Radisson Blu Ulysse Resort & Thalasso Djerba
Ranked #36 of 104 Hotels in Djerba Island
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Very nice hotel, located only few minutes drive from the main city of the island. The hotel has been renovated recently and offers an excellent product. The reception team is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and very confortable. The breakfast buffet at the main restaurant is very rich and the service also is very good. Neptune restaurant located on the beach side has a nice snack menu and the food is very tasty. The beach is very clean and offer an excellent relaxation atmosphere. The pool is nice and well maintained. They have also a great kid's club where childrens can be kept for some time under the control of a kind professional lady. Last but not least, the SPA is very good, offering a wide rane of treatments and the team is very well knowledgeable.
A very good hotel for families to spend relaxing holidays in the beautiful Island of Djerba!

Room Tip: Try the Prestige room category: spacious and the bathroom is big!

Good:
- Sea view room. Overall nice facility.

Bad:
- Service: Reception staff not friendly, only tend to finish their routine job.
- Breakfast: No coffee or tea service during breakfast. No one will clean your table with used plates.

So-so:
- Swimming pool. crowded and not attractive.

It is a mammon resort geared to group tourists, and designed back to the 80's resort booming age. The zone touristique in Djerba is the French version of zona hotelera in Cancun. Lacking of personal touch and care is always the major disappointment in such resorts.

The hotel has some good facilities and we received very good service from the room staff and by the pool.

However we felt the reception staff were a little hostile and not helpful. They appeared to be annoyed that we were asking questions in English, when we tried some french they were a little more friendly. But not by much.

If you have trouble booking a taxi there are many taxis which drive near and outside the hotel e.g. for going out at dinner time. It costs 15 dinars to get to the airport and 5 dinars to Houmt Souk.

Exchange money at check in as they expect a tip when you go to your room.

The gym is very basic and old (not 5 star), make sure the door is shut to ensure the aircon works. Otherwise the room can get very hot.

In terms of food, I agree with many of the comments made so far. It is very expensive, we ended up going to Dar Ali hotel just opposite the hotel for a basic meal (opens at 7) but alot cheaper. Also La lagune or Les Palmiers in Midoun.

For lunch I would suggest going to Houmt Souk (only 6 dinars one way).

There is a small shop opposite the hotel where we bought bottles of water and snacks.

The hotel is ok, nice and clean.

I was totally disappointed with dinner (there is fish, meat ect, but they just can't cook)

Also there are no nearby reastaraunts where we could go by foot instead of eating in the hotel.

The Neptune restaraunt is the only possible tigon where one can eat during the day.

It is very expensive and the food is average.

Also the wifi does not work really well.

Also I was disappointed by the quality of massage.

It is not as big as the Radisson Blue, which is good. We stayed in the sea view room on the top floor (room 411) and it was big enough with a little "sofa" corner and a little balcony with nice views. The bed is comfortable and huge and the sheets smooth cotton unlike in Radisson Blue. I had specifically asked for a quiet room on the top floor and with early morning check in and all this was ready when we arrived at 9 am (quite surprising in Tunisia)! The building and rooms are well maintained and do not smell of mold like at Radisson Blue. The bathroom is not too big but it is functional and clean. The breakfast buffet is not as varied as in Radisson Blue, but everything tastes good. We did not eat at the hotel's restaurants but did order room service once and the cesar salad and cheese burger were very good. English skills of the staff are maybe not as good as in the Radisson Blue, but they manage. Service is more genuine, so when it is friendly (which is not common in Tunisia), at least it is genuinely friendly. The service was not bad, although somewhat detached. Do not necessarily expect to be offered tea or coffee at the breakfast service, but go get it yourself.

I definitely preferred this Park Inn by Radisson over the Radisson Blue because of quietness, cleanliness, and price, and even if it is also not 5 stars (only the Mövenpicks and maybe Russelior in Hammamet could even dream of becoming such in Tunisia), it is a comfortable 4 star hotel and the about 140 euro price per room per night in the high season is much better justified than the higher price at the next door Radisson Blue. I would return and can recommend.

Room Tip: top floor sea view room, room 411 was very good
