We visited several years ago and stayed on the edge of the St. Lawrence Seaway. From our balcony, we watched the huge barges going up and down the river. The town itself is a very typical tourist area, with gift shops, t-shirts, etc. and a few very nice restaurants. Out of town proved to be even more attractive. For example, the massive Boldt Castle boat trip should be a "must" for travelers. For "Helpless Romantics" the story of why and how the castle was built will touch your heart. There are also several small but fine wineries on the shore of the St. Lawrence which offer tastings and tours and nice shops. Within a day's drive east, one can visit the Eisenhower Locks and observe the boats and barges passing through the locks. Driving to the west takes you to Lake Ontario and several inland lighthouses...well worth the drive. Overall, an interesting, historic and relaxing area.
