“Great hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

Returned from 1 week on 30 Sep with my mum. Excellent hotel, very clean, all staff extremely friendly and willing to help with any queries. Room was very spacious, maids did a great job. Crazy games in the pool fun to watch! Beach much better than expected, always spare sun beds, could do with a beach bar but I read that this may be in the pipeline. Felt very safe walking into town in the evening and nice marina is next to the hotel. You do get people saying "remember me, I'm the waiter from Marco Polo" when they're trying to sell you something, turn your all inclusive wristband inside out so they don't know where you're from! Pool guys were great, very helpful. The restaurant was excellent, could have stayed 2 weeks and had something different each night, plus the red wine was lovely! I would recommend the Asian restaurant, great BBQ ribs. Would definitely return in the future.

Riu Marco Polo – 5th to 16th September 2012
“Fantastic Holiday!”

We have recently returned from a very enjoyable 11-night all-inclusive break at the Riu Marco Polo in Yasmine Hammamet.

First and foremost the staff at this hotel are superb. They cannot do enough for you to ensure that you have a great holiday and are always smiling despite their long hours. We even saw some members of staff who had previously worked at the Riu Park El Kebir in Hammamet when we stayed there in June 2011 and they recognised us.

Special praise should be given to our maid Yasmine, our waiter Ramzi and Walid at the pool bar.

The hotel’s location is superb. It is just a short walk from the marina with its various shops and restaurants and the newer Medina is about 10 minutes’ walk away. If you are feeling really energetic you can walk along the beach to the old walled town of Hammamet with its Medina and this will take about 1.5 hours each way. Alternatively there is the "noddy train" which takes you from outside the hotel to Hammamet for a small charge.

One point to clarify is regarding your room. If, like us, you have an early morning flight then your room might not be ready when you arrive. However there is a courtesy room available so that you can change into beachwear and take advantage of the sunshine. Most rooms were soon available but you spend the first 30 minutes or so having an introductory talk from the Manager whilst enjoying a drink as he outlines all the facilities available at the hotel. We paid extra for a sea view and were very impressed with our room (4149).

You will be provided with 2 large bottles of water upon arrival and then you need to go to reception each morning to order more. At the same time you can also replace your beach towels. Some people complained about having to go to reception but bearing in mind it is just 50 yards from the restaurant where you will be having breakfast we couldn’t understand the problem! However if you want to change your beach towels you need to do so before 5 p.m. otherwise you will be given your towel cards back and will have to go back in the morning.

The layout of the hotel and its grounds is superb. Although the hotel was fully booked during our stay you could always find spare beds around the pool and beach and plenty of places to sit and relax. We preferred to spend our days at the beach as the beds/parasols were more spread out and there were always plenty available. However in the morning it was entertaining watching from our balcony as the “early-birds” rushed to reserve their favourite spots around the poolside. We are still laughing about how this back-fired on them one morning when a heavy thunderstorm struck just before breakfast lasting for most of the morning, the wet towels were removed by staff and then when the sun came out later other guests were using those beds!

There have been various criticisms regarding food. We definitely didn’t go hungry and always found plenty to eat from a wide and varied selection of salads, antipasta, various hot meats and some local dishes. There is also a pasta station where the food is freshly cooked to order. If you have any specific dietary requirements you need to mention this to the head chef and he will ensure you are catered for. The food is always being replenished so there’s no need to panic. We also ate at the Oriental restaurant several times which was superb, particularly the spare ribs, and tried the Tunisian once.

There are 2 sittings for dinner – 6.30 p.m. or 8.30 p.m. – and you are allocated a table which should be yours for the whole of your stay although some other guests experienced a few problems. We chose the early sitting as neither us nor our friends ate at lunchtime so we were all very hungry by the evening! Our waiter, Ramzi, was very attentive and made sure that we had drinks on our table before we arrived – and we didn’t tip him until the end of our holiday.

As this was our 7th visit to Tunisia (different hotels and varying resorts each time) we didn’t bother going on any trips as we’d done them all. We had met our rep, Mark, when we were in Tunisia in June 2011 and he was still as efficient as ever. We wish him well for his new destination!

If you can remember any French from your schooldays don’t hesitate to use it as the staff really appreciate it – and it guarantees you even better service!

We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others, the staff are superb, its location is very convenient and we hope to go back again in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a seaview (overlooking the pool and marina) and request a higher floor.

Background:a family with 3 kids (8, 5 and 4).

Kids entertainment during the day was limited and non existent when Hazem was off for 2 days. When he was there the kids loved joining in the 'Mini-Club' which Hazem repeated numerous times around the pool area to entice the kids in. He was great with the kids and kept them entertained. I would go a little earlier in the season to ensure more kids are there, but was not disappointed with the enthusiasm shown for what typically could be out of season.

The beach was a lovely sand, but was covers in hairy sea urchin style things. These could do with being cleaned up every night to make it better.

The pool was huge and never felt cramped, even with 300+ guest using it. Swim up bar is brilliant!!

Our room (3066) overlooked the pool and beach so have no complaints about that. It was cleaned everyday with petals or swan napkins dotted around for a little touch.

The food was nothing different to what I have sampled with All Inclusives within Europe, it was always hot and whilst variety wasn't spectacular, you could avoid the same things if needed. The daily specials were also lovely.

Kids evening entertainment was limited to a mini disco for 1/2 hour from 2000, with nothing but low volume music from 2030 until 2130 when the shows began. I sensed it would be the same each week so a 2 week break may be repetitive.

Drinks were plentiful and often served by the brilliant staff who seem to work 24 hours a day with a smile on their face. A 1 dinar tip goes a long way.

Yasmine Hammamet does not appear fully developed for tourists just yet, but they are getting there.  All this meant was that the hotel had to deliver all you needed, which it did with ease and style.  The SteakHouse in Yasmine is well worth a visit and so is a ride in the Tuk-Tuk to get there!!

I would NOT recommend the VIP lounge at Enfidha, as the Rep Mark suggested, you're not at the airport long enough to appreciate it, and you have to leave it to get to duty free anyway!!  We experienced no queues through passport control, and even beat the VIP's through!!

We've only been back a few days but are already looking into booking next year with some of our friends too.  Keep up the good work Riu Marco Polo!!

Came back from Riu Marco Polo on Wednesday (3rd Oct.) and have only praise for the hotel and all the staff. Thought the meeting with the reception manager on arrival was a great idea and as we are both rather deaf it was no problem for him to sit with us afterwards to make sure we had all the information we needed,

The room was lovely with a view of the pool and the marina and was kept spotless by the cheerful maids. Sometimes the towels were made into swans with flower petals on the beds, a nice touch. The beds were huge and very comfortable, we don't like them too soft.

The pool was the largest I have ever seen and even when there was games in the pool there was still plenty of room for the swimmers. The animation team work very hard and long hours but go out of their way tyo make everyone feel special.

The food was great even though I don't eat poultry of fish I found something different each time.My husband loves fish and had a different sort nearly everyday. The service in the restaurant was first class and our waiter really looked after us. The Asian restaurant is also lovely, we ate in there three times during our stay and enjoyed every meal. We used the Mediterranean restaurant for lunch as you could sit outside and dress in just a sarong over your swimwear.

The entertainment was a bit amateur but the animation team did their best to keep everyone happy. Even some of the entertainers from outside could do with making their shows a bit more slick and professional. But we still enjoyed ourselves.

Could not fault this hotel for cleanliness or the helpfulness of its very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble for them.

Mark the rep was really good and I am not surprised that he is being promoted, he would do well training other reps on how to do the job to a first class standard.

This was our sixth visit to Tunisia and the Marco Polo definitely didn't disappoint, it lived up to it's good reputation in all aspects.

If you want a compact hotel with an impressive pool area, superb cleanliness standards, pleasant staff and good food and wine then go here.

Do not go if you like a powder white beach holiday with clear blue sea. The beach is fine the sea is fine just remember this is a desert country; you won’t get a ‘Caribbean’ style beach.

Don’t take pound coins, the staff are always asking if you can change it for them. It is really easy to change sterling at the hotel desk and they are more than happy to give you coins so that you can use these to tip if you want.

The main restaurant serves a large variety of foods to suit most tastes. One thing they are not big on is fish so fish lovers may be disappointed with the choice. Their meat is excellent.

We tried both the Asian and Mediterranean. It’s worth it as you don’t pay extra and if you are staying more than 7 days it makes a nice change to the main restaurant. The Mediterranean is no different to the main restaurant but we preferred to use this one at lunch time as it was less formal and crowded. Dress code is specified as long trousers for men however, when we visited (Sep 16- 26th) my husband wore dress shorts every night and was never turned away. The majority of male guests wore shorts to the evening meals.

All restaurants are self service for drinks unless you continually tip the waiters. Tipping once will get you one drink but don’t expect a refill.

Praise goes to all the animation team who work their socks off. My husband and I don’t go to be entertained but they were all so enthusiastic it was quite infectious. Special thanks to Mario and his morning aqua aerobics in the pool, helped to keep off the pounds that may’ve appeared after 10 days of all inclusive.

We had a late flight home so I wanted to keep our room for as long as possible on the last day. You do have to wait until the day of checkout but we went to reception at 9am and were able to secure the room until 6pm for a charge of 40 dinars.

We did take a walk out of the hotel one afternoon and had a look at a few shops. One afternoon was plenty, all shops stock masses of designer ‘look alike’ gear and one shop is pretty much the same as another. I would personally now wait for the airport as they had some lovely reasonably priced gifts in there. I would only advise trips with the holiday company.

Stayed at the RIU Marco Polo from the 5/09/12 to 12/09/12, On arrival was very happy with the hotel lobby and staff was given a welcome meeting by the duty manager who explained the operation of the hotel. The room was ready we booked a room over looking pool and beach was very pleased with the room very clean and towels changed everyday, Pool area was very good the biggest pool I have ever seen In a hotel,Pool and pool area very clean. Beach was OK but spoiled by the Camel and horse dug on the beach this did spoil the beach for us.the food was OK but very disappointed as expected more from a Riu hotel. All in all enjoyed the hotel did not enjoy out side the hotel we have traveled far and wide but the locals could be very rude and in your face we have been to Turkey and expected banter with the locals but not bad language and aggression went into a shop with by wife they did not have what we wanted we went to leave and the shopkeeper stood in the door way to stop us leaving and buy something else,I was polite and firm and walked past him but could by very scary for some people. We would not return to Tunisia in the future. PS the Italians are very rude.

Room Tip: 2nd floor over looking pool&beach
