“If you want to relax this is ideal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2011

We stayed for a week at the Villamar, Bed and Breakfast and requested to have a room over looking the pool. We ended up with a 2 story apartment, that was superb.

It was very relaxed with a few families around the pool but perfect place to relax. The beach was a short 3-4 minute walk away where you have your own section with a small bar for food and some drinks. The main town - Hammermet - and the marina - New Hammermet were a £2.50 - 5 dinar taxi ride away.

The was en-suite and very spacious over looking the pool, with a large kitchen and lounge. The kitchen had very basic utensils, so if you were self-catering it may be a prob. But eating out is very cheap so its not a worry. Staff at the hotel were excellent, and if you tip then you will get a good service. Its not a 5-star hotel, but has the benefits of not being one with a more relaxed and personable vibe.

Hammermet is quite a small town, but there is plenty of restaurants and is more traditional, a good vibe. Hammermet Jasmine (marina/new hammermet) is a bit mroe modern, but again a lot of restaurants in the Medina.

We visited Tunis and Carthage, which are worth visiting and went to the lightshow/Tunisan history evening event which is also recommended.

All in all if you want a relaxing time then this was perfect - and very hot in August getting upto 38 but its barable, just hard to get a good tan! But would recommend to anyone and we had a very good time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool

Villamar is the most perfect place to stay; villa's or apartments surrounding beautiful pool, set in splendid gardens. Self catering, but breakfast included, also has fantastic resturant with a wonderful chef!! This is now my second home, we love it there so much that we have been back 6 times in 12 months & have 2 more visits planned in next 3 months, we cant stay away. It's the most peaceful idyllic setting for those that enjoy their privacy. Enjoy your stay.....the staff will accomodate your every need. EXCELLENT!!!!!

Room Tip: Villa by pool :)

This holiday was sold as a five star rating for myself and family, I would call it a 2 star hotel with a pounding disco across the road. We went autumn half term and all the bedding was dirty, the blankets smelled of damp and the the walk to the beach was about 300 yards and is not attached to the hotel(ie you cant walk from the hotel onto the beach directly)We only stayed the one night before booking elsewhere.

We were pleasantly surprised when being greeted by the reception staff with smiles and two glasses of fresh orange juice - just the thing after a long trip. We were showed to a spacious, clean room with a comfy sofa and a small, private terrace. For the price we booked online, we were surprised by the quality of the room. We were booked into one of the double rooms in the main building. There was a nice, if small pool in the courtyard among nicely decorated buildings.

On the downside, if you want a restful night sleep in a quiet room, this might not be the place for you. We visited in August and the nightclub outside was going from midnight - 4AM and was very audible from the main building. The "hot tub" in the courtyard was more a small pool with stale, lukewarm water.

If you can put up with the noise and want a room at a value price, this just might be for you.
