“Enjoyable Stay”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

My husband and I stayed here in June and enjoyed the great view of the harbor and the location is good. The people were friendly and you are within walking distance to most everything. The hotel is rustic and clean. We would recommend this hotel.

Main channel rooms were all booked for 4th of July, so we took a lower harbor room and were extremely pleased. Balcony overlooking the harbor had a lovely view. AC worked very well in the high humidity. Nice and clean. We didn't touch the car for two days! Just walked to boats and restaurants.

Room Tip: The courtyard doen't look like much. You have to walk through the rooms to get the view.

We found the hotel to be very clean, the staff was exceedingly helpful, and the views were just amazing. It was a most enjoyable experienc on our vacation. The booking process and check-in was quick and easy. The location of the hotel was convenient to everthing we needed.

Room Tip: We had a corner room it was just perfect, we would recomend it to any one.

Stayed in June, rooms were big enough, but a little dark. Nice balcony overlooking the Seaway. Not a fancy property but clean and well kept with some nice views of the water and boat traffic.
As a comparison, rooms are similar to those you would find in economy ski resorts. Overall though it was acceptable for an overnight visit. Staff were friendly. Great view of Boldt Castle. Look into the hotel package deal for Meals & Sight-Seeing it was a pretty good offer,we took it and did not regret it.

Room Tip: Choose an upper level room for nice view (only 2 floors)

If you want to stay in the heart of Alexandria Bay, this is the place. The rooms are clean and have beautiful views. We were able to walk to all the charming little shops, restaurants, and galleries. Also, Uncle Sam Boat Tours is right next door; very convenient!
There were, however, a few negatives. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite. This let our kids stay in the very large main room, while my husband and I had the small bedroom to ourselves. This set-up seemed ideal at first, but in the middle of the night, we realized that the air conditioning was keeping the big main room at a nice, cool temperature, but wasn't quite making it all the way to our bedroom. We were quite warm in there! It wouldn't have been a big deal if we'd brought a fan, but we hadn't thought of that.
Also, though it is quite clean, everything seems a bit worn, especially the kitchenette area and bathroom. There were black stains on the floor of the tub, most likely from non-slip strips that had once been there. The bathroom window didn't open, and the bathroom had no fan, making for a very, very hot and muggy post-shower room. The kitchenette featured an under-the-counter mini-fridge, which was pretty big for a mini-fridge, but the motor of the fridge heated up the counter above it to the point where we couldn't keep anything on the counter. The chocolate bars that we had brought to snack on actually melted in the brief time they sat in a bag on the counter.
The rooms at this hotel are non-smoking, which is great! Multiple members of our family have asthma, so non-smoking rooms are important to us. However, people seemed to be smoking all over the place outside. At one point, my husband was walking down the outdoor staircase with two of our sons while I remained at the top of the stairs with our youngest son while he tied his shoe. I could hear one of our boys say to my husband (as they got to the bottom of the stairs) "what's that smell?" My husband explained that it was cigarette smoke and agreed that it didn't smell very good. They proceeded across the parking lot. As I got to the bottom of the stairs with our young son, I could hear one smoker say to the other, "well, he smells like sh**. Good thing the smell of my cigarette smoke covered up his stink." I don't know if she was referring to my son or my husband, but in either case, it was uncalled for. I realize that this is not the fault of the hotel, but if this is typical language and behavior of their clientele, we will stay somewhere else next time.

My family and i return to this each summer for a reason. The rooms are always clean, contrary to what some of the negative reviews stated, and the views from our rooms are magnificent. We stay in loe=wer level rooms facing the shipping channel and it's amazing watching the giant freighters go by Boldt Castle, which is so close you feel like you can reach out and touch it. Each room has it's own deck balcony to enjoy the views from too.Everything to do in A. Bay is within walking distance from the hotel. I love this place!!

Room Tip: Choose a lower level room on the shipping channel side. The sound of the waves against the shore and...

We return to this hotel every year for the excitement of being so close to the water. We can watch the ships pass by on the St. Lawrence River and our room had a gorgeous view of Boldt Castle. The office staff is exceptionally warm and helpful. They offer ship schedules, information about the town and the boat cruises. They also offer great packages for those who want it all put together. Our room was spotless and attended to everyday. The towels were fluffy and soft and I like how tight the bed sheets fit. My only wish would be to have the room chairs a little more comfortable and higher up the back. But we managed very well. Being directly on the river means lots of small insects but the porch was swept daily and all the windowsills cleaned daily. The restaurant connected with the resort served good quality meals and their Sunday night pot roast dinner is the best!! Be sure to ask for a main channel or upper harbor room as the view is much better. We have some handicapping disabilities and they bent over backwards to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We enjoy this resort so much that this year we brought along friends who also stayed and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The room fridges are a great convenience. If something is amiss, just asking will bring a quick response. Our end room was next to the steps to the second floor, so you can hear footsteps at times but it did not detract from our stay. I would say the Thomsons work hard to maintain a well kept and well run facility. Hats off to you and the staff..

Room Tip: We love the corner room -- large, bright and has excellent visibility for many miles.
