“Terrific river views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

We were concerned about our trip with the fair number of negative reviews. We experienced none of the problems noted in the other reviews, so there may be a difference in room quality. We were in two rooms directly on the river, and the rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and recently updated. Each room has a balcony overlooking the river, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better view in Alexandria Bay. The pool was clean and had plenty of chaises, but the hot tub is no longer functioning (which is not much of an issue when it's mid-80's). We ate at the casual restaurant on the water, and the service and food were great. It's just a very short drive into town, where there a lots of other restaurant choices. Overall, we were very pleased with the Edgewood.

I stayed at the Edgewood Resort for a wedding. It is more of an up-scale motel than a fancy resort. My main compliment is that the rooms were very clean. This is why I gave it four stars. The room and bathroom are simple, clean, large and comfortable. The food is very good. I also gave the resort four stars because I was impressed with the food. The owner was very nice and accommodating. After each meal, she would come over to our table to see how the food was and if there was anything more she could do for us. Very nice. The lobby is very pretty with a very nice gift shop. My biggest complaint (if you want to call it that) is that there is no gym facility. But it is located right on the St. Lawrence sea way so the views are magnificent and there is plenty to do there. There is an outdoor pool and a small playground for kids.

Room Tip: Ask for a waterview room.

We were here with a group and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Love the porch overlooking the St. Lawrence River with beautiful views, including Boldt Castle. The grounds are gorgeous with nice walking trails. The restaurant provided buffet dinner on our first night (excellent) and buffet breakfast each morning (also excellent). The staff was very attentive and very nice. We were there for 3 days and two nights.

My Fiancé and I drove three hours to Alexandria Bay to see the Boldt Castle (which we loved) to see if we wanted to have our wedding ceremony there. We decided since we loved the castle to look around for a venue to have our reception. We stopped into the Edgewood and asked of we could talk to the wedding coordinator. The girl at the front desk was very nice and told us that Janine Ridley was busy for the day but, she would take us around to look at the rooms. We really liked the way everything looked and considered having our reception there. That is until we ran into Janine. My fiancé said he didn't think she was available to talk to her because she was busy and her response was "well I'm not just standing here doing nothing" she was extremely rude and completely turned us off. She then told us we might want to consider having our reception somewhere else like the TI club. Apparently she didn't want our business. I will never return.

I wouldn't call this a resort. We went a bit before season so there was no where to eat on the premises and it was a drive from the actual downtown area. We had a beautiful room in the corner overlooking the bay, but could definitely hear our neighbors in the mornings. It's not the newest place, but it was a nice getaway. Not as loud as some of the other resorts in A Bay, but nice for those on a budget (like us!)

First of all the picture they show on tripadvisor is not there place, it is someplace else. The rooms are very outdated. The location is far away form the town, but it does have a nice view, with a nice looking pool.

Room Tip: I am not sure but not this one.

We paid for our stay up front, as we were confident this was a "nice place", having just come from another location (which turned out to be more of a fishing camp, than the "cozy cottage" we had planned to spend our anniversary trip in). The desk clerk told us to "just dial zero if you need anything"...kind of hard to do when the phones don't work. We were told the room came with internet, it didn't. The room had the "kitchenette" as promised...except there was only a single chair (besides the bed) & no table...making the kitchenette pretty much pointless. I tried calling the front desk from my cellphone to get another chair & to inquire about the wify...was told they were having trouble with the wify & she couldn't tell me when it would be resolved. She also told me they'd send up another chair asap. Well, needless to say, no chair was sent. We went for a swim (in the 3-4ft. deep inground pool), that looked very neglected...which I believe is the reason I went home from our trip with pink eye.

The absolute worst part of our stay was our dealing with the owner...a condescending, and overall horrible woman, whose immediate response to our concerns was to say "if you don't like it here, you can check out, there are plenty of other places to stay". She was immediately defensive, and her people skills are the worst...along with her nasty little barking & jumping dogs that apparently accompany her everywhere on the property. I was so caught off guard & blown away by her total disregard for the satisfaction of her customers that we ended up just going back to our room. First thing in the morning, we were awoken by her voice talking/yelling to one of her employees across the parking lot just outside our window. This woman clearly has NO regard for others, and NO proper business sense whatsoever. We were planning not only to return to Alex Bay, but to also make a recommendation to family members that are planning to vacation in ABay...so she has lost more business than she is even aware of, not that I think she gives a damn in the least.

Given the choice of staying at a "dump" where the people treated us with respect, courtesy & honestly tried to resolve any negative issues, and this so-called "nice place" (hardly a resort!), where we were deceived, neglected & treated very rudely by the owner herself...I'd take the "dump" in a minute. And will let as many people know as possible NOT to stay at the Edgewood.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!
