“Lovely. But the odd touch would make it a whole lot better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

Went here recent with my three children. All mixed ages me 30's, sons 21 and 16 daughter 12.
We arrived early hours to the hotel in darkness, a lengthy check in. Given bottled water and led to our rooms. I had requested rooms to be close together and was surprised to be allocated an ajoining rooms.
As it was 5am didnt bother to do anything just hit the hay!!!
In the morn in the light of day i was remarkably surprised with a superb veiw overlooking the pool and sea. Really couldnt of asked for better. Wakin for the nx two weeks to this hmmmm!
The room my daughter and i had was ok. Some slight damage or chips to paint work. But cleaned everyday to a superb standard and fresh flowers on the beds and around the sinks!!! Bathrobes in the bathroom which had excellant light, mirrors. Hot powerful water from shower and taps. Complimentary gels, waters, soaps which i never expected. Also baskets of fresh fruits in both rooms. We had balconys with basic furniture to sit on.
Tv, fridge phone all working fine.
To be honest what i paid for this two week all incl i dont have many gripes. Of course the bad bits are slight but would make a super difference.
The sun loungers are plentyful but old as are the parasoles. Feghti the pool guy works very hard and always ready to help you get comfy. The pool towels are thin but ok to lay on.
The pool is cleaned regular. Activities are offered to join in. Music played and a good choice too. The gardens are well maintained but could have more colour. The hotel has its resident cats which dont bother us as we are animal lovers. But there are ALOT and they know where to go for the goodies!! We gave them names and found many litters with tiny kittens under the bushes. The gardeners are constantly busy. Tidying watering and cutting back plants.
A short min walk to the hotel beach. Plenty of beds. Clean sand warm water. But the guys come selling their fruit n produce which can be annoying. Hotel food was just ok. Probably the only part i felt let down. The dining room is large but seemed short staffed so finding a table cleared was the first hurdle! The food lacked flavour, colour presentation and choice. We are not fussy eaters but compared to other all incl we have had this was poor. But we didnt starve.
In the eve the bar shuts at 12 to most peoples annoyance incl mine. Not even soft drinks tea water even!!! Then wots really annoying the staff start to switch lights off to shoo you to bed!!!
In all was an ok place to stay. We had a good time together which was more important.
I would revisit. These guys all work very hard to look after their hotel and long hours too. I appreciate them taking time to always be happy xxx

this was my second visit to the sol the first was when it was half board, now its all inclusive. i had read the reviews before we went and was quite worried but my worries were not necessary.

The hotel is very dated yes but was clean and the rooms were always tidy and the linen was changed regular,, the towels we threw in the bathroom and was changed every day.we had a sea view room and was really nice to overlook the ocean in an evening. the other members of the party were placed in bungalows which all the bel azur guest were placed but because i had asked for the sea view premier room we were placed in there which was lovely, the shower was powerful but like i said its dated and next year the hotel is up for a major refurb.so dont have high expectations of 5 star because its not.

The food was very nice im the fussiest of eaters and i always found something to eat, only on two evenings did we find the food a bit cold but then there was only a few guest booked in so it was quiet .

the pool was always clean and always sunbeds available the pool man always saved our beds and there was 12 of us , we gave him a few dina and he was wonderful , but guest who didnt tip also got the same treatment.

dont forget you beach towels as they are not included in the package.

the drinks are small and i found this a bit annoying but you can go as many times as you want and with our older kids with us we had our waiters on tap to replemish lol.

the staff were always helpful and always polite could not complain at all.

the beach is loverly and had a loverly day or two down there to top up the tan .there is also a beach bar and if your lucky waiter service, pizzas delicious from there and the pool bar servrd daily till 6 , from 4 the pool bar aslo do crepes mmmmm.

in the reception bar 4-5 you can have coffee and cake and the cocktails are served 5-7 funny hours and not top notch but were okish.

all spirits in the bar were drinkable and the wine was palatable, dont drink a lot myself but members of the group had a tipple and said all was ok.

The western europeans did spoil the holiday a bit as they pushed in the queues at breakfast etc and at dinner piled their plates pile high and wasted a lot of food which was annoying as sometimes some foods ran out especially the desserts because they had just mounds and mounds wasting away on their tables.
so all in all dont let the bad reviews put you off , its a basic hotel plesant
surroundings, avererage accomodation you get what you pay for thing, perfect for a cheap break with the kids if you dont want to go out of the complex.

outside we went to mohammeds cafe up the road for a change near the black and white resteruant perfect and so cheap for a lovely pannini decent coffee milkshake and burger and his chicken sandwich to die for.

taxis to the medina about 3-4 dina dont pay no more ,

all in average , give it a go been to far far worse.

My partner's mother booked this hotel as part of a really cheap AI package for us and our four children. After reading the reviews, I was a little nervous, but needn't have worried. The hotel is absolutely fine. The pool area was nice and the kids stayed in the water most of the day. The beach was also really handy, although the sea a little choppy when we were there in late May.

The food in the restaurant was as nice as I've had in any AI buffet style restaurant - a good mixture of local cuisine, international staples, and stuff for fussy kids. The pancakes at breakfast and paninis and pizzas at lunch were also a hit with the youngsters! The only criticism we could make of the food was that snacks between meals were very limited, and there was no ice cream for the children other than in the formal restaurant - they would be easy things to fix.

Yes, the cleanliness wasn't of the standards you'd get in Spain, where they've been doing package holidays for decades, but I've certainly seen worse, mostly in British B&Bs. And the smoking indoors takes some getting used to, and isn't ideal. As previous reviewers have said, there are a lot of cats, but we didn't witness the hotel staff mistreating them - you just have to be careful not to leave food unattended and so on.

The staff are friendly and do a great job, especially the maitre de piscine, who reserved us beds at the pool every day. The only money we spent all week was to tip the staff at the end for their hard work.

We had a fab time at the Sol Azur, and for the £400 we paid for an all inclusive holiday in peak school holiday time, it would be hard to beat.

Room Tip: We stayed in the bungalows overlooking the beach, which were lovely.

I have just returned from the Sol Azur, what a smashing holiday!!
My husband has walking difficulties and was very worried about the hotel after reading the reviews however, very pleasantly surprised, very courteous staff who couldn't do enough for us, generally clean, room basic but clean, food better than some places I've been too. The swimming pool was spotless as previous reviews have stated and the poolman (sorry I've forgotten his name!) was very proud of making you feel looked after, he knew everyone and where they preferred to sit sun or shade, there was no saving sun beds he made sure everyone was catered for. Evening entertainment was a bit of a let down but after a day of swimming etc and a late meal we were usually ready for bed!!
The hotel was right on the beach, which was sandy with plenty of shade with a beach bar and pizzeria, I'd advise to ask the pool man for a couple of towels to take down to the beach for the sun loungers also take a couple of bottles of water with you from the pool bar as they didn't have any at the beachbar.
Enjoy your holiday, we certainly did !!

We stayed in July 2012 and chose this as it was the cheapest holiday we could find - forthe money we paid it was great!

We were given a key to one of the beach side rooms, which were nice and clean - our key didn't work and it took 2 days to replace it, but the staff were happy to help us get in and out in between.

The food was good - lots of nice local dishes and the pizza bar on the beach was fantastic! The staff were very helpful and friendly and if you were happy to tip, they would do little extras like bring your drinks over and help with beack chairs etc.

What let the holiday down for us was the evening entertainment - the entertainment team really tried their best, but some of the special caberet evenings were a bit much for us and were a bit too cheesy.

There weren't any great places nearby in the eveing which let this place down - the nightclub next door claimed to be open, but we tried on several attempts to find it closed. There were some restuarants but we did not try these.

In terms of value for money it was great!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the bungalows by the beach - they are lovely! Also, take the Sarah 2 day coach...

I was very apprehensive about going after reading reviews about the hotel but, was surprised when we arrived. Travelled with one other friend, both of us 22 years old. If you're travelling in a group, especially if you're young and female you need to stay together and be aware! Constantly during our holiday we were hounded by men e.g. winking at us, trying to get us to buy stuff and at the very start of the holiday we were followed by two men, all of this happening INSIDE the hotel! The hotel itself is fine, a lick of paint would be nice. The room is very clean, maids are very helpful, but the public toilets are vile, they absolutely stink! The lobby is very smoky from being allowed to smoke inside so not good if you don't smoke.
The animation team are lively men who are very pushy, wanting you to do everything, just keep repeating NO! The night time entertainment was very poor, not a lot happening for the young ones. Unless you're on an excursion or brave enough to leave the hotel by yourself then all there really is to do is sunbathe. This may be okay for some people but, if your prefer to be doing stuff then this is not the hotel for you.
Food is good for all-inclusive but, repetitive and some things were very bland. Not sure if it was the food but I had an upset stomach while there. The choice of drinks was good but they did run out of Diet Coke half way through our stay. All staff were polite and friendly, you do get a couple of men who don't work for the hotel who will try to get you to pay to ride a camel and donkey, but I wouldn't recommend you do this as it can be done at the zoo, if you go on an excursion.
Excursions were good value for me, we paid £60 to go to Carthage, Sidi Bousaid, the zoo, pirate ship and a little village but have forgot the name. The one that really stood out was the pirate ship. Good entertainment, the men were a bit scary but it was all part of the experience. This was probably the only time we had a proper meal as they feed you a meal and you get to jump off the side of the ship.
Overall I would not recommend this hotel or the area, Hammamet is very run down. Prepare to be stopped and hounded constantly, everyone expects to be tipped all the time. Be aware as soon as you walk out of the hotel the porters will grab your suitcase from you and then ask for a tip after, just grab it back off them!

Room Tip: pool view rooms are very loud at night because of the music.

Stayed at the Sol Azur, perfect place, why the bad comments?, maybe not 4 star but 3+, excellent value for money, maybe the lounge area slightly dated but very comfortable. Large bedroom, clean linen and good maid service. The food was very good and varied, chicken, lamb, beef, rabbit fish, liver, you do not expect pork chops or sausage in a Muslim country, respect their religion whilst enjoying their hospitality. My wife and I have visited several North African countries and stayed at hotels from 2 star to 5 star, and this equals most for food and service.
The pool is the cleanest we have used, constantly being looked after by the pool man. We had a sea and pool view at no extra cost, quite a few cats, but do not steal food from tables as suggested, they are quite timid. Good location, we are senior citizens and walked into Hammamet (1.25 miles) several times, no problem, taxied back, about 3 dinars (£1.30).
All in all one of the best hotels we have used, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Hammamet

Room Tip: Ask for left hand side of hotel, get pool and sea view.
