“Unpersonal big hotel but with friendly staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013 via mobile

It is a huge lobby with a corner with coffee and music. It is still not cosy. For a conference and business i is fine.very large room, large pool and very good breakfast. The beach was not clean and can be accessed with some effort. The personnel was very friendly and enjoyed serving guests

I was on a business trip and stayed in June for 4 nights.

Though it was high season, there seem to be few guests.

In chronological order :
1. The check-in was smooth but with no greetings or a word was spoken. As if the receptionists are being cajoled to work.
2. The room had old furniture, which needs immediate replacement. Ditto for Bathroom fittings. The door had to be banged to close..
3. The carpet was full of hairs. I told house keeping staff personally..............but no action !
4. The breakfast was 'exactly same' on all four days.
5. The dinner in restaurant .........can hardly be appreciated.
6. Check out was again smooth but with no eye contact or greeting.

@ 250 Tunisian Dinar per day, it was expensive. One has better options in neighborhood.

First things first: Though it seems to be locally rated as a 5-star hotel, you better keep your expectation to the lowest level. It wouldn't get more than 3 stars in any European country. But then, who knows what kind of service other hotels in that area may offer. Rooms are actually quite worn out. The terrace door jammed and allowed only for a slim gap. Though some staff were overly friendly, others didn't seem too enthusiastic about their jobs.

Keep in mind that taxi to and from the airport shouldn't cost more than 20 Dinar. That's a lot for local standards, even though the driver might be tempted to overcharge you.

This hotel was booked for me by the company I was visiting, previously I have always stayed closer to Tunis and having read earlier reviews of this hotel will adit to being a bit apprehensive before my arrival. However things were no where near as described by some people.

Yes, some things are looking like they are due for renewal, but on the whole this hotel compares very well to many I have stayed in in other North African countries.

The area where the hotel is situated is rather quiet and consequently if you want to go out you'd need to take a taxi.

My company was organizing a conference that was taking place at this hotel, so, as conference staff, we had to stay here. After reading some of the other reviews, I was prepared for the worst, however I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel has definitely seen better days (carpet in room was a little worn, the décor was dated, and the furniture was old), but the rooms were clean, the service was friendly, and the food at the restaurants was decent. The check-in process was painless, as was the check-out. It was also apparent that the hotel had been doing some renovation prior to our conference starting. Many of the rooms had wireless, though Internet connectivity was intermittent.

Based on the complaints regarding billing, I settled my account the night before I checked out, and my bill was accurate.

I was advised to book into this hotel by the company I was visiting, as it is close to them. I booked, then read some of the reviews below and was very concerned about what I was going to! My general experience of the hotel was good - excellent, comfortable, clean, large room well up to European standards, very nice bathroom. All the facilities in the room worked well. The food in the hotel was up to the standards I expect for hotel food - i.e. not up to good restaurant standards, but good nevertheless. I paid 25% of what I would pay for a similar hotel in Europe for the room, so I consider that very good value! I found service always to be to a high standard and did not have any issues at all when leaving the hotel. Maybe my experience was positive because the staff knew I was with a local company, but I certainly did not see queues of irate customers when I was leaving, which I would maybe have expected having read some of the reviews!

Room Tip: WiFi was advised as only available in reception but I was able to get WiFi access in my room as it w...

We are very disappointed with this hotel magnificent architecture.
We decided to spend a few days in this hotel after much stress of everyday life.
Hotel is very well known because it was belong to ex-president Ben Ali.
We heard a lot about this hotel and we booked the blow half board.
Hence the abject poverty dinner we ever seen so far.
For example, your 6 trays of salads: the first consists cucumber and tomatoes with small pieces, 2nd: cucumber and slice large tomatoes, 3rd: large slices of cucumber and tomatoes early on ..... it makes me laugh at the time but in the end it was not the case!! it is not worth mentioning meal .....
We really regretted booked this hotel ....
Knowing that the hotel was expensive enough!!!
