Arrived on 6/28/12 expecting most renevation to be completed and to our surprise they were not. When we discussed our disappointment to the new owners, they could not try to compensate us and make our stay a wonderful experience. Bonnie castle resort is a wonderful place situation in a beautiful location. Easy walk to shops & restaurants, but they do have a great Bar & restaaurant on site also! Our stay was great and we plan to travel back again to see how the renovations are doing! Thanks to owners Cindy & Bob for making our vaction pleasurable!

Bonnie Castle is currently under new ownership and a complete renovation is underway. We had traveled a great distance with 4 other couples and were disappointed that some amenities like the pool and spa were unavailable, however we made the best of a beautiful location. The marinas, castles, riverboat rides, and views were breathtaking. The location is ideal. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. We are making plans for next year to see the progress Bonnie Castle has made.

We were told by Lisa, the reservationist, what to expect upon arrival. That renovations and construction were presently underway and would be for some time. So, we were not disappointed or surprised once we arrived to see craftsmen working about the property. What a beautiful place Bonnie Castle Resort must once have been. Right on the river with wonderful views as seen from patios, restaurant, walkways, bar, etc. Only to be neglected by the former owner(s) for many years. We spoke with one of the new owners and their plans to update and restore the property. Presently, new exterior balcony doors, picture windows and AC have all been replaced in each of the rooms. New siding was being installed during our stay with new shingled roofs completely installed on many of the buildings. New twin beds and TVs were also being replaced during our stay, but we did not have the good fortune of having one as the new beds arrived after we had. A gorgeous new bar area is presently being renovated, which is located right along the boat pier/landing. Both pools, one inside and one outside, are being replaced in there entirety with the outside pool scheduled for completion by the end of the month, June 2012. We did not eat at the restaurant, it was not opened, but did manage to walk through the restaurant out onto the patio. It was beautiful.
We thought the location of the resort was close by all that we wanted to see.
The staff was excellent and straight forward.
We thought the price fair for our experiences and expectations.
Bonnie Castle Resort has enormous potential and hope that the present owners are able to restore it to its former self. They are off to great start in our opinion.

What a wonderful and delightful site when we arrive on Holland ST to find the entrance had been resurfaced.
Rounding the corner of the property Is a new look on the Inn Building and the Main House (Banquit Facilitys).
Clean and fresh, Checking is as always is a delightful experience, our room was very delightful clean a fresh.
Inspecting the room we found new Air heating units, new windows, and large LCD TV, the Wet Bar has been removed and a very functional Dry bar (very Nice).
We walked around the Property and found out that, the new owners are on site and very attentive to the work being preformed, all the workers were friendly and concerned for our stay at “BONNIE CASTLE RESORT INN” ( they reminded me of bees in a hive).
The new owners have captured the essence of Bonnie Castle that was once was, retaining the core of the old operation and expending it with wise and thought out solutions.
The help with the food selections for our party night and the preparations for all the rooms that we used, ( we used all the facility) all set up for us and ready for us to use.
All the meals we very professionally prepared and skillful presented and each meal.
You need to experience this newly and revived Facility, Bonnie Castle Inn and Banquet faculty
Thank you.

Just returned from a lovely weekend getaway at the Bonnie Castle Resort. Was it outdated, dingy and past-its-prime, as so many other reviews have insisted? In a word, yes. Sadly, what must have once been a majestic resort has been allowed to fall into some disrepair by its neglectful former owners. The room was somewhat dirty, the hallways smelled a bit, and the beds are past their best-before dates. It is NOT the hellhole some reviewers have described, but it definitely needs a facelift.

And there is hope!

The good news is that the Bonnie Castle has recently been purchased by new owners, and things seem to be turning around. They have outlined a two-year plan of renovations (a fact sheet was available in our room), based on the input and outright criticisms the place has received.

When we arrived, we saw workers carrying boxes of flat-screen TVs into the hotel (they hadn't yet reached our room, though, so we were stuck with a hilariously old Zenith TV that barely worked, and an even smaller one mounted in the bathroom). HOWEVER, our room did have a brand-spanking-new air conditioner unit, which was lovely. During our stay, both pools (indoor and outdoor) were under renovation, so they'll likely turn out quite nicely. Plenty of other renovations are planned over the next two years, so things are looking up for the Bonnie Castle.

Even pre-renovations, there are plenty of things to like about the Bonnie Castle. The location is amazing -- right on the river, with stunning views of the Boldt Castle and no shortage of places to watch the sunset. The staff were friendly and attentive, always ready to refill our drinks and make chit-chat. The food was decent — not five-star gourmet, but we happily cleaned our plates. The dining room has floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning views of the water.
A caveat: we stayed in the original "manor" part of the hotel, not the adjacent motel, so we can't speak to its quality.

Despite the lackluster parts of the hotel, we loved our time there, largely because we were there for the Grand International Ragtime Jasstime Festival — an annual weekend of music at the hotel. It was a blast. If you like traditional ragtime/dixieland jazz (and if you don't, you should), you will love this festival. It'll be happening again next spring, and it alone is a great reason to stay at the Bonnie Castle. Check it out: http://alexbayjazz.wordpress.com/

To summarize: Yes, this hotel has seen better days. But with the new ownership, it's showing signs of returning to its former glory. Here's hoping! The place has amazing potential -- it just needs a little TLC. The improvements are happening already, and by the summer of 2013, it should be rejuvenated. And if you love good music, be sure to check out the jazz festival in Spring 2013.

Room Tip: Spend a bit more and get a room with a balcony overlooking the river. It's stunning.
