i love them.. well done team :~)
