Overall we were very unhappy with the hotel. We recently stayed for 5 days and would not go back, ever.

The beach and pool area are the only good points, to be honest they are excellent. However the service and rudeness from the staff ruined any good points of our stay. The food is terrible, that is of course if you are lucky enough to get served! We waited 1.5 hrs one lunchtime in the beach cafe, which would have been longer if we hadn't got up and walked out. We were also told that the chef "didn't know how to make a Tuna Nicoise Salad" despite it being on the menu and seeing other people around us being served it.

Our first night we were put in a room with a broken bed and broken air conditioning, we couldn't open the balcony door because directly outside was a very noisy large boiler. Needless to say we had a very uncomfortable first night. The next morning we complained to reception who said that they already know that the room had these problems!!!! Why they thought it was acceptable to put paying guests there I don't know. After seeing two more rooms (one of which was of a similar poor standard) we moved rooms.

The problem is the staff are completely indifferent, they honestly don't care about the guests. It claims to be a 4 star hotel. It is not.

To be fair, the price of the hotel is very cheap compared to other ones in the area, this is reflected in the poor service and hygiene.

My boyfriend has Tunisian family in the area, and through them we learnt that staff from the surrounding hotels are permitted to use the facilities at Sol Phebus which meant the pool was ridiculously over crowded with non-guests. Also we learnt that the hotel has very few members of staff, hence the poor, slow service. Also, the during the day the hotel is used as a stop for daily coach parties this meant that the facilities were stretched. One morning we couldn't even get on the beach for people. In our five night stay, two weddings took place poolside at night. Tunisian weddings are very lovely BUT also very very noisy therefore anyone with a pool/sea view would have been kept awake until the early hours of the morning as they take place at night.

Food and drink is over priced, locally you can by a large bottle of water for 14p, but in the hotel a small bottle one is £2.50!!!

I could go on and on about how bad the hotel is. We complained numerous times but were not taken seriously and were not compensated at all. Please don't waste your money on this hotel. Whoever owns this is already making a lot of money for themselves.

I booked the Sol Phebus through the Sol Melia group website for a long weekend breakaway, thinking the standard of this hotel would be consistent with other hotels in the group. Not so!

The hotel seemingly caters primarily for package tourists, and certainly does not meet an international 4 star standard. The building itself is impressive, but it is furnished and decorated cheaply, and is obviously run on a tight budget!

The rooms are of a reasonable size, with ageing furnishings (our curtains were somewhat threadbare, with missing hooks). There are no tissues in the bathrooms. We asked for towels at the pool and were told there were none available until the next day.

The buffet dinner was disappointing. On the first evening, there was a selection of salads, with a chicken casserole, and a dish of sausages in a tomato sauce. For dessert there was sliced melon and a bowl of custard, and a selection of Tunisian biscuits. At breakfast, there was an adequate selection.

The staff were friendly and efficient.

The hotel has a very nice swimming pool and access to the beach, where there is a bar and sun loungers.

It was overall somewhat disappointing, and more reminiscent of a summer camp rather than a superior hotel!
